What I love about Bowser's Fury is that we can finally use the power ups from the 2D games without any restriction.
They are an extension of Mario's abilities instead of being situational.

I wouldn’t say it’s the “best” 3D Mario, as it feels like a proof of concept of what a future 3D Mario *could* be instead of a full-fledged game, and so in that vein I’d say Odyssey is still triumphant. That being said, it’s still a great and wonderful time, and makes me entirely look forward to what the 3D Mario team has cooking next.

But when 3D Land came out it was a 2D styled Mario game but in 3D & with 3D elements. For me this is a full circle moment lol.

I think Odyssey beats it pretty easily (and not just because it’s longer), but it would be absolute foolishness to deny how good Bowser’s Fury is even though it didn’t even need to exist to get 3D World selling on Switch.
Also, 1:48 this does mean that it got to join the very exclusive “Added a new game in the Switch remaster” club with Xenoblade Definitive Edition.

I remember before playing the game I had heard about the complaints of fury bowser so when I played the game I was playing it normally until I was at the last few shines needed to get to 50 and fury bowser stopped disappearing after collecting a cat shine. I decided to go around the map and collect all the bowser block shines as I wouldn’t have to worry about bowser disappearing and got any other shines on the map. It was so fun to traverse the world with an extended Fury Bowser to collect as many shines as I could. Anyway, I loved this game and it was such a blast to play and complete. Great video.

    @-Jimini- Год назад +7

Okay so this is interesting, one of my small but noticeable criticisms of Bowser’s Fury was that you have to go outside of the area and come right back in to get a new shine. It was a small thing but it really started to annoy me. But, as you say, it never bothered you because you would get a shine then go to a completely different area to get a shine. And I just think it’s really interesting how that ends up being a fundamental difference in how the game feels. Like, for me, if I’m put into a level with a finite set of objectives, I get everything in that level to the best of my ability. That’s kind of why Bob-omb Battlefield has always slightly annoyed me, because it’s the first level in the game but it’s designed in a way where you’re supposed to not be able to do everything (out of defiance I get the cap stars without the cap). But at the same time, if you’re playing a game with a completely different mindset, I can see that not even crossing someone’s mind as an issue. I think that’s why Odyssey worked best for me, in having a finite set of moons for each world but not telling the player until after they beat the game, that feels a lot more freeform, even if you technically have to go to a map to see the stages. Idk, I just think that’s interesting.
Also it’s Meowser, get it right.

Bowser's Fury is such a weird game. A fun one no doubt, but definitely a weird one. It doesn't have enough content to feel like a full-fledged game, but it also feels a little too ambitious and different from 3D World to consider it as merely a companion piece to that game. Calling it a Frankenstein's monster is pretty accurate. Due to its status as an experimental mini-adventure, I can't consider it one of my favorite Mario platformers, but it is a great addition to package with the 3D World port and a successful possible proof-of-concept for 3D Mario's future.
I think my ideal 3D Mario game right now would be a game with the controls and lived-in world of Odyssey with a world structure that takes cues from Bowser's Fury. If they bring back power-ups for the sandbox formula, I think they should keep Mario's health meter from the other 3D Mario's rather than tying his health to the power-ups (though I'd still be okay with losing a power-up upon getting hit), as the large amount of power-ups you can carry to instantly restore yourself makes it really hard to die for almost the entire game. I'm totally fine with Mario games being easy to beat, but I do expect them to have some challenging optional/post-game content to chew on, and Bowser's Fury was lacking in that regard for me. Actually, the post-game exclusive shines in general were uninteresting to me from what I remember, which is why I've only 100%ed Bowser's Fury once despite how short it is.

Bowser’s Fury and Mario Galaxy 1 are my favorite 3D games in the whole series just because they are this happy marriage of linear and sandbox Mario.
One game goes for a cinematic, heartwarming and beautiful galactic style, featuring lovable new mainstay characters, the most innovative worlds we’ve ever seen in the series to date, along with the most story content in a Mario Platformer.
The other, uses 3D World’s ideas as a base, crafts and charming, lighthearted archipelago around them, and perfects the flawed gameplay loop of Mario Odyssey, making for a great template of what’s to come for Mario!
Easily the best games on their respective consoles.

