- Paradise Valley was once expected to become the agricultural rival of its neighbor the Salt River Valley. Paradise's long quest to irrigate using water from the Verde River shaped its early history and ended in an angry event where effigies were hanged and burned. Find the stories and learn about the people behind the intriguing early years of Paradise Valley, Arizona in this video by Ed Dobbins and John Augustine.

The first photo shows the McDowell Mountains, looking east. The last peak on the left is the one that has the huge radio tower today.

Nice video! I didn't know about the pre 20th century settlement attempts. Thanks for the work putting it together.
Great info, Ed. Thank you. I grew up on 34th St., north of Cactus, and didn't know any of this info.
Very interesting, I’ve studied much of the history of the SRVWUA and didn’t know this about PV.
Wonderful video! I love learning about stuff like this!
Awsome so excited to learn some history of the valley.
Born and raised here. I'm 70. Road my horses across Greenway and Bell Roads when they were dirt. Parents had a 5-acre place on 27th St just north of Greenway. It was nice then. It's not so nice now. I remember the Post Office of Cactus.
Thanks for this. Very interesting.
2nd comment - thanks so much for the effort you put into this video. I live in this area and have always wondered about what came before all of these suburbs!
Great video.
I was thinking a history of Shaw butte and info. about Cloud 9 would make a great video.
