Please note, since I competed in this match there have been some new match rules added to the website for 2024. One new rule is that all netted fish must be transferred to the keepnet via the landing net. Bread is also now only allowed between November and March. There are so many positive developments going on at the fishery, so to keep up to date with what's going on visit: www.makinsfishery.co.uk/ 🙂
After watching your video I can understand why they have introduced some new rules as the fishery looks great and they want to look after the stock of fish they have which is a good thing. I just wish I lived up that way so I could go to makins and some of the other great fisheries around your way but I live too far away down here on the border of east London and Essex
Always wise to check the website before going
I’m only half way through on the big screen, but you’re just an amazing fisherman and filmmaker.
Aww thanks. Cheque's in the post! :-)
Love seeing the young anglers doing well. Good information 👍 Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it Ralph
Hard day John !well done the young un!💪🎣🎣
Thanks Wayne, yep great to see
Great video Jon and good match very enjoyable. Have great week 😊
You too, hope its warmer there!
Thanks John, have been caught out on one of my local venues with a couple of anglers on hard pellet bagging up
Yep certain venues it'll work year round, I just felt soft pellet might be better with the skimmers also a target, but lesson learnt for next time!
I am going to show my age now! I used to fish with the Billy Makin Canal Grey wagglers back in the day (yes even before anyone used poles) when slop and squatt was the way on canals!
Great video Jon, I really love listening to you talk about your thoughts as the match progressed. I think you should have won a prize for the ugliest Carp, that one you foul hooked was a bit of a munter lol.
I've caught uglier ha ha! I have actually got some new canal wagglers but been waiting forever for the weather to improve to use them...
Amazing video as always mate keep it up one or if not the best RUclips content you can watch!!!!
Wow, thanks!
Nice video again Jon👍Great job👌Looking forward to the next one 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done jon really enjoyed film.
Thanks Terry!
Great video Jon and a great lesson in scratching for fish, keep them coming mate, I always look forward to your videos
Appreciate that thanks
As always a cracking educational video! No chocolate? 😂😂
Unfortunately not. Times are hard, ha ha!
@@JonArthur I'll have to get some money to give you another super thanks then Jon 👍😂
Loving the new graphics Jon, awesome stuff 👍👍👍
Many thanks, nice to stay a bit creative :-)
Cracking video again Jon thanks 🙌
🙌
Well done Jon, not a win for a change lol, and yes it does look a very nice place to fish, Thank you Jon,
Lovely venue and will be awesome this summer 👍
Fished it last week JA. Andy Pell and the team have done a great job. Another great video albeit i could have done with you putting this out before my match😂
Oh bother! I see a new Derwent is reopening now too
@@JonArthur and i have a match on there shortly after it reopens. Great videos JA, full of info and worth every penny of our subscription. Keep it up.👊
Another great video buddy informative and fun I will be honest, I base a lot of my lesuire fishing on the hints and tips and most if not all have given great results
So glad to hear it :-)
Enjoyed this 🎣 thanks
No problem 👍
Jamie Harrison did films of the revamp of phase 3,after all the effort of netting and stocking the big skimmers we fished one of the first matches and it was tough ,but it wasn't full of nuisance fish,I guess they have put the original fish back in now.Unlucky Sunday on the draw again hopefully next year you'll bag the 10,000! I had to shoot off after weighing in deeps but see you around hopefully before next winters qualifying starts
Nice one mate. Had a good day, albeit a tad fresh and windy!
Given the constant change in weather I think you done really well Jon and wasn't nice to see a young do well glad he won his section
Absolutely, great to see youngsters doing so well (hope you meant 'was' and not 'wasn't' ha ha!)
@JonArthur lol Jon I ment wasn't it nice to see a young lad doing well I got big thumbs that get me into trouble sometimes lol
Very enjoyable video thanks for that Rich Ely UK.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great content as always hope you and family are well
Great video as always Jon boy
Cheers John 👍👍🐟🐟
See you at tunnel in September if your there again
I qualified for the masters off that peg , when its hard it responds well to a little plug of groundbait every chuck with dead reds on the hook at 16 meters, the skimmers you get mixed in are bigger than the average stamp of carp 🎣
Cheers Darren, yes I was surprised how good the skimmers were and definitely need to be considered. They'll have a bit of meat in summer I reckon.
