    Both amps sound great. Thanks for such a deep dive into the metal tones of both.. you deserve so many more views. Killer job. Looking forward to buying one, likely the JP2C.. I own a JVM410H and always wanted a Mesa as well. Thanks man !!

    Nice video and playing! Great comparison on these 2 head to head. I think the mkV seems a little bit clearer but also thinner vs jp which sounds fuller and more aggressive overall. JP was a little muffled in comparison in the mix but definitely not getting lost. To me it sounds like the bass and lower mids on the jp are just stronger and maybe that’s what I was hearing. Definitely agree that the jp sounds thicker and richer especially in isolation. Lead sounded more fluid and vocal on jp but still was good on mkv. I feel like jp would be a more forgiving amp and i imagine it does feel better to play. Thanks again for great content!

    Before you decide to kick her to the curb, try it out with the effects loop bypassed. It bypasses the effects loop, output knob, and solo knob. If you dig the sound, turn the amp off > turn effects loop toggle back on> turn down all channel volumes> max out output volume and solo volume> turn amp back on with solo switch engaged> and use the channel volumes as you would an EVH. Sounds better. Dunno if you will like it more than JP2C, but I think it sounds better this way. thanks

    Wow! Huge difference!

  • @jb_50w78
    @jb_50w78 2 года назад +5

    The JP2C sounds huge here, but the Mark V is brighter and clearer (the clarity is definitely from the brightness). I think you probably could dial in more brightness on the JP2C.
    The difference with the JP2C is that it is an authentic re-issue of the Mark IIC+, and the most important part of that is the massive transformer it has which is the original part. That huge transformer is what makes it sound so huge and it also makes the amp really tight and handle low end very well. The huge transformer gives it a short transient response which makes the amp tight. That also makes it really responsive to your playing. You can make the JP2C sound like the Mark V, but you can’t get the Mark V to match the JP2C exactly in terms of feel and sound because of the transformer.
    Given the transformer and also all the extra features like two graphic EQs, shred mode, and midi, I think the JP2C is a better package. But the Mark V does have a lot of flexibility given all the modes. But I think JP2C can be versatile too. That’s just what I think. I definitely would like to get a JP2C.
    Also, really amazing playing on the solo with the purple majesty!

    I'm just wondering what's your favorite version of the treadplate dual/triple rectifier series. I know you've had a roadster, but I'm contemplating getting either a two channel Rev G or a multi-watt brand new. I don't have much experience between them but with the few experiences I've had there seems to be more mojo with certain models. I've tried older 2 & 3 channel ones but not the multi-watt. it would be great if you could get your hands on the newer Rectos & demo them because no one reviews/ demos amp more thoroughly than you. Keep up the good work, your channel should sky rocket with the quality of your content! Thank you!

      Very sorry for the late reply. I've been slammed with work. Thank you so much for the kind words. To your question...As far as the treadplate amps go, I've only played the Roadster and the Triple Rec .
      IMHO the JP-2C is the best Mesa. I'd highly recommend that one

    Ive played through both.
    The V90 sounds more bright, cold and shrill
    The JP2C sounds warmer and much darker (which I like) and is much more saturated.
    Only thing is that the JP2C can sound quite muffled like a blanket over the speaker.

  • @Bognerman14

    I thought you liked the Mark V 25?
    Arent they the same other than Wattage and the extra channel and modes?
    It's funny because I played all.of these amps but love the MkV 90 so much for modern metal and leads especially. Just like the video you did of the 25 watt head for leads. I get that with the 90 on MkIV mode.
    At our rehearsals, I've been told the Mark V is too dark at times. I find it brighter at home, but it's easy to dial out and darken it. I do hate 6L6 tubes in it however. Gotta use JJ 6CA7 tubes. I get really dark, thick and rich tones at rehearsal and iv rushed the JP as well. I just got more of what I wanted out of the MkV. It's interesting since listening to you play and talk, we have some similar tastes. Interesting...
    You found the opposite of me. We all experience things differently. :)

    I think a true JP signature head would have been channel one the way it is but Channel two the Mark 2C+ and Channel 3 the Mark 4 voicings. Now if Mesa would only develop a JH Mark 2C++.

      well now that Kirk Hammett has signed onto Gibson as an artist and Gibson bought Mesa, we may very well get a Metallica signature version of the legendary IIC+ amp. That would be glorious!

    What is the opening riff? I really dig that. Cool comparison too. I liked the JP-2C in the mix better, but the V-90 in isolation. Weird, but the JP sounded full in the mix and muffled in iso, whereas the 90 sounded thin in the mix and fuller in iso. I’ll have to listen on the monitors later tonight to get a better idea of how they actually are sounding. PS, the song selections and playing was killer.

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  2 года назад +3

      Thank you! That opening riff is a new mix I'm working on for you guys. There will be a solo as well as soon as I get it finished.
      Listening back, I could have cleaned up some of the frequencies in the JP a little differently as well. I just dial it in that way because it's really full and rich and a mix. I wanted to keep the settings consistent so that it was a fair comparison. That said, after listening back to the video, I'm going to slightly change the settings on the JP little bit to add some clarity and bring out a little bit more top end

      In the video I did not hear you try out the clean channels. Does the jp-2c sound better for cleans? I know themark v has more modes per channel so it's obviously more versatile but can you get all those different sounds from the jp-2c also by tweaking the knobs and the EQ? I was about to buy either a mark v 35 or a mark 90 . I don't play in a band so I want it for home use . Do you think the Jp-2c will work or are the mark 5s a better option due to thev10 watt option? Thanks

    Listening on 3" Genelecs and the Mark V is slaying the JP2C. JP2C sounds muffled in comparison for the rhythm mixes, not as stark of a difference in the lead mix section but still a little noticeable. Cheers!

      Thanks for commenting. Is in the room, the JP was much easier on the ears for sure.Is the MKV was so bright it made my ears bleed.
      That said, I could definitely dial in the JP to be much brighter but I just felt that I wanted to stick with the settings that I've always used with it to be fair in this comparison.
      Honestly, I could get the JP to sound exactly like the mark 5 except it would have more aggression and saturation and texture.

    I'm going to give you a FAIL for your conclusion...the difference that you gave to the JP2C when you so artfully pronounced it SLEW the Mark V is nothing more than the EQ section.and that is EASILY remedied with an outboard EQ (I can match the tone you got with my Mark V...I do use a 'nice' outboard EQ...I use a 31 band but hit the cardinal frequencies and fill in...the eq on the Mark V IS a little limited compared to some of the other EQ's I have used (the one on the Studio Pre I used to have was a lot better than the one I have on the Mark V I currently own) I use a stereo 31 band and wire the channels in series then put it in the loop so I get to choose from one of three EQ profiles(four if you count the preset on the Mark V but mine sound particularly grating in the mids so I never use it) with the GEQ and one on each of the stereo channels of the EQ...but basically do the classic V on the GEQ with one of my others being a mid pushed tone and the last being a refinement of the V from the GEQ that sounds a bit more like the tone you were getting on the JP2C...it IS a good sound..but you can get it like I said...with an outboard EQ. (in my opinion the lower mid and upper mid slider on the Mark V are just a touch off and better in the JP2C). The Mark V is a TONE monster that takes YEARS to properly appreciate, and Extreme mode is so TOTALLY underrated, negative feedback removed is undersold and man, can you get some really screaming leads out of it...I love the soun d of the JP2C...killer amp..but slew the V...not really..just different
