- Drum cover of Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys after the Pet Sounds album sessions in late 1966. This song is part of the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.
The great Hal Blaine on drums.
Released as a single on October 10, 1966 and was The Beach Boys' third U.S. number-one hit as well as being their first British chart-topper. Recorded during the Pet Sounds album sessions, and later placed on the album Smiley Smile.
The great session drummer Hal Blaine and The Wrecking Crew are on the track. BTW: that's a tambourine assigned to the top of my hi-hat cymbal.
It just shows you how great Hal Blaine was. He knew when to lay off and crafted the songs perfectly. Thanks for showing me how it was crafted!!
Dennis played live concerts but not on studio recordings. He'd rather spend his time at the beach surfing. As Hal Blaine put it, Dennis made thousands of dollars playing live while only made 100s for the recordings. BTW: much of the instruments on this and other BBs recordings is the Wrecking Crew whom Hal was part of.
Nicely done and perfect for this San Diego day!! Love it!
This is giving me some good vibrations!! :)
Thank you for viewing my cover. I subbed to your channel because you sing and play well. Thank you for introducing yourself by your comment.
@@rhythmantic I did the same to yours! I look forward to some more great drum covers!
@Maclolp Yes I understand, I don't particularly like playing without a ride pattern, it's a bit uncomfortable, however, another the skill of solidifying one's internal time happens because of it.
I play all my covers by ear, it's a matter of: 1. learning the arrangements, 2. key & signature fills (The groove often plays itself).
Only a few songs I used a chart: Speechless, Next 5 Minutes, All Along The Watchtower, and Eastside.
This song brings a smile to my face. (: Another wonderful cover.
Nice visuals as always! Perfect to complement an amazing cover.
@Maclolp Yes, it is a challenge not to ride. Ringo did this quite often in the later years of The Beatles, Taxman for example. I should have rehearsed this song more, I now hear/see things I could've played utilizing the no-ride pattern. I added that part in the bridge, there is no backbeat on the original recording, well, why not?! I'm adding a groove here. There are many ways to interpret a song's groove, what's on a recording is just one of the ways, not all of the ways. Thanks for watching.
Wow, I love this, good job with keeping up with the Toms...

Thank you for viewing the cover.
Wow Sal, excellent song choice, brilliant drumming and a superb mix, fantastic. loved it!!!!.
@snoplau Thanks. Yes, I've recorded with an artist/musician/worship leader whose CD is about to be released. I also play in a jazz quartet, and as a playlist in iTunes attests to, I have played in 100s of bands and many recording sessions. I do recording projects with musicians all over the world. It's a great age to be living in.
Thanks. Yes, especially that bridge part where it could've used a good backbeat and ride cymbal. Thanks for watching.
@sbbinahee It's on their, the tambourine, that's what gave me the idea to use it. Thanks for checking it out.
Very intricate drumming. I liked that you put in the tambourine sound from the high hat. Very interesting facts you noted about the song. It's funny because I have recently been listening to a few BB songs hoping the cover at least 1 at some point and I realized that the drumming is very unique. Nice one Sal....Nick
Excellent !!!! WOW!!!! I have been trying to figure out the drum intro and you have shown me the way. I looped you and followed along with you and now I have it. Thanks "GOOD GOOD VIBRATIONS"
Good for you, may it be a fabulous time. I read that the BBs have released a new album and it received good reviews.
@amberitokristabelle Hey thanks a lot and for stopping by and checking it out.
Very well done !! Love all the songs you play
Great Music 2021
awesome!
@readyeddy101 Yea Nick, it was bugging me that I hadn't covered a BB tune yet and this was on my mind as 1st choice, but it's an unusual tune so I procrastinated for a while, but once I spent a little time learning what Hal played, it was all right. I think Help Me Rhonda might be next. Thanks man.
Great Job!
@SQDLVR Thanks, yea, I was thinking of summer, that's the BBs all right.
Such a cool song! Love the way you played it nice! Keep em up!
@mikelandreth Thanks, those were the cats in those days, and Gary Chester.
That was excellent!, great shirt too :)
Thank you David. Yea, the Hawaiian shirt goes with the beach theme.
I love these drum covers! Keep up the wonderful work!
Greg Hartford
Thank you Greg.
YES MAN!
@dgarreis Hey thanks a lot, and for checking it out. You keep drumming too.
@MrHideyoursheep Thanks. Yes I did and I would encourage you to develop those ideas into full song compositions. Pretty rffin'.
@SistersGoldenHair Thanks a lot and for continuing to check out my videos, I appreciate it.
@badtwoface Hey thanks for checking it out.
Thanks for checking it out. I did play something of my own interpretation in the bridge that is not on the recording. Thanks for the info on Dennis vs Hal, rumor has it that Dennis preferred surfing over recording and would rather make $35,000 in concert dough while Hal made $35 for the session...according to Hal, anyway.
more beach boy covers!!!!!!!!!
@mrbeigan Thanks Dru.
great cover bro
Thank you. Keep playing!!!
@ZBraun95 Thanks a lot.
@rhythmantic yes
❤❤❤❤❤
@noble381297 Thanks my friend.
WOW
THATS AWESOME MAN! Ive always wondered how Hal did it. And Dennis not playing on "any" of their records is disgusting misconception. He actually played on a great deal of their records, 'specially the first 3 and mixed it up with Hail thereafter til Pet Sounds. I believe the only track on Pet Sounds Dennis played on was 'thats not me'. Hal was also used on Smile. Wild Honey thru Sunflower and into the Surfs Up sessions til he fucked up his hand that was all him as well.
@AndrewlovesBeatles14 Help Me Rhonda, I Get Around in the cue.
And I meant Hal not Hail ha. Dennis also was on 15 Big Ones, some of Love You... I'm not not sure bout MIU and Keepin the Summer Alive but I do believe he was on LA Light.
@MrJHughes30 Thanks.
Hey pretty good Any Jan & Dean another Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer (double druming) artist. THX !
YES MAN! Is that digi tambourine or is it on the BB's recording only?
Going Thursday 3-7-19 King Center, Melbourne, Florida, ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🎶🎶🎶😢
Cool!
What set do u have?
@MrHideyoursheep Thanks James, Sub if you dig it. Appreciate you checking out my stuff man.
This is really good! Do you have a band?
@KnowingsHalfDaBattle Please check my channel page for that info.
This isn't close to any of the recorded drum parts. I like this better.
Have you checked out my cover of Wouldn't It Be Nice?
rhythmantic - Sal D'Amato yes I heard your cover of wouldn't it be nice.
Holy Shit...More Jim Beam. Drums are deaf - like him.
Amazing cover, but this wasn't on Pet Sounds
Thank you. Yes, I stand corrected, it was recorded after the Pet Sounds sessions.
@@rhythmantic It was recorded during the Pet Sounds sessions, it just wasn't put on the album, still probably the best cover I've ever heard though!
Should be called Good Vibrations - The Wrecking crew (Drum Cover)
