    Lots of people are bad mouthing the Paccar engine. There is nothing wrong with it , if you are doing the proper maintenance. Drove it for 4 year 520000 mile. , Never break down or have to be towed. Got average 7.4 mile/gal running beverage and paper rolls. Rule#1. Never wash any engine when is hot. Lots of guys have a bad habit running the road and pull in the truck wash ,wash the engine and the truck. Paccar is a good engine.

      Yep, it's a good engine. This is the 4th year on the engine in my truck and the only thing that been done to it was that the crankcase ventilation module and a few software updates. Other that that it hasn't been to the dealer for anything. No emissions issues as well. Plus I don't let my truck sit and idle. I have a lot of coworkers who with sit and let the trucks idle for hours. I've always heard that it's not good for the trucks to idle for extended periods of time.

      I think people are forgetting that it's a 13 liter engine and it's not going to be like the 15 liter engines cause of its displacement. It does a good job for what it is. Put the Paccar MX up against other 13 liter engines and let's see how it does. My old 07 T800 with the C-15 didn't like it when pulling a hill and the rpms got below 1200 where the Paccar at that rpm is still pulling and you can run it down to 1000 rpms. I think the 455 hp one can go 900 rpms and still be at peak torque. Then again the T800 had a C-15 w/ 8 spd and my T880 has a Paccar 500 hp w/ 18 spd. Engine technology has changed quite a bit since 2006.

      Exactly, Paccar includes a DVD in with the owners manuals of all their new trucks w/ the Paccar MX and it tells you how to run them and all. I've watched it quite a few times. I know my coworkers haven't.

    MX engine's is from Daf Netherlands .
    we had them around 2004 /5 .
    410 Hp and up, and yes they were and still are super strong in low RPM /high tork .
    loved them and still love em,
    i even prefer this engine above the Volvo's or Scania's.
    regards from the Netherlands..nice to see that Daf joining Paccar is working out for both very well.

    We have this engine in the D A F XF over here in the UK and Europe. It does well here on the whole, even been to the D A F museum last year in Holland and learned some more about the way they make them.
    I loved this engine for the brief period of time that I drove that big D A F, great bottom end power and excellent fuel economy. Not quite as efficient as a Scania 6 cylinder, but not far off.

    That truck is very similar to the 2 that we have, one's the same color and the other is a like Skittle Green color. We all have a Blue mid roof that should be here in a few weeks. Ours are spec'd very similar with a few things different. Kenworth did a good thing when they designed this truck. The two guys who drive them really like them and that Paccar transmission. Now if they could only come out with a version for the vocational trucks. You're right about the MX 13 it's designed to run at a current rpm and it's a great engine for what it is. Great video and a great truck that goes along with it and I'll be looking forward to the next one.

    Hey Josh great video i like the way you present the trucks theres not many videos like this on the internet so great job on that! Now coming from europe where automated transmissions are used for a long time, i know very well how good they are or they can be. I believe the American truck drivers are not introduced and educated enough on this transmissions, i believe once they know more about them they will like them more. I love that you pointed to it but i would love a video focused more on the transmission, it will help people understand that this is not the old ultrashift that was ment to be manual or allison automatic, but this is a smart geared automated transmission that was designed to perform very efficiently.

    Also, I see that Paccar and Eaton had a collaboration for this transmission seeing as how this same model is branded as the Endurant for Cummins. I had the Endurant and it was the BOMB. I'll never own an automated manual over this.

    • @KenworthofRichfield
      @KenworthofRichfield  5 лет назад +2

      The Endurant is just next level, but it is still considered an "automated" transmission. In the ultrashift, you have to adapt to it where it seems like the Endurant is almost predictive. It really is an amazing piece of engineering. Glad you like it!!!!

    Does this new transmission make it easier for green horns (like me) to drive a truck? I've been turn down by numerous trucking schools claiming someone like me will never be able to handle a vehicle of this size. That is the ONLY reason why I am not drive a semi. I've been driving pickups since I had license and I have towed long & heavy trailers with those trucks. I LOVE trucks of all sizes. Yes, I know pickups are nothing remotely close to a big semi with 18 (or more) wheels and towing thousands of pounds of cargo.

