Yeah Javi!! So awesome Noel!! Javier is full of knowledge and XTR is amazing tech! Awesome that someone finally did a video with insight straight from the source!
Great vlog, can't wait to the review, Just broke my knee during Surfing, surgery, open Fracture tore my tendum bla bla, so looking forward for your reviews.
Mark Yoshida The XTR is a closed cell foam and the EPS is open cell. XTR will not absorb water if you get a ding and EPS will soak it up. XTR is stronger and will last longer. Both are more durable than PU.
Brilliant Insight into XTR and their Build Process and their ability to customise for the individual, I wish Fire Wire had the Insight to customise and Co - Lab with World Class Shapers the way that XTR and Hydroflex have.
Beach Shak Glad you like the show. I think Firewire collaborates with great shapers I just wish we could do more custom stuff. Maybe one day they will....
Great insight into the tech and brains of Javier at XTR - just picked up my custom XTR Hydronaut from them last week. After you experience the Tomo quad channel inside a channel maybe you can check out the hydronaut as well. Keep up the solid work!
Mate, no stress! Your reviews are the most anticipated on youtube........because they're that good and informative. I'm going for a simple 2 board quiver from Firewire as I appreciate their tough, modern construction. I have a Go Fish, now thinking an SKX, Stubby Bastard, or Gamma as a short board. On the verge of an SKX to be honest. I'd do an XTR construction, as that is crazy! But, it's hard for me to arrange that in Aus. No matter.....your reviews shine on this channel. I hope it's working for you!
Glen Goodwin Cheers for the kind words on our show. Your two board quiver sounds epic. Out of the boards you mentioned the SKX would be my second board for sure. Our show from our perspective is going good from the response of our viewers and we are stoked that our show is helping many surfers. On the side of monetizing it... that’s a whole different story. Hopefully we can figure that out SOON. What keeps us pumped to do this is having fun.... and all the positive feedback from our community. Cheers!!!!
Thanks again Noel for your responses. I'm going to grab the SKX tomorrow. I'm looking for some help on the dimensions if possible? My Go-Fish works great for me at 5'5 29.3L (I'm 5'11, 168-170lbs). I'm tossing up between the 5'10 at 28.7L and the 5'11 at 30.2L. I understand there's talk on the web about going slightly bigger with the SKX, but I wonder, as it will be for better waves (nothing much over 6ft) than the Go Fish, and it's an HP board and not a fish, should I go the 5'10? What are your thoughts?
Javier rules. XTR was the first to use most of the new carbon & stringerless concepts . The XTR foam which is XPS like Closed cell and will handle water from dings (good luck dinging em) Great flex , they have almost too much float . So order a tad smaller dims.
It would've been nicer if you added in little video clip of walking into the shop from outside. I've always wanted XTRs and this video explains it better than anything else out there. I like your recent video styles.
While we are at it. Is it possible for you to upload some videos regarding basic surf tips? I know there are tons like that already on RUclips, but I really do want to hear from you on how you go about doing basic maneuvers. We see you surf almost daily and some of us kooks down at Middles wants in on the secret.
Great Vlog, so informative. I can't wait to see the difference between the XTR and Firewire LFT techs. I currently have a Sci Fi thats my fav board but starting to de-lam on the deck so looking at maybe getting one in XTR.
After about 8 months, which is good as far boards go. Not sure how it happened but first I got a little blister, then 2, now there is 3 and all getting bigger. Apparently its a common problem with them but I am not complaining as the board is 14 months old and still in one piece.
Oh yea, be very careful sanding. If you get a hot spot the foam will shrink and melt. Please don’t ask me how I know 😔 The boards of this construction are awesome.
Would love to see you ride a Tomo Evo. Any chance you could review one? I love mine - it's a 5'11 cause I'm bigger and older than you! Also have a Sci-Fi and an SKX. They both need good waves to work properly for me. Evo works in ANYTHING up to about 4ft.
Great Episode!! Could you make a surfboard review of the Vessel delta surfboard, I think it‘s by The Surfboard Warehouse. It would be very appreciated.
