  • Les Hiddins heads west through Australia's Gulf Country to Jasper Gorge in the Northern Territory. Along the way he explores underground lava tubes, builds a bush washing machine, finds a 'lost city' and recounts the rich history of an old cattle route - the Marranji track. At Jasper Gorge, he seeks out a fascinating Aboriginal stone structure - a unique method of harvesting bush tucker.
'Bush Tucker Man: East to West' originally aired on the ABC in 1990.

Les is my hero, i love the Australian outback because of this man, his heart for the original in habitants and there lessons and culture has educated a generation of Australians and affected them is such a positive way. He's so humble, too humble, he basically pioneered the documentation and identification of Australian bush tucker not that he will outwardly say it was all him. Think it's about time he was renamed Sir Les Hiddins.

Tell you what, this here's a great example of a place to get a feed. This spot by the edge of the waterhole is close enough to the road that every now and then a wild Les Hiddins will come by and just drop in some delicious steaks!

Quintessential Australia, the colours the landscapes, the experience…..this is an average day in out-back Australia…rustic unforgiving and beautifully unique to any where else on this planet….and always home no matter how harsh or inhospitable. I grew up in the country with things constantly spiking, biting and tripping me out, now I miss the environmental abuse.✌🦘
