    1. Greet people, welcome them
    2. Inform what the group's about and what they'd gain from joining
    3. Always have something scheduled
    Nice video - well explained.

    Great advice! Especially #1. I had a volleyball meetup that started May of 2021 post-covid. It's incredible how much turnover there has been throughout the year. I'd say there's only 20% remain of the original group of about 30 regulars. If a group doesn't have turnover; there's a good chance the group will die, but you need maybe 3 or 4 "familiar" faces who show up regularly to make people feel at home. When you have a group, make sure to make it consistent, get input, and most of all HAVE FUN. You can also coordinate with other group organizers to make things interesting for the group.

    I have been co-running a meet-up group in Liverpool for nearly five years now and it’s been very active for a long time. Build a team of event organisers, make sure there is at least 2 events happening every week and people will attend. We have many regular members who have been coming for years. It’s more about putting the work in upfront and after a while it will go into auto pilot.

    Thanks for the useful advice! In Manchester I was due to meet up with a group visiting the Christmas Markets. But the organiser didn't decide where in the city to meet until 25 minutes before the start! She also said she hadn't checked out the area since last year. I live 9 miles away so I was never going to set off until I knew where I was going. Good thing it was free. But isn't simple organisation so difficult these days?

    Does anyone know about deleting a MeetUp member profile question in a MU group under "New Member Settings"? What happens to all the question answers for members who joined the group prior to the question deletion? Are they blown away? Also, if I add a new new member profile question, will it forward to all of the old members and prompt them to answer the new question(s)? Also, does anyone know why MeetUp makes it so hard to find the answers to these fundamentally basic questions? I have a 900+ MeetUp group that I'd like to edit in terms of the member profile question(s) and am clueless about the implications of that.

    Can a group organizer review new member joining request and reject them - without giving any reason?

    • @edhughes5794
      @edhughes5794 7 лет назад

      Disappointing nobody replied to this comment. . My hubby recently tried to join a group but surprisingly got a message stating the group has to review his request then never heard back from them. The group desciption said nothing of joining requires review nor did it specify the requirements for joining the group. When such review is allowed and in such fashion, MeetUp is sending out message that as long as people pay us, they can do whatever they want. My general impression about MeetUp is it's fallen into the "old-and-established" company cliché that's so commercialized it was no longer the MeetUp it was when it first started. It's like another Plentyoffish in online dating or McDonald's in fast food. Money changes people.

    • @gord2358
      @gord2358 5 лет назад +1

      @@edhughes5794 Yes, it's frustrating when you're rejected without a reason. It could be that you are too far away or maybe the group has reached it's membership limit. Having said that, an organizer should take the time to give a reason.

What's the best way to go about this matter. Shall I start the meet up and make an announcement on the page that it will not start until August? I thought of starting it before anybody else chose the topic. Your advice on this matter? Thank you very much.

    I'm frustrated with the new meet up design because I am trying to post an event activity for someone else and I cannot take my name off as host. I want to put someone else as host. This new feature is frustrating a lot of people and I know two Meetups that closed because they hated the new design and especially that feature and went to Facebook instead.

How can I find that and once I do, will they be able to tell me the best way to get things started? I would like to hear from you if you have any suggestions because I am really new to this area and do not know a lot of people down here in Florida and I am in Network Marketing. This is why I want to start a group. Please advise. Thank you.

    Hi, I am new to being a meetup organiser, is there a way to add a second host to the group, as opposed to replacing me as the organiser? i.e. so that they will be co-hosting an event with me. I couldn't find a way to do that. Thanks

    • @MsDonna
      @MsDonna 4 года назад

      yes, you can add add a co-host to a specific event, without making them co-organizer of the entire group. when you're creating the event, there's an option for you to select co-hosts. when the event is published, they will appear on the event as co-hosts along with you.

    I would be interested to know how to stop people declining attendance at a meetup event when they did not originally RSVP 'yes' join the meetup event. People have great difficulty in understanding that they need to manage their 'Group Notifications'.
    In detail, I suggest meetup disallows immediate 'No'/ 'Not Going'. Make it so that people can only change a 'Yes'/'Going' to a 'No'/'Not Going'.
    I believe that unnecessary 'No'/'Not Going' leads to a decrease in the number of people attending a meetup, especially if you are not one of the overlarge (early starter) meetups where people turn up just because of the number of people attending, rather than the quality of an event.
    It would be useful for Meetup.com to make a video on individuals managing their 'Group Notifications' and the 'misuse' of RSVPs.
    Many thanks!

    The issue with Meetup's is that it tends to attact low achieving "entrepenuers" who basically want to co-op the organizers good will and pay virtually nothing. Eventully, meetup's have to acheive some financial success for the organizer. I did over 60 meetup's some on yatchs and great venues with free or near free food they were great successes for everyone but me. The whole "pay it forward" usually doesn't work. There are givers and takers in this world and I found there are way too many takers. I wouldn't recommend anyone get involved with meetup's as a business strategy.

      Totally understand.. I have been organising a meetup for nearly 4 years playing golf, which I love, but as a real estate agent no one has given me any business.
      I collect a small contribution towards the cost, but it doesn't cover my costs. I also negotiate golf vouchers (9 or 18 holes) that I give away to the group every week from $100 to $250 and sometimes more.
      Due to the lack of financial support, I'm now looking alternative ways to make up costs as I have now got a decent database.. so time to do some affiliate marketing with Golf.
