It's amazing to think that just 50 years prior to this being filmed that, that was the Wild West that some of the people in their 70s and 80s during the time of the filming witnessed the old west first hand.

The wild west was closer to 1950 than 1950 was to now

Born 1947 and raised in Flagstaffl. Lived/worked in 6 other states. Always came back ASAP. Hiked down to Phantom Ranch and back up in 1 day as a freshman in college. Graduated from ASU in 1972. Ran the Colorado from Lees's Ferry to Temple Bar in 1976. Lived for 37 years in Scottsdale. Now live in Wickenburg. Lived in CA (Downey) fro 1974 -1977. What a culture shock when leaving pristine AZ for LA. Even back then there was so many signs CA was out of control. Now even more concerned with all the people? fleeing CA after managing to make CA become a such a 3rd World country. One positive is that most of the people fleeing CA are leaving for the same reasons I noticed in 1977. Have new neighbors from Newport Beach, Laguna Nigel, San Clemente, SF, SD, Santa Barbara, etc.

Is the mine at 3:35 the same open pit mine that "A Kiss Before Dying" staring Robert Wagner was filmed? It looks familiar. Looks the same but then again this country has many states with open mines.

No, I believe the mine in the film is Morenci, AZ, (notice the railroad tracks), "A Kiss Before Dying" was filmed in Miami, Arizona at the Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co. open pit that doesn't have railroad tracks.

Boulder Dam, or more accurately, Hoover Dam, was completed in 1936. This video is 1940s at best. You may want to check the Carl Dudley archives for a more accurate date?

They renamed it the Hoover Dam the very year this film was released.

5:58+ This film has been doctored > sky. Spraying the skies wasn't going on in the Forties, not until the 1980's.

Weird. The sky does look a little funky after 5:58. What the heck?

4:14 "Ensuring a stable lumber industry" As if this is a good thing. The lumber industry destroyed thousands of square km of forests without reseeding them. I can't stand that kind of exploitation. Also the copper industry is a huge polluter.

This happened everywhere. Everyone is learning their lesson now, so jump off your pedestal because I'm sure you're doing something that the future will look back and your and say, you ruined the world. History is history. Often, it's not pretty.

What kind of pollution is all the feces, urine, drugs and trash in CA considered? Have you seen the 3rd World squalor in Oakland lately? In downtown LA lately? In downtown SF lately? Wonder what all this pollution is doing to the environment and quality of life in CA? Is it hazardous or toxic, or both? PS. The lumber, agricultural and mining industries are NOT the problem!

Before? Arizona was part of Mexico until 1848. Funny how racism and ignorance always seem to go together.

@@OrionBurdick Even then, southern Arizona still belonged to Mexico until the Gadsden Purchase of 1853. Also, Arizona along with most of North America belong to New Spain for almost 300 years.
