    Just watched your carrots in container video and now this one. After watching both, I understand the difference between bone meal & blood meal fertilizer. Bone meal is great for root development which helps carrots, and blood meal great for leaf growth. Makes sense why you used these in different applications!

    "Salad bar" - yes it is! So thoughtful of you to plant them in threes, with one each of the varieties, to make it lovely for Nancy to enjoy as she's harvesting. Each container is beautiful! Romaine is my favorite type of lettuce. Glad to learn that it comes in colorful varieties, makes a salad even more beautiful. I appreciate the hard work and planning you put into all your videos, especially these progressive videos, which are extraordinarily helpful to new gardeners. New gardeners need to see the progression before they start, and to re-watch as their plants grow to compare, and make sure they're on the right track. Experienced gardeners benefit too, of course, particularly with plants they've never grown before. Invaluable! Thank you very much! Have a great weekend!

    I've only just found your channel and am thoroughly enjoying it.
    As I live in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, we have a very narrow window for growing cold-weather crops like lettuce and brassicas.
    For this reason, I garden things like these indoors with a little hydroponic help. This way I can grow lettuce and microgreens year-round.
    Brassicas don't work very well this way though, so I grow them in shade tunnels as early in the spring, or as late in the fall, as I dare. I somehow have great success with broccoli, but am still struggling with brussel sprouts until late fall just before the snow flies. Peppers are impossible to grow here without a hoop or greenhouse, but I've come up with a cheap alternative this year, so we'll see.
    I would love to get out of Canada and immigrate to Florida (what a haven), but for now, I'll live vicariously through you two.
    Grumpy Canuck Granny❣

    Confession: I've been binge watching you. Question: after you give the initial blood meal (and bone meal and whatever else), do you do any other fertilizing? I suspect you don't since I haven't heard you mention any top dressing later on but thought it's better to ask. I'm convinced you can literally grow anything and if that's all the fertilizing you do, I'm here for it.

    You make this look so easy. I was a complete failure this year at my first attempt at a balcony garden. I have some questions. Why do you trim them up at the beginning, and do you throw the excess away? What temperature outside is too hot? Do I need to get extra light if my balcony is covered?

I have a few fruit trees and a small 30 X 50 garden. I have a small pet cemetery, but with the way it's going in our country, I might have to desecrate it to plant some veggies there next year.

      HONDA. Yes, I recommend it. I have used them for many years. This one has lasted me for 7 years so far and I am pretty hard on them. For a small backyard gardener this unit will serve them well for many years. We have the cultivator on our AMAZON link on the ABOUT Tab on our channel. Check them out👍

    Since I'm only using containers does it matter what soil I use? Potting soil or container soil?

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  2 года назад +1

      Potting mix is a stand alone soil to be used with nothing else added. Go with the potting mix👍
