Nice overview of Haleakala. A gentle note, the first 'a' in Haleakala is short rather than long. So pronounced more like 'hah' 'ley' 'ah' 'kah' 'lah.' Hale means house, so house of the sun.
@@WanderingWagars No worries, I lived on O'ahu during 60s and early 70s, which was a great way to learn pronunciation. A bit rusty now, but improve whenever I go back for a visit.
@@WanderingWagars It was. Very undeveloped and low key with more pineapple and sugarcane fields than hotels or housing tracts. My parent's first place overlooked Pearl Harbor, which was a less than a five minute stroll from our back Lanai. Our second place backed on a lagoon. As a kid it was heaven.
What a crazy drive! I would have been nervous. This is beautiful. I visited the one on the Big Island that you mentioned and it is definitely different. I have to go back to HawaiI! Thank you for the beautiful video and information. Your narration is so clear and informative!
How hard would you say this hike is? I was asking because I have parents who are over age 60 so just wondering if it would be paved enough for them to walk it
@@Manosh0 Wai’anapanapa State Park has some beautiful trails. It’s up past the end of the Hana Highway. The Le Perouse Bay Trails near Kihei and Waimea are also some nice scenic coastal trails.
Parking wasn’t a problem at all. I have heard that it’s tougher for those coming for sunrise, but access to that is limited to ticket holders now so I would imagine that they have that under control.

Mahalo for featuring our HPPA visitor center park staff in your video. How proud your Junior Rangers were. :)
Your staff was amazing! Your park is beautiful. You must be very proud.

There’s no doubt that Kilauea on the Big Island is bigger, badder and more beautiful. But I’ll take any chance I can get to rise above the clouds!
What an awesome view! I like how you say Haleakala
Hahaha, yes, I’ve been told that my Hawaiian pronounciation could use a little work 😬

It’s a strenuous hike due to the altitude, however the actual hike isn’t technically challenging.
@@WanderingWagars got it. What are some easy friendly families hikes that you would suggest?