nothing against XTR, boards are great, BUT what for is good a few degassing pinholes in closed cell foam ? in this closed cell extruded polystyrene no air or gas can really flow anywhere, so for real degassing you would need a pinhole every mm or two,,,
Awesome video. How come epoxy resin repairs don't need to be cured in an oven though? Had to do one a few weeks ago & the base coat and hot coat both seemed to harden fine overnight.. are they not actually fully cured?
Sam Birchenough From What Javier said... it will harden but it takes roughly 4 months for it to cure. Not sure a ding repair needs to be cured... just make sure it hardens and you should be good.
It depends on the formula . . . Epoxies like solar rez epoxy, only needs light (sunlight or UV) to cure. Other epoxies come in two part formulas (catalyst + resin) that you have to mix, like standard polyester resin for surfboards, before it will cure over time. Javier uses the one that needs heat to cure. IIRC the heat cure epoxy was one of the more stable resins (didn't yellow or was too stiff) after Grubby Clark incident when EPS was being explored.
Terry Coulits we are still working on this review. Not much for waves this winter sorry. I am learning the SKX in LFT and XTR need some wave to go good. This model feels good in 3’ surf and bigger. Hang in there we have a swell coming next week. Cheers
Thanks Noah. I will be interested to hear about your review. If you wouldn't mind giving the SKX a comparison against the Hayden Shapes Holy Grail I'd really appreciate it as im tossing up between these 2 models. Cheers. Terry
Terry Coulits The Holy Grail is a better daily Driver for waves in the 1-6’ range. The SKX is a legit performance board and goes good in 3-6’ surf. That comment right there should help you make your decision.
Last bit of advice for me Noah. I am a fit 50 year old , consider myself to be a intermediate-advanced surger (been surfing over 40 years) , weigh 150lbs and am 5'7"but need a bit more paddle advantage in the surf these days!! What size board/volume would you recommend for me in the Holy Grail?
Ive been trying to contact XTR via email. Their Aussie contact doesnt work, so I contacted head office twice now but still no reply. I just want to know if I can order a Tomo / Slater Cymatic in XTR, & what options to use on the XTR website order form. I think the price will be about $1650 AUD so its not a small amount Im wanting to spend with XTR but Im excited to get my hands on one of these things. Any chance you could give the guys a nudge for me to answer their emails ?
Surf n Show Reviews I still havent heard from them so I bit the bullet and just went ahead, used their custom “dont see your board here” option to order the Cymatic. That was 3 days ago now, still no correspondence except for my order and payment details so I am only assuming at this point that my order will be processed and I’ll be looking at my board in about 10 weeks. Thank you for your help and support, love your show, its by far the best review show on the net. I love the unbiased view and range of boards is phenomenal. Keep it up.
Wow, sick! Javier seems like a dude who knows his stuff! Awesome to see that we're getting closer to having boards for life (ECO)!
Sneekinabout Om' Javier is very knowledgeable and I love to pick his brain and learn from him. Stoked you liked the show!!!
Yeah Javi!! So awesome Noel!!
Javier is full of knowledge and XTR is amazing tech! Awesome that someone finally did a video with insight straight from the source!
Deforest L. Cooper Yewww!! Glad you liked the show. Javi is great and he teaches me a lot. Thanks Javi!!!
omg amazing video. I could listen to the two of you for HOURS! Kudos Bro!
Appreciate your work. You have my gratitude.
Kiana Ohana Cheers
Super informative, great video Noah, can't wait for those SKX reviews.
I cannot wait to ride these two boards. They look and feel amazing
Great vlog, can't wait to the review,
Just broke my knee during Surfing, surgery, open Fracture tore my tendum bla bla, so looking forward for your reviews.
I am so sorry you got hurt. Get better quick! Cheers יכין ינקלביץ
I love this new VLog video format! Keep going! Hello from Spain!
Love these reviews and vlogs! Really unique to see. And your surfing and knowledge is top notch. Keep up the awesome work!
Jarrod Wieland Cheers... stoked you like our show
You produce great informative videos. Thank you.
Good info! More of this kind would be great.
Never really understood the difference between EPS and XTR foam. Thanks for making this vlog !
Mark Yoshida The XTR is a closed cell foam and the EPS is open cell. XTR will not absorb water if you get a ding and EPS will soak it up. XTR is stronger and will last longer. Both are more durable than PU.

