The original Metro 2033 actually had decent AI, but they decided to dumb it down immensely for the Redux and sequels. Sneaking was ridiculously hard too, so in the Redux they made it piss easy with totally blind enemies like in Last Light. Oh, and the game expects you to not go on a killing spree for the good ending, but there's still no 'drag and hide bodies' option...
I noticed that whenever the I would sneak attack enemy during day and the others found the body became alert and they could see me from a far distance away even if crouched behind a tree and bushes. At night they’re blind as bats
Keybinding is the reason I gave it away, but it was the same in "W40K: Space Marine". Changing the keys to what I wanted was not an issue but in game the messages were like "Press ? to roll", which really p'ed me off. Reminded me that “Space Marine” only scored around the 50% positive mark from all reviewers AND players on release. BTW: Weapons rusting was introduced in "Farcry 3", and it was a great mechanic in the game. Nowhere near a workshop? Shoot your piece of crap till it falls apart, pick up a dead enemy's gun andf get around a clip worth's of value till you fight your way, or run over everyone to a workshop.
I have a guilty pleasure and it's these kind of cutscenes :P The way Artyom gets jumped by [spoiler] near the beginning and the thrusts his [spoiler] into the [spoiler] followed by him nearly [spoiler] but getting [spoiler] just in time by [spoiler] who then bring him back to base? You cannot pull something that cinematic off any other way than through a cutscene. I gladly tap E for a few seconds for those glorious moments.
liked the game, but what i didnt like it how u make bullets, in the other games you hasd to save your cash to buy WHICH bullets a real choice, and you had to count your bullets. this game bullets are easily craftable and you never pick up a enemys gun. before yourd run out of bullets then you HAD to take a enemy gun say a shotgun because u have no more rifle bullets left.

Bad points seem more personal and nitpicky than actual bad points. Most people won't care about key bindings and pressing E handful of times to crawl somewhere, it's just a game tbh.
honestly all this fuss about the E key - yes it's mildly annoying but only very mildly, it doesn't stop the game being one of the most immersive FPS ever.... can't imagine many people had the same issue
Just watched it again. I'm not through the game yet, but about the criticism with the lights, that the enemies don't see you. On my Monitor, with the right Gamma Settings: You can't see shit either. You need the flashlighht or the NV Goggles. And I felt pretty immersed by that. Try it if you get to play it again sometime. :) Also, the enemies normally don't get more health in a Metro Game on harder, especially ranger mode, but you get lots less ammo and resources and are easier to kill. Loved the Video. Have a great day!
You can one shot them on easy with pretty much any weapon but on hardcore you can see it takes a few body shots, not sure about head shots I am too shit these days to hit moving heads lol
@@WorthABuyreviews headshots seem very powerful in this game but having finished on normal and now doing hardcore or the 2nd highest at least) I love how enemies don't just become bullet spunges, rather it feels like I just get punished faster and harder for mistakes.

Good review, honestly thought the game would annoy you to no end because its clunky as all hell. Some things that annoyed me -game crashing 5-6 times throughout my playthrough -initial loading screens 2-3 minutes long -the sensitivity on console is quite fucked, but I got used to it after some hours. -the removal of ammo as currency, it made me feel like I didn't have to survive as much. -sounds are either completely missing or just broken -dialogue is bad, like it sounds so fake when each person is talking over another. It's more like they are not talking with eachother but at eachother in an unnatural way -Each story beat was quite predictable and generic -floating enemies -getting stuck in stuff Theres quite a few more. Before anyone has a go at me, I love the game despite its flaws and understand not everyone gets the same issues on any given playthrough.
@@TheBloopers30 Me too, I realized about 2/3 through that you could switch to Russian dub but it was too late. The English voice actors were goddamn awful. Atleast in Russian I wouldnt be able to tell how bad they are.
I am with you on this one. I really try to like the game and after playing for more than 6 hours I found it extremely boring to play. It's just a casual game that come and go and no one will remember in year or so. It's not epic game like Fallout and will never be.

