I got my hair done a month ago. Before them, it had been almost 10 years since I’ve been to a hair stylist. Since I’ve became natural, I’ve always been hesitant of someone messing my hair up.
Told the stylist this. I know for a fact my ends weren’t that bad. I regularly trim my hairs and sometimes let my mom and sister do it. The stylist showed me what she wanted to cut, I told her less than that. I agreed to 2 inches being cut , because that’s what I was comfortable with. She ended up cutting way more than what she originally told me . She also didn’t cut my hair even. The left side is noticeably shorter than the right.
It’s all about consent at the end of the day.
I have never, ever had a stylist show me a “before” image of my hair or even let me see it in the mirror before cutting or trimming. 😢 I flat iron my hair (once every year or two) at home now. I trim the interior of my hair one piece at a time as I go along. When I’m finished straightening, I cut curtain bangs. Lastly, my daughter cuts it straight across in back. She takes a photo first, then I show her where I want it cut, and she takes a photo afterwards. She uses an expensive pair of hair shears her barber friend gave her. 💜
I don’t believe that all hairstylists are scissor. Most consult their client of what needs to go & they refuse to let go of the dead hair. Some of u guys do not realize that u have 4 to 5 inches of split ends or just dead hair alone. Just bc u have length doesn’t mean it’s all healthy.

The thing is when stylist goes chopping off more than what the client asked for that can be very nerve racking for a lot of people. And it could scare someone from not wanting to go back to the salon until way passed their trim date because they feel as though the next stylist is going to trim off more than they want again. If the customer is the one paying, then stylist need to respect their customer's wishes because that builds trust and repeat salon goers.

New to your channel! Same hair length and I did my first ever at home blowout/trim today. I'm not skilled enough to press it out, do a baseline cut or go into the hair, so I stopped at the blowout. I just did some flat twists on both sides to "kind of" have some consistency, then loosened one at a time and cut! Hope I did ok but I'm definitely subscribing for future advice. You did a great job.

Hello! Thank you for sharing! My hair currently has multi layers and shorter strands. I want my hair to grow into one length. I believe in trims but how do I trim it in a way that will allow the shorter pieces to catch up?

Nobody has ever showed me or communicated with me about a trim. They just ask me if i want one or tell me i need one.

I do the white towel so they can see. I let them tell me exactly where to cut and I cut a little bit below and use it as my guide.
I was so upset when my daughter had me shave the sides of her hair. She was paying so I had to do it. 😩😩😩 I was traumatized. Plus she would have snitched to my husband.
If you have to wear a glove that means the dryer is too hot and should not be used on someone's hair