That was awesome, very interesting!
Great episode! Keep making more like these!
Wow, great ep! Thanks
I had a couple XTR boards and loved them. They were white for the longest time as well. Truth be told I would get back on them in a second.
David Juliano Thanks for posting.... and get back on one. Cheers
Really informative Noel, keep them coming! ;)
Great insight into the tech and brains of Javier at XTR - just picked up my custom XTR Hydronaut from them last week. After you experience the Tomo quad channel inside a channel maybe you can check out the hydronaut as well. Keep up the solid work!
Greg Schexnayder Cheers glad you liked the show!!
Boom. Interesting Ep guys...
Very cool.
Great job Noel!!
Cheers... really fun show for me. Always learning!!!!
Have a custom 2012 XTR Tomo and it still rides phenomenal ....... lightest blank ever ....... second is Coil Industries.
Still, seriously waiting for the review of the SKX. Can't wait much longer!!!
Glen Goodwin Sorry for the delay... still no waves and stormy conditions. We will drop this review in 2 weeks. Hang tight....
Mate, no stress! Your reviews are the most anticipated on youtube........because they're that good and informative.

Glen Goodwin Sounds like the 5’11” SKX is perfect. This board needs some wave to go good. 3-6’ surf is ideal for the SKX.
I ding boards and just heavy footed... wtf have I been doing my whole life. I need XTR!
Tom Fletcher XTR will be great for you!!!
Javier rules. XTR was the first to use most of the new carbon & stringerless concepts . The XTR foam which is XPS like Closed cell and will handle water from dings (good luck dinging em) Great flex , they have almost too much float . So order a tad smaller dims.
Oh and superlight boards.
Scott Horban Thanks for your comments!!!
Scott Horban Cheers and thanks for sharing your experience about XTR with us!!!
It would've been nicer if you added in little video clip of walking into the shop from outside. I've always wanted XTRs and this video explains it better than anything else out there. I like your recent video styles.
Mike Kim Cheers glad you liked the review.

Mike Kim Classic comment... cheers to you guys at Middles!!!! I might do something like that in the future. Cheers
Great Vlog, so informative. I can't wait to see the difference between the XTR and Firewire LFT techs. I currently have a Sci Fi thats my fav board but starting to de-lam on the deck so looking at maybe getting one in XTR.
martinwajda Stoked you like our show!!! How long have you had your SciFi for before the deck started delaminating? How did it happen?
After about 8 months, which is good as far boards go. Not sure how it happened but first I got a little blister, then 2, now there is 3 and all getting bigger. Apparently its a common problem with them but I am not complaining as the board is 14 months old and still in one piece.
martinwajda Good to know it’s 14 months old and still shredding. Thanks for your comments.

JBOsurf That Board looks fun... maybe in the future I can get on one of those.
You'll be surprised by the performance level I think.
Let's go with the evo the older guys want too see
javier matos Maybe
Great Episode!! Could you make a surfboard review of the Vessel delta surfboard, I think it‘s by The Surfboard Warehouse. It would be very appreciated.
quite interesting about xtr..
Hey Noel, how’s the review coming along? Ended up scoring a cheap SKX second hand, but we’ve not had any waves to try it out in yet.
Waxfoot Same here bro no waves... I surfed it 2x so far. Got a couple good ones though. The review is only about half way done.
*Interesting*
nothing against XTR, boards are great, BUT what for is good a few degassing pinholes in closed cell foam ? in this closed cell extruded polystyrene no air or gas can really flow anywhere, so for real degassing you would need a pinhole every mm or two,,,
john doe I think it’s great to have peace of mind that it won’t delaminate. I also like the flex of XTR... and how they customize it to your weight.
Oside!
I'd love to try a Pyzel 5'7 Phantom in XTR
bodhi tree That would be EPIC!!!
Epoxy/Post Cure. The XTR foam should be pre heated to release gas and or stress.🤔😊
Was there ever an SKX review made from this? :)
Eric Osterlund Not yet... no waves in the 3-6’ range since I got these boards.

So XTR still requires Thermovents?
BRADEN BADUA There might be now....
Hey Noah...Have you had a chance to test the Tomo SKX in the LFT and XTR constructions? Would love to see your review .
Terry Coulits we are still working on this review. Not much for waves this winter sorry. I am learning the SKX in LFT and XTR need some wave to go good. This model feels good in 3’ surf and bigger. Hang in there we have a swell coming next week. Cheers

Terry Coulits I think the 5’8” sounds good if you need the extra volume. The 5’7” sounds a bit high performance....

Javier I’m Peruvian too! Noel you lost 10 lbs?
Miguel Marquina Yes... I have not been 160lbs since I was a Senior in High School.
Why does Javier keep saying "this is a board for Noel" while you're right there ?
Asaf Naot It’s just his style of talking on video.