Hi John. Can I ask what was the top kit roost set up to your right you had going on there. Cheers buddy. 🎣👍🏻
It's a Matrix bait brolly arm with a 36mm leg extender and a Matrix 12-Kit threaded roost. I generally prefer my kits to the right if the peg allows it, as my landing net is the other side.
Thanks John. I’ll look at getting one. Any chance you can send me a link so I know exactly which one it is buddy. 👍🏻

Great video as always jon. Well done on catching what you did Jon considering the weather conditions and how it was the first time you had fished the lake since making had altered it, maybe next time you go there it will fish better for you, in matches what does dnw mean as I've seen it on match results before but never knew what it meant. Sorry by the way that you got disturbed by another angler part way through the match when he was inconsiderate and walked on the gravel path right behind you instead of showing some consideration by walking on the grass like most experienced anglers would of done
DNW means the angler did not weigh at the end of the match. They either didn't catch anything or they put back what they had caught because they weren't in the frame. Hope that helps
Dnw- Did not weigh in. It means they didn't catch much and won't even win a section, so they don't bother weighing in.
Did not weigh
DNW = did not weigh. DNF means did not fish.
@@JonArthur ah ok thanks jon
Interesting to see all the anti- Otter fencing.
Yes it's a sad reality that every commercial fishery now needs it. I think the public would be so surprised if they knew how widespread otters now are.
I know its a summer bait but I would have given paste a go as the bream luv it.
I tend to start paste fishing from late spring, but yes Im sure you'd catch a few on it al through the year and a lot of top match anglers discount it
@JonArthur eems the way doesn't it, I never rule it out as still catching good bream on it now.
great video as always, what landing net handle do you use
Cheers it's the two-piece Matrix Ethos XR Power 3.5m Landing Net handle. Mega stiff and strong!
Dobrze by było widzieć upływający czas zawodów gdzieś w rogu ekranu . Było by widać jak zmieniasz linie łowienia z biegiem czasu . Film jak zawsze świetny .Pozdrawiam
It would be good but impractical Im afraid as it would require over 10 hours of continuous filming and a time signature and increase the editing time considerably, when it already takes 2-3 days per film!
Worked hard for that Jon. There was even a squeaky bum here with that foul hooked carp. Not a stick in sight
No sticks I know! Gotta be a first!
Gotta love a Gudgeon, much prettier than a Carp
We all love Gary the gudgeon!
Looking to get on the guru festival in April, after reading the rules I see you was putting netted fish in the keep net by hand. Guessing this rule is not enforced ?
Hi Nathan, thanks for bringing that new rule to my attention. I have just spoken to the fishery manager and it's a new rule most people aren't aware of that has been recently introduced to protect some of the newly stocked fish. At the time of the match it wasn't common knowledge, so he's totally fine that I did it on this occasion, but the website is all up to date now and moving forward I am sure it will be implemented. I've only ever known a couple of other venues with the rule, so it's not something most of us would commonly do unless we're told to by match organisers. Best of luck in the Festival. Really wanted to fish that but have a rather congested calendar!
Thanks for the reply Jon was unsure as I've never been before, thought I'd ask as seen a few of your videos on there. I'll have to remind my self with this rule as you say it's not very common. What sort of quantity's of maggots would I be looking to take in April please ?
Id take 1 to 2 pints of dead mags for the edges, but by then I think pellets will be the main feed in open water. Maybe even meat.
👍
👍👍
Well fished Jon. I recall you mentioned dobbing bread at the beginning. The couple of lost fish didnt help you unfortunately. Regarding the guy casually walking past is something that is very disrespectful and unhelpful. Usual good commentary and unlucky. Cheers
Thanks Peter, must try harder next time!
Sorry Jon, I really do appreciate your videos but this looks like the most sh.te of moonscape venues ever. Target markers for your peg! What next? Zip wires from your peg to attach your method feeder to and all you have to do is decide what distance to release it at? FFS lets get rid of all these crap [carp] venues!
Each to their own but after spending a month wallowing through mud at some venues with platforms underwater, trolleys being impossible to push, huge pot holes and stranded vehicles needing a gang to push them out I really appreciate the time, money and effort that's gone in to making a comfortable and stress-free lakeside experience! :-)
