Finally! Nobody ever talks about this game when talking about COD. I grew up playing this game on the PS2 and it was my first cod game. I played it for the first time again recently on PS2 and it's rough. Very rough. It's got a great atmosphere, but the gameplay is extremely dated. Aiming feels like scrolling a mouse attached to a large rock and the enemies have the most obvious aimbot in any COD game. If an enemy is shooting from behind a corner, they won't adjust their aim, they just shoot you without adjusting their aim. The tank gameplay and levels are superb. Some parts of the game (Like the sewer level) are so dark you can't even see anything. The soundtrack is a gem. I still listen to the tracks to this day. Truly an underrated gem in a field of gems.

The desert rats stuff is also just a lot of fun. The 761st getting some representation in video was also on of the coolest things this franchise ever did. The battle of Remagen is also amazing. The little details were always neat though. Like seeing that Tanya did survive the building getting shot by the tank or in the 2nd Russian tank mission when the enemies are on top of your friendly tank, if you use your machine gun they thank you and regroup to help with the rest of the mission where if you shoot with the main gun or ignore it then they die. I honestly think the starter mission in this game was better than the starter mission for the Russian campaign in the original game. Climbing up that hill felt far more intense and once you reached the other side of that tunnel and saw the orange engulfed atmosphere it felt like you'd stepped into hell - the music was also incredibly intense and atmospheric and sat well with the vibe of the game. I remember the music in some of the other missions actually being extremely unsettling, like in the sewer segment, it was almost like music from a horror film. All CoD games have a brilliant score, but this one was very memorable for me.
I'd also like to give this game a big shout out for being the first CoD to have a female playable character in it and so early in the series. The inclusion was very historically accurate too, as many of the service women in the Russian army (in Stalingrad in particular) were some of the best snipers during the war, with one even being dubbed the Lady Of Death. Other neat additions would be the tank graffiti on the T34's, which were often painted by tank crews with messages for their foes and the Russian tank crews wearing leather jackets instead of regular infantry outfits. This game had a lot of little inclusions that many games nowadays would neglect, another one I just noticed was what looked to be a Libyan soldier among the British in the North African missions - very good attention to detail.
One day I'll come back to this game once I've gotten a better PC set up, or if I get a PS2 again. This was a bitch to play as a kid and I never actually completed it, I had to use cheats to see what the rest of the campaign was like 😂 I'll finish the job one day though.

Nope, he said "It was the first time our government had authorized an assassination since the second world war." I hate to burst people's bubbles but it is simply impossible for WW2 Price to be the same character as the MW Price. If that were the case, Price would've been a fossil by MW3. The possibility of them being related may be possible but it has never been confirmed by the devs so there's no definitive answer to that.

@13:19 The DP28 MG used what's known as a pan magazine that feeds the bullets into the machinegun through the top of the chamber. it kinda works similar to what you'd see on a Lewis gun, the pan actually rotates on there as it feeds the rounds through. But just like with drum magazines on SMGs such as the Thompson, once you use up all the bullets in them they're a pain to refill with more bullets and likely took up alot more space on a soldier's equipment belt than stick mags. A similar complaint was voiced about using Drum magazines on the Thompson instead of 20-30 round sized stick mags.

Oh the irony for me is that The Finest Hour was going to be my first COD on the XBOX. Two different copies kept glitching the same spot. I took it back to the game store who blamed my XBOX. I wound up going to Target and discovering The Big Red One which will always be special to me.

The animations in this game are incredible. Depending on where you hit an enemy, they will play a death animation focusing on that area. If you hit them in the right leg, they may hold their right leg and then fall over. Their right hand, they'll hold it in pain before collapsing. What they're doing when you shoot them is also taken into account. So if they're running and you shoot them in the right leg, the leg buckles and they trip and fall over.
