I personally like this better than the original because of the level of skill and length given to each โshow offโ portion. Really makes it feel like a contest.
Throughout this whole cover, I was sort of thinking "what is the point of this cover?", and then it got to Johnny's part, and I was like "Oh." It turns out that what this song was missing was someone cutting the frick loose on a fiddle.
Iโm certainly with you, but i would even say itโs the best interpretation i ever heard of this song!! I donโt know what Lindsey Sterling or Vanessa Mae would make out of it, but itโs way better than the original!
In my opinion, Johnny's music part is always weak in comparsion with the Devilยดs one.
For the first time i find a worthy Johnny's come back, absolutely beautiful, more powerful and awesome than the devil's skills, and that, my friends, it's utterly amazing.
Johnnys part sounds weak until you learn how easy the devils part is to play. It doesnโt really require much precision.

True. I have heard a few covers where the musicians extend Johnny's part to give a real reason why he's the best. Even Charlie did a few extended versions (that were epic enough to break strings!) at live concerts to get crowd going. This is definitely worthy of being that category of awesome.

This was a stellar cover! That "Johnny" solo was great, and lasted much longer than other covers (besides the Steve Ouimette version). It really gives the character of Johnny a great comeback towards the Devil playing his part.