I was really connected with the characters, and I just liked the overall atmosphere of the train etc, it makes me wanna take the trans siberian. Yes the game is easy and the AI should have been made better. The E key spam? Eh, I haven't really found it that much of an issue. The game is poorly optimised thats for sure. It's a good game but it dosent really feel like a metro game except for the cannibal level and the last level, I'd hope to see the future games return to metro artyom and the spartans got their happy ending now let's go see how the power vaccume affects the metro
Nah, Metro Exodus is excellent - easily the best Metro yet and I really enjoy the whole series. It's not perfect but it is overall an excellent game - Mack's gripes with the E key are overstated imo and doesn't dwell much on just how great the world design is
@@Yer_Da_ His problem is he's stuck in the 1999 in his idea of game design. It's a sign of getting old. I know how it feels I'm that way when I look at games but I try hard to be self-aware of it. Worth-A-Buy tries to carry that fossilized idea of how games should be as a badge. This is why his reviews are downright horrible often.
I have become old and picky! I am no longer willing to put up with a game that does things for me. Metro 2033 was one of the first games that made me realize how far FPSs had fallen. Story is no substitute for "doing stuff". Or gameplay as I like to think of it. STALKER is an obvious comparison to the Metro games but in STALKER you get dumped in an open world/map and the game lets you sort it out from there. I'm playing an indie game called "Desolate" at the moment. It's very much in the STALKER/Metro mould. The graphics are middling, the combat is clunky and the voice acting dodgy. But I choose where to go, what to do and how to do it. I'll take that over the gloss of Metro every time. P.S. It's great to have you back but don't push it. We can wait.
And stalker has mods up the wazoo, and great mods at that. I always find it a bit offensive when people compared Metro to Stalker. Not even in the same league.
Metro 2033 was alright, it felt like a survival game when you played ranger hardcore and I liked that a lot. What killed the game(and the series) for me were the numerous cut-scenes every three steps you took and that press E to avoid dying stuff. It killed immersion completely. But the feeling of dread and world was very well done. When you come out of the Metro the first time with Bourbon and look around the city, it was impressive as hell and only made you wish you could explore more of it.
@@MrSamadolfo I do agree. The term "action adventure" is often used for this kind of game and I do see why people like them. Neither do I consider CoD to be the shining example of the FPS genre. The single player campaigns are no better than Metro and there is more to FPSs than players running around one-shotting each other on a multi-player map. My problem is that these kinds of games have become the norm for the genre. I'm thinking back to single player FPSs like Half-Life, FEAR and STALKER. They put the emphasis on action while telling their story through the gameplay. If you have a few quid/euros/bucks to spare and love FPSs, then I highly recommend an indie game called "DUSK" to see what I mean. The best pure FPS I've played for a long time. Simple graphics and no cut scenes, just perfectly designed levels for combat that also tell the story as you progress. But, nowadays, that's the exception rather than the rule.
@@Greybeard101 🙂 action adventure, yes thats what i prefer myself, thats probably why i like the metro trilogy, ive never seen dusk, yes it does look like quake but its like a survival horror campaign game, neat idea✌️😏
@Moto andGivi OK have you ever seen anything glistening and shiny because it's covered in slime in Fallout 4? Because they nailed that perfect in the the submerged zones of the game. I think folks havent stopped to examine the amount of effort that went into every model in this game. I was blown away by the level of detail on the weapons and clothing.
Yea the whole cutscene thing does take away from the immersion quite a bit. I just started the game this morning before work and I'm kind of disappointed about that stuff already. It does seem pretty badass for the most part . But my only real issue that isnt so bad is simply not knowing where the hell to go. But that also opens up my love for random exploration. Because I like to find every possible thing ever. Turn over every rock and go around every corner. Which sucks once you accidentally advance too far to go back before searching that one door you decided you'd come back to.
I'm so disappointed in this game so far. I've bought ALL the metros and they were a blast. But his one.... The first hour or so of play is cut scenes. I came close to stopping because of it. When I buy a game, I want to play the game, not watch a movie!!!! And the AI is soooooo dumb!!! Like you said, they can't seem to see you. Several times, while crouching, I stepped out where one should have seen me, but didn't. Have had no trouble killing all the baddies. Only time I've died, is falling or drowning. Not been killed by AI yet and I'm playing Hard option. Why are they making games so easy these days??? That's why I quit the Farcry series. In Farcry5, I'd take a bow and wipe out a whole Outpost in a matter of minutes and never be seen. That was on the hardest difficulty. Anyway, Metro is fun as far as the creatures and sneaking around. Like one commenter said, cutscenes are lazy. No mechanics to program. And it's sad, 2 series (Metro and Farcry) that I've been a loyal fan of, bought every game in the series and really looked forward to playing, in the newest releases they've let us down. (I didn't get the latest Farcry). I'll most likely not buy another Metro.
My previous comment, I was only in the second chapter. Now I just finished Summer. Once you get thru the first part with all the cutscenes, it gets good! The AI is still weird - shooting me thru thick concrete walls, seeing me while I'm most certainly hidden, looking straight at me and not seeing me - weird! But the game is fun!!! Alot to do, alot of sneaking around, the story is great, the areas are rather large with alot of places to discover. Quite a few jump scares, that make it fun. Metro still has my loyalty. I'll buy the next one, if there is one.
hulyn1 you should’ve waited to say something but I actually agree completely on the far cry thing. I stopped playing after far cry 5. It was just awful.
Great to have you back reviewing games again,i hope your feeling much better. You really are without doubt one of the best reviews around, i love the fact you give the perspective from PC, so many reviews are console reviews without any mention of PC. Brilliant work
You forgot to mention how the main character you are playing with is mute and he doesn't say a damn thing the whole time. It is sooooo annoying hearing everyone kissing Artyom's butt the whole time of the game. Uncle Artyom uncle Artyom, so damn annoying. How come no one calls him "buddy" "man" "pal"? Not even his wife, what kind of wife calls her husband the whole time by his name instead of "honey" "baby" "sweetheart" so freakin annoying.
They are living in a post apocalyptic setting where every step they make and every new locations they discovered will always post unexpected dangers so why do you think they should address each other with those unneccessary cheesy name callings? Theres no time for rainbow and sunshines as their only concern is to survive using whatever they can find.
also a lot of crashes in directx 12 And the fps that can go from 150 to 50 ... The AI is awfull indeed The game was fun thow:) And i have to say far cry new dawn is better
Lol wtf are you saying? Just disable d12 in that case. There's no noticeable difference between the two of them. Did not get a single fps drop moment using dx 11. You just probably can't take time to adjust the settings to your PC correctly.
Far Cry New Dawn was boring for me to be honest. And Metro Exodus was phenomenal and i really got hooked up to it till the ending. I played Far Cry New Dawn after that, and then my first impression is.. Villains sucks, characters sucks, story, writing sucks and cringy as hell... Gunplay is quite fast but smooth (Maybe i just got used on slow pacing of Metro Exodus). But the game is quite fun to play actually especially with a friend. But that's about it, and for me that is not enough. So Metro Exodus is a far better game for me with it's immersive world design, great story, Immersive gunplay, slow pacing that takes its time, character development. One of the best games of 2019 that i have played along with Resident Evil 2 Remake.
The first 20 mins of the game i thought i was watching a movie so many cutscenes... and the press E thing i told a friend about that and he said i was overreacting xD

