I love that you show the time progression of the whole project. So many people just do one day projects that they might do an update on in a few months. This way you can see how they grew and weather the technique was successful. You two are great and I learn a lot.
Thank you. We try to give everyone the entire process on one video unless it is simply too long such as the corn Mini-Series we released last week. Even when we have to break it up in 2 or 3 parts we will release them within days of each other to help you. 👍
My husband and I just found your channel a couple of weeks ago and we just love it and you both remind us of ourselves. We are you age and we live in Archer Florida right out of Gainesville. God bless you both and keep the great videos coming!
Have you ever tried topping your peppers? I tried it one year just as an experiment and it was such a success that I do it every year no. Once your young plant has 6 set of true leave cut the top growth off to 4 true leaves. Doing so forces the plant to Bush out instead of grow high (more branches = more support and more growth point for peppers) I do this with all pepper types. My yield has tripled even with bell peppers
Hey Hollis been missing you and Nancy. I'm sixty and I've been using black all my life right out of the feed lot. I just pile it up and let it mature for two years before I use it good stuff.
Well, another pepper I have to try! I just love growing peppers. Last year was my best year ever for peppers. I sure want to expand the varieties of peppers in my little garden. I love these start to finish plant videos. I thank you for the effort and planning that goes into making them. They are perfect for everyone, especially beginners! Good health and happiness to you; hugs and kissies for Bing Bing. Have a great weekend.
WOW! I have never seen that many peppers in one garden before. Hollis I am looking to see if you have a green thumb. These are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your garden with your viewers.

Bing Bing is doing much better now. He developed a really bad cough after the vomiting and diarrhea episode. He is doing better with that now too. He is eating normally again and he only coughed one bad time yesterday. He should be 100% in another week 🐶
I used your method using the blood and bone meal and it was best results I have had. I hosted the first pepper eating contest in my town and you helped make it happen.

I have never heard of this type of pepper and wish I had seen this earlier. Our growing season is not too long here in Maine and I usually start my peppers early. I have put these on my seed list for next year. Thank you!
@Hollis and Nancy Homestead ......I realize that this video is 3 years old but I just came across it last night. Our beloved Datil pepper originated in the Minorcan community in St. Augustine, Florida. Maybe by now you have learned more about the history of the pepper. The Minorcans are a close knit community and its just been in recent years that their recipes were shared with others. Read about the Minorcans and their history in St. Aug. And just so you know the pronunciation is Dat-il pepper NOT Day-til pepper as you are saying it. We Minorcans have enjoyed this pepper for many, many years! I enjoy your videos as well as Nancy's recipes. God bless you both!
I discovered Datil peppers recently when a gentleman I worked for over the summer offered me some from his garden. Super tasty with a respectable bite, they remind me of tiny scotch bonnets when it comes to heat and taste.
Yes, they have some respectable kick. These are the sweet variety (no heat) and have a very good flavor. Nancy is going to be making a hot sauce with the hot variety next spring
Wow, I can’t believe how big they got!! That blood and bonemeal’s the way to go and you were so right giving them all that support! They kind of reminded me of a habanero pepper.
Originally from St. Augustine but now living several hours inland in the country I can tell you the Minocan's brought the Datil Pepper over although the Datil originated in China. The Oldest City has a Minocan Festival which features many products made with Datil's. Datils make an excellent Datil Mustard good on BBQ. Also a red sauce which is excellent in red beans and rice and many more dishes. The seed can now be found at Baker Creek Seed Company. If in St. Augustine in the Spring you can find small plants at any feed store and most local nurseries.
Hollis thank you and Nancy for all your videos. I have learned so much from you guys. I’ve recently learned that the X pepper is the hottest pepper in the world won a world record it’s so hot 🥵2.4+million in what they measure to be hot.😅 I’m curious if you ever heard of these? I can’t wait til next spring to start using all these wonderful tips and techniques you have shared on your channel. After watching numerous videos from your channel, I know what I did wrong and have began a note book of lessons I have learned and the things I will be changing next year. So between now and then, I will be gathering my containers and making a few more grow tables for my back yard so that next year I will be ready to start my planting at the appropriate time. Thank you so much for sharing all your techniques with us. They have really helped me learn how to produce a better crop of veggies which will save us money and help us to eat healthier foods. I am so grateful I found your channel. I hope you both have a blessed day!

Yes, i beleive they are a chinesne variety like habeneros, ghost, scotch bonnet, reaper....so they really prefer 80F to 90F. (What is that, 40-45C?). Here in new england in the US where its also temperate, once the roots are well established they can grow up to an inch per day when its at the ideal temperature range. Because its early july right now, its only just now getting to optimal growing conditions for these types of peppers despite starting them back in march.
