- NFS Shift 2 Unleashed is one of the few racing games that can actively put you in the driver's seat no matter if you're in a 200hp track car or a proper racing machine. I always seem to replay this gem of a racing game every now and then and never get tired of the little details scattered across the game like the individual speedometers for each and every car in the game (esp noticeable in the chase cam) to the driver's heavy breathing after a collision, etc. I personally think Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed is a very underrated racing game despite the wonky handling model. Gonna be honest with you, Shift 2 was the only racing game that actually made me scared, even playing 3rd person. The speed, the camera shake, the sound, everything is so gritty you can feel it, and getting over 200km/h is actually fricking scary. Probably because of that, I could never get 1st place in any event in this game...

You're scared because of the input lag. This game has 2x the input lag of most other racing games. So at 200km/h, that 0.1 sec of additional input lag makes the car feel uncontrollable. That's why it feels scary to drive.

When I was younger I always had a wish that I could become a pro race car driver. Back in those years I always stood up all night to watch the 24 Hours of Le Mans, every year.
This game provided the perfect experience to get me close to that. It didnt matter that I was playing on my laptop with a Keyboard. The music, the cars, cutscenes, ambiance - they just pulled me in

the shift series is a perfect example for old racing games at least for me, it had it own and unique soundtrack that i still listen to it every now and then, a personality that made it really different than other racing games, while fm, gt and other racing games made racing look fun and enjoyable, the shift series showed the other dark side of racing, it's still the only game where i was scared going more than 250 km/h, it felt original, idk why but most racing games today look the same, this one is way different, I'll never forget this game

i love the style of this video, highlighting the words of the drivers, capturing what they ment with every word, the experience of being in the driver seat risking your life, Shift 2 Unleashed had every single damn detail.

shift 2 deserved better scariest sense of speed and most realistic helmet cam real cars and gladiator remix soundtracks are kicking in on menu an absolute masterpiece for me

who else thinks there should be a Shift 3? Especially in 2022 with the physics and graphics. I understand it questioned the directions of the game but this is the most underrated game in the series

I gotta say, the drifting on a wheel is really iffy. but actual racing? never felt such a good FFB on my ol' g27 before. The way the curbs felt, everything.

shift 2 the authentic racing game ever made
I honestly quite liked both this and Shift 1 because unlike HP2010, these games have customization and in depth tuning.

I loved this game growing up to the point that all the consoles listed for this game I have.
It birthed my love of time attack and Chris Rado as the reason my first car was a Scion TC.
Heck, the drift mechanic was a learning curve until I got a decent grasp and got comfortable sliding my s14, 350z, and rx8.
Would you think the drifting is realistic?
@IDKagoodname 04 Compared to others I've played before at the time, it performed more realistically. It teaches learning setups and a more balanced car was much better vehicle to learn from than high horsepower.
Unfortunatly I never played this game, because I was more into the underground racing, and escaping from the cops.. But now seeing this, makes me want to buy this game and play it. :D
they've taken it down unfortunately, you can only pirate it
If you want to play it, get yourself a good wheel then, cause keyboard won't isn't suitable for it and try assetto Corsa.
Shift is more about expression, it sends a message to remember, assetto gives you a taste of physics.
I got mine from a key seller last year. Key seller are in general really bad, but in that case the only option to get a regular key.

When the SHIFT series was released it was a dream come true for young me. I was growing up somewhere inbetween the infamous street racing and also used to watch a lot of racing series like DTM in TV as a kid. And then there was this title from my favorite videogame series going to a more sim direction and yet showcasing more of a feel to it than any other developer. Gran Turismo and FORZA were too unexciting and didn't have the right climate to me back then. SHIFT was the place where I wanted to be.
SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED was one of the most epic releases to me making a huge step forward from the first title which I already liked playing. There are so many things I didn't realize back then that were done so right like the collaboration with SPEEDHUNTERS, the different styles of drivers involved in development and the attention to detail [YES!! @SHDWSKII] which is in most aspects still unparalleled even by racing titles coming out right now; 11 years later.
NFS Shift 2 is the essence of input lag.

So much passion for motorsports, thrown to the trash bin thanks to a braindead fanbase that keeps asking for MW remake 20 years later. They killed BlackBox by rejecting every fresh concept they had (ProStreet and The Run). SlightlyMad studios' Shift series, etc. Now we have glorified cashgrabs that appeal to our Nostalgia to make a quick buck in online servers which will be shut down in about 5 years from now, as soon as EA isn't profiting from it anymore, and then say bye bye to your purchased MP exclusive crap and no refunds because you agreed to this, I doubt you will even be able to play NFS 2015 when this happens 😂😂😂