@KC19 IKR but he just has to mention it every time I complained about it and he responded that using TGFH saves space which is stupid I shot him down by saying he should just buy a TKL or 60% keyboard but he never responded and deleted my comment. I haven't watched his recent reviews but I hope he has stopped complaining about it the majority of gamers use WASD or the devs wouldn't have that as the default config.

Glad to see you back, Mack - all the best!
I dont know from what year are you from but the graphics man are just amazing...
You can change the QTE E-key spam in the Settings menu into single press only, it's much better.

Bad points seem more personal and nitpicky than actual bad points.
Most people won't care about key bindings and pressing E handful of times to crawl somewhere, it's just a game tbh.
Its just a game? What does that even mean in a review about the game
So what? Reviews are always subjective
Keep 'em coming. But keep 'em coming slowly, at your own pace!
honestly all this fuss about the E key - yes it's mildly annoying but only very mildly, it doesn't stop the game being one of the most immersive FPS ever.... can't imagine many people had the same issue

Some things that annoyed me
-game crashing 5-6 times throughout my playthrough
-initial loading screens 2-3 minutes long
-the sensitivity on console is quite fucked, but I got used to it after some hours.
-the removal of ammo as currency, it made me feel like I didn't have to survive as much.
-sounds are either completely missing or just broken
-dialogue is bad, like it sounds so fake when each person is talking over another. It's more like they are not talking with eachother but at eachother in an unnatural way
-Each story beat was quite predictable and generic
-floating enemies
-getting stuck in stuff
Theres quite a few more. Before anyone has a go at me, I love the game despite its flaws and understand not everyone gets the same issues on any given playthrough.
Yeah I had all these problems but the problem of getting stuck in the environment made my game unplayable...
The biggest problem for me was the English voice acting/dialog. Still a good game though.
I play the game in russian and the characters sound great

It's a good game but it dosent really feel like a metro game except for the cannibal level and the last level, I'd hope to see the future games return to metro artyom and the spartans got their happy ending now let's go see how the power vaccume affects the metro
Sooo... Metro 2033 (2010) is still the best metro.
Gota step on every pile of broken glass there is.
Well a lot of people love exodus
This is the one of the best Metros Mac whines more than reviews. The game is brilliant.
About the voice acting issue, i think this game benefits when you switch the language to russian and turn on the subtitles
I'm enjoying and savoring my Hardcore mode, it's spectacular fun.
welcome back! Hope you feel better now. Take it easy!
🙂 its a different genre, Metro is more for people that want more of a movie / walking simulator, its not COD buddy ☺️
@@Greybeard101 🙂 action adventure, yes thats what i prefer myself, thats probably why i like the metro trilogy, ive never seen dusk, yes it does look like quake but its like a survival horror campaign game, neat idea✌️😏
welcome back mack glad you are feeling better. Nice review as always buddy
Turn off the crosshair, HUD, and change the audio to Russian.
Glad to see the comments back up mate. Hope you're feeling better.
What are you on about man the graphic detail was superb.
@Moto andGivi ugh fallout... Rip :(
Yea the whole cutscene thing does take away from the immersion quite a bit.
If some one compare this console game , to Stalker Pc game , I would laugh on him !STALKER forever !@
Welcome back mack hope you feeling better !

Completely agree with you there
They are living in a post apocalyptic setting where every step they make and every new locations they discovered will always post unexpected dangers so why do you think they should address each other with those unneccessary cheesy name callings? Theres no time for rainbow and sunshines as their only concern is to survive using whatever they can find.
Great to have you back Mr Mackerson. Will look forward to watching this when I get home from work!
also a lot of crashes in directx 12
And the fps that can go from 150 to 50 ...
The AI is awfull indeed
The game was fun thow:)
And i have to say far cry new dawn is better
Lol no.
It was created on pc and then ported to console.
Almost every game I've tried using dx12 crashes lol