    Most European engines for trucks are designed for 900 rpm - 1300 rpm and has 12 speed. This engine is what you get in the DAF trucks in Europe. They have a 530 hp version too now. This video is laid out really well honestly except the interior section where the music is drowning you out. You should have it fade out before you comment about details. Thank you! Actually, I shoot most of it and produce all of it in 24 fps which is what most things are shot in. I think part of it is that so much of it is shot with a tripod where the camera is stationary. If I could shoot with a shoulder mount or handheld, it would probably help a ton. But it's hard to hold the camera and be in front of the camera at the same time. :D Also, check out some of my latest videos as I think I got a bit better with the color and that. Let me know!!!!!

    I climb alot of hills and mountains here in PA. Those lower gear ratios are bad in my case. 3.55 is the minimum I would be able to do. Is that possible with that trans? Also I've never driven an automatic. I'm an owner operator.

    • @KenworthofRichfield
      @KenworthofRichfield  4 года назад

      You could do a 3.55, but you'd lose a ton of mileage and speed. I'd rather let the trans shift going up a hill and get the mileage on the flats. the 2.79 or 2.88 is definitely the way to go in this truck. Especially the case with the low end torque that it has.

    I'm a a bit confused, Josh, about the transmission. At 4:30 into the vid yo say it has a clutch. Is' that for starting & stopping only? At 9:42 you say it has 2 pedals to mess with. Sounds like no clutch. Also that math lesson would be helpful. At 1100 rpm and a 2.79 rear gear, what speed would you be running? I really enjoy the explanations, the education. You are the first to mention (that I've ever heard) about the KIM system, though I think it's been around a while, right? Thanks again for you vids, Josh. We need the education! :~)

    • @KenworthofRichfield
      @KenworthofRichfield  5 лет назад

      Thanks Frank! This truck has a clutch. In fact, it's the same clutch as the manual transmission version. It only has 2 pedals as the computer controls the clutch. There's an electric/air actuator that controls the clutch on automated transmissions like this one. As far as the KIMS system, I plan on going farther in depth in that system with the next truck that we get in that has one in it. I forget exactly what RPM we are at when running 1100RPM.

    Headlights are not so bright compared with competition.
    I do not know why kenworth makes drivers area narrower than competition. Dirt get to side of windows and body, and you have to clean all the time.
    You have to see fender mirrors alot because convex mirrror visions are smaller than the last model.
    I have noticed airbags are fragile, and oil gets into coolant reservoir, and exhoust
    leaks out of engine blocks, transmission can go wrong if airbags are not working properly. Be aware of those known problems.

      No studio sleeper for the T680 and they stopped producing the T660 in 2017 if I'm not mistaken. The T680 had become the truck of choice. Would have been nice to see the T660 hang in there, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

    Outside of some minor cosmetics' on the front fender and grill the 680 and 880 look to be the same truck. Why make both? I understand the 2.1 cab axed the 660 so we have the 680. This reminds me of the GMC Chevrolet pickups. GM makes both and other than some minor cosmetics it is the same truck. The 660 was a really nice rig. I hate that it is no longer made today.

      I think it's just like how Kenworth has done with the T600, T800 and W900 line. Their carrying it over and continuing it with the T680, T880 and W990 with each one having it's purpose. The T680 is their on highway model, T880 is vocational and the new W990 is that long hood model that people seem to love. Plus a lil bit of a variety is good as well. Not to mention that all three can be available as day cabs and mid roofs.

    • @spliceoncharlie
      @spliceoncharlie 5 лет назад +2

      @@waynenorbreyjr9371 I understand where you are coming from, but there was an obvious difference in the t600, t800 and w900. The 660 fit really well into this lineup after the end of the t600, but if everything is going to the 2.1 cab then all they need is the 880 and the 990. There are not any differences in the 680 and 880 and most of the OTR trucks I am seeing are the 880's and just a few 680's. I literally have to walk up and look at the door to see if they are 880 or 680. No sense in having both and I see KW getting rid of one or making some changes to make the two different.

      Yeah, the T680 and T880 have there slight differences. The grille, bumper, headlights and fenders are a lil bit different on the T880. It was sad to see the T660 go, the comforts and the space of the T680 is what Kenworth needed and that was the go to truck. Other manufacturers were already offering the wider cabs and I was always wondering when Paccar was gonna follow suit. They tried, but I thought that the T2000 and 387 might have been too wide, my opinion of course. The T680 is a good balance between the T2000 and the T660.
