Lenovo has an issue o Thinkpads with USB-C charger. They fixed it with a BIOS update. But if you don't do the BIOS update, the charger shorts the motherboard, aka the chipset. We have a lot of those laptops with that issue at the shop I work at. And most people don't know about that. It's stupid.

Wasn't it specifically the Thinkpads with Thunderbolt firmware? You'd had to install the newer firmware to make it stop this self destructive behavior like they had with the old bad firmware. It basically killed the EEPROM for the controllers. I own a T480s which also suffered with this kinda thing. Luckily I had experienced this with a customers computer so the very first thing I did was flashing the Thunderbolt firmware for my specific model. This only apply to models that actually had thunderbolt though.

Hi Sorin, I remember in another video you said when the battery is faulty, some laptops nowadays are not coming on even with the power supply.
Do you know which make or model that applies to?
Because I have two HP Elitebook x360 830 G6 that both turned off while working in Windows and they are not turning on anymore.
Just the capslock key is lighting up, I think.
Maybe they need a new battery?

Dell and Lenovo. In that order, that's how this started for me. I don't know how to work with devices I don't know under pressure (time and/or customer pressure), so I personally went to auctions for damaged laptops and bought several of these two brands. With the passage of time and with a thermal camera: Chipset, GPU, CPU running hottest? Ugh.
Another way to say it: Can you check my drone? Sorry, NO at the moment (an answer that the client will not like but is unchanged at this time).
PS: Motherboards used or second-hand, e-Bay? Amazon? Well, we all think differently, my workshop cannot depend only on fixing laptops.

you literally never learn from your mistakes. If you are so lazy to take the board out fully, at least unscrew its holding screws so that the board is not being under stress when you put in that thermal pad. What if the laptop was working but your shoddy soldering job caused the usb data pins to short with power/ground/together? That can easily cause the bahaviour we see in the video - broken PCH, as the usb ports are handled by the pch chipset. If you had spent 5 more minutes to remove the board you could've spotted if there were any shorts in the area you worked on.
Also, PCH's should never be pasted with thermal paste, that is common knowledge, that the PCH operates at lower temperature than the cpu, and putting thermal paste on it bridges the pch to a heatsink that is hotter, thus heating it up, which may result negatively in the long-term usage. This is basic knowledge for all intel platforms since gen 4. Also you should've measured the chokes/coils before your repair - if the shorted usb lines killed the pch, we could at least rule out other possibilities of failure.
