Seeing a video about this topic that doesn't boil down to "game bad, so it failed" and nothing else brings me so much joy and relief, especially with all the actual points brought up here being so accurate and constructive. Excellent job!
It's a game that gets better on replays. For example - annoying crushers in Press Factory stop crushing you once you know to use Water, bosses are cheesable if you use your powers right, lack of checkpoints between phases stop being a problem if you don't die etc. I played it enough that at this point I'd rather play it over Mania.
Please tell me I'm not the only one sick and tired of the phrase "If you like (Insert series here), you'll like (Insert something from said series here)"? Maybe it's because I absolutely loathe whenever someone is speaking for me, but I've never been ok with that phrase. Being honest, I've never liked any of the Classic games I played (and yes, 3&K and Mania are some of them). There was a time I legitimately felt New Super Mario was better than Classic Sonic. Then the more I played the more I realized that I pretty much have similar issues with both. Now I don't even know which I prefer, not that it matters, I prefer to keep my distance from both. Anyways, to get back on topic, I've always had my sights on things like Unleashed, Black Knight, Rise of Lyric, Lost World, etc. I would also like to try the Advance games one day. The Classics though? Yeah, that's not where I'm at.
Ye, but frontiers and god of war are in two completely different genres, superstars went up against super Mario bros wonder, the best 2d Mario in years, and in the same genre, superstars was dead the second the June Nintendo direct ended
I preordered the game and as a Sonic fan, it’s a great game for Classic Sonic. I have a 7 hour recording on my computer from just playing the main story as sonic himself
Haven't fully watched the video yet, but I will say that even though Superstars failed to meet expectations, that doesn't inheritly mean it was a failure. If I recall correctly, the game had managed to sell over 2 million copies, and was actually the best performing game out of Sega's 3rd quarter last year.
Sonic superstars in my opinion is an 8.1 because it gave us new zones. While the bosses were hard especially cyber station and 2-4 players playing together was chaotic. It’s still good then forces and lost world. But I do respect your opinions on superstars
you can enjoy the game as much as you want, but the game is completely mediocre in most aspects, the bosses are some of the worst bosses in the entire series, the story is poorly explained, the 3 final bosses are just a mistake, all 3 of them suck, the emerald powers are poorly thought, the game has too many bugs and glitches that many people can find without looking for them, the music is also mediocre and the sound design sucks in many moments, collectables are useless, the online mode died immediately and was even more unpolished than the normal game, and the pacing is abysmal, the new zones are also, outside of some exceptions, pretty forgettable or bland. The game is not an 8 out of 10 in any way, the game doesn't deserve being 60 dollars like games like many other much better and longer games, the game does a lot wrong compared to what it does right, it deserves a 6. I played the game and enjoyed some of it, but I remember the frustration of many boss fights and pacing destructions, and I played Mario Wonder in the same period, they are nowhere near comparable, Mario was an actual blast to play from the beginning to the very end, Sonic gave me the same amount of gratification maybe 2 times in the whole playthrough. Like the game as you want, subjective thoughts are indeed subjective, but the game isn't that good.

I really appreciate this comment and made me smile thank you so much!
But there was an accolades trailer of Superstars
But I like sonic superstars :(
Superstars is still a good game 😉

Bruh, I straight up didn't know this released 💀
Sonic Frontiers released one day before GOW Ragnarok and it still sold +3.5 million units... I think Superstars is not interesting enough.

@@jackhumphries1087 Good point. But I still think that has smth to do with how interesting is the game to the people.

PS. “Sonic superstars was in Circana’s top 20 December, US sales chart” which means the game did succeed

Ya i’ll agree with you that the $60 price tag was not good, however I still found it kinda good. But I do respect your opinion on it
PS I meant the game was good not the $60 price tag, the game is more of an $40 at best.
How do you calculate the .1 of your 8.1. What pushes superstars from an 8 to an 8.1
Super stars is a great game! but the multiplayer would have been better if it was split screen
Take a shot every time he says "truly". 😏
Seriously though, decent analysis.
I’d be passed out in the front yard 😂 but glad you enjoyed the video it “truly” means a lot 😉

Superstars Is Better Than Mario Wonder
It's a fine enough experience, but again, Mania is better.
However, playable Amy is a god sent
Sonic fans hate Sonic, but they're eating better than Zelda fans lmao
I LOVE REPETITIVE AND BLOATED OPEN WORLD TORTURE IT'S SO FUN NINTENDO :)))
You are pathetic
The worst Zelda game is better than the best Sonic game 😊
@@TiayolandaofficialVEVO you've clearly never been to Rooftop Run manlet
@@Kitty255Again Sonic is garbage
@@TiayolandaofficialVEVO clearly you've never been to Mirage Saloon
It failed to meet Sega's financial expectations, so yes, it is a failure by definition.
Probably would've helped if the game been more than mediocre.
Hey gully and sonic super stars did fail
It sold 2 million copies in 3 months it sold better than lost world at least
No, it didn't
the sonic fanbase will never be satisfied
Sonic Superstars is a good and very fun 2d sonic game but noo...
Since It's Classic Sonic means bad
If you hated the game just keep it to yourself 😂
Super stars is a great game! but the multiplayer would have been better if it was split screen
