austwin1 austwin1 wow, dang. I could listen to you for hours. I am fascinated with the history of Phoenix and surrounding area. Do you have photos of the valley back in the day? Amazing
I was 5 when these were taken and a couple of times a year my dad had to go to Sky Harbor to pick up some air freight. They would open the gate on the side of the terminal and we'd drive our truck up to the plane and they'd load dad's truck right there. Today we'd have to take off our shoes just to get in the parking lot let alone let us get near a plane.
I was born in Phoenix that year. My dad would take us to Sky Harbor to watch planes on Sundays when I was about 6 yrs old. Great video!
Loud ass planes flying over Tempe
That is rad. You don’t meet very many people who are from here
@@buttdreads And both my parents were born there, too. One in 1928 and the other in 1930.

We moved here in 72 when I was a little kid. Love these old vids!! Thanks👍🏻
Everyone dressed up to get on a plane back then. It was a big to do. Now you just roll out of bed and get on in your pajamas. Lol
Thanks for taking the time to preserve and share a part of our past.
Really miss the holiday parades in Phoenix
Everyone looks so dressed boarding the plane. Nice!😊
Back when the land was undisturbed. No shopping centers or subdivisions and 3 million less people. Miss those days a lot!!
Unless you count Park Central which opened the year before!!
@@misterhot9163 Tower Plaza was first.
@@marcparella Tower Plaza opened in 1967.
@@misterhot9163 I stand corrected.
The silver in those parking meters would now buy a plane...
I was 11 when we got there in October 1959 and thought it was a big city
I remember wearing white gloves out in public and to church.
4:32 Who are these fancy Sky Harbor ladies?? Just being filmed walking around all slowly, looking right into the camera.