Despite being based in 3D World's foundation and having an interconnected open world, I truly think Bowser's Fury recaptures the spirit of Super Mario 64. The level of freedom, the options you have on your disposal, that sense of wonder. The same way that I enjoy using Mario's maneuvers to get Power Stars in any order in Super Mario 64, I get the same feeling using Mario's power-ups to get Cat Shines throughout the world.

  • @fapuloes
    @fapuloes Год назад

What Bowser's Fury needed was a means to control the time and therefore the moments when Fury Bowser would awake (I mean there kinda is with the Amiibo, but it sucks to have that feature locked behind a paywall essentially), and what I'm saying by that is that the next 3D Mario should incorporate time mechanics akin to the 3 day system of Majora's Mask
Just imagine the level design and objectives changing being a part that can be actively controlled through a mechanic instead of just awkwardly waiting / leaving and reentering the level/area itself. Not only would that solve two of my major gripes with Bowser's Fury (Having to wait for/through Fury Bowser phases & constantly force-leaving an area just to get new missions appear), it would also open up so many new and creative design ideas that force you to think in more than just three dimensions.
Certainly that's not a new concept at all. Zelda has done that plenty of times now and even Mario 64 did dabble in similar ideas back in the day with tick tock clock or tiny huge island, though way less seamless.

I personally prefer the more moment to moment gameplay Odyssey has, the controls are much more fun to me, I prefer Odysseys health metre to the power ups, and overall Odysseys world and levels had a ton more character and charm to them… at least in my opinion. I felt luigi’s mansion 3 was better by virtue of the fact that it did everything it set out to do to near perfection (besides the backtracking, but we don’t talk about that) and I thought tears was a more ambitious game that was more impressive on a technical and gameplay level. I am no critic though so take what I say with a grain of salt lol

I think if it was full it would be better than Odyssey. I just like the formula more, and the combination with 3D World is cool since 3DW is my #1 3D Mario.

@@azenar1894 If you compare the first 3 Kingdoms to Bowser's Fury it becomes abundantly clear why Bowser's is more refined. Also most captures take away abilities from Mario but the power-ups in Bowser's Fury adds to his moves allowing for more controlled level design.

@@Stratilex I just don’t like it because it barely used anything from Mario. It just made Earth, everything was based on the real world. I would’ve preferred the actual Mario planet with Mario settings. Bean Bean Kingdom, Delfino, literally any of the locations shown in other mainline Mario games and RPG/M&L. We got to look at the planet in full in Mario Galaxy, and it is clearly not the same thing as Odyssey. To anyone who will say “it’s just a Mario game it’s not supposed to have a story/be connected/whatever,” my response is: To you, sure, but that is not MY Mario. It’s fine if you like it but it isn’t for me

I wouldn't exactly called Bowser's Fury an full and perfected 3D Mario game cause this feels like an prototype or an minigame rather than an full game. Regardless, I like where this is going. But I do have my complaints. The first one is that the missions are very repetitive. Whether your getting all the Blue Coins, chasing Shadow Luigi, beating the same old bosses we thought before or whatever. They need to make the missions alot more variety than just rense & repeat stuff. It's the same issue I have with other open sandbox/collecthon 3D Mario games like 64, Sunshine & especially Odyssey. I'm not an fan of the Fury Bowser gimmick. He just shows up whenever he feels like and u have to make him destroy an block that only him can break to get an shine and stuff. The enemies are so underwhelming. They took the enemies from 3D World and added there cat ears where they have no new abilities and do exactly the same attack pattern as in the ones in 3D World. That's lazy. And lastly, the game is super short. It's why I considered it an minigame cause it's just that. If it were an full length game, it would've been an new mainline Mario title. Despite all this, I liked the concept that this is going and if the next fully 3D Mario game does something like Bowser's Fury does but longer & better, than I'll be down with that. It's an nice distraction. But it's far from the best 3D Mario game. That honor goes to Galaxy 1 & 2 and I don't care what anyone says, but Super Mario 3D World as well.
