  • This film shows why it’s vitally important that everyone learns first aid. St John Ambulance has thousands of volunteers, yet it’s impossible for them to be there all the time. You can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
    To see how to save the boy in this film, visit: www.sja.org.uk/savetheboy
    #savetheboy
    We believe that it’s absolutely unacceptable that so many people die needlessly - because no one could give them first aid when they needed it.
    St John Ambulance teaches people first aid - about 800,000 last year alone - so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
    As a charity, we’re committed to making sure more people can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. To do that, we need your help.

    I just rediscovered this ad, that I watched ten years ago. It convinced me to go and do first aid. Well, actually, seeing someone collapse in a supermarket a few weeks earlier, really made me uneasy, and then this appeared on my RUclips feed and it was the final straw. I did a course with the Red Cross, and loved it. Whilst I never needed to use the skills, it pointed me in the direction of medicine, and now I'm a doctor. It's a good ad, thats what I'm saying.

    Hi Justin, Up to 140,000 die each year when first aid could have saved them. We want people to realise that first aid is not just about putting on a plaster, it's about life and death. Through our ad we hope to raise awareness of basic life saving skills to prevent more needless deaths.

    Such a powerful advert, In my opinion I think schools should make students take classes like these. I mean It is such a good tool to have, I mean first aid and all that, It can really save so many life's. I'm 16 and I volunteered to st john ambulance service. As an EMT with the ambulance service I would advise NOT to place in the recovery position as there is a high risk of spinal injury. You can quite easily maintain an airway by tilting the head, keeping it in line with the body. For those people who have said you can live with a broken back - you can kill someone with a spinal injury by moving them depending on where the injury has occured.

    • @jackthomas9051
      @jackthomas9051 7 лет назад +1

      Garlic Bread well first you got to check for danger. Like broken glass or cars or any hazards that will do harm to you or to the boy. Second. See if there is a response such as blinking, moving or ask them to talk. If there not responding. Shout for help.
      Then you check there airway to see if there's anything blocking it.
      Then check for breathing. If he's breathing. Put them into a recovery position and if there not breathing. CPR. 30 compressions and 2 breaths. If they had a heart attack or any thing else. But if some one has drowned. You do 5 breathes instead

    • @christianuy5791
      @christianuy5791 6 лет назад

      No cpr only in pulses patients. Just because someone isn't breathing correctly and is unconscious doesn't mean you do cpr. Also although he is a pediatric cpr would still be 30 compressions to 2 breaths. But because people many a times mess up the breaths, AHA just recommends quality continuous chest compression. Compressions are more important than breaths when it comes down to choosing between both in a true cardiac arrest for a lay man response.

    I'm pretty sure there isn't a great deal of first aid in that type of situation? You can't move someone that has fallen from such a height, so what, maybe CPR until the ambulance turns up?

    • @SpartanB257
      @SpartanB257 8 лет назад +6

      +Adam657 The airway takes priority over any potential spinal injuries. In this case with an unconscious casualty the first thing to do would be to determine whether he was breathing or not. If he was then you would use a jaw thrust manoeuvre to open up his airway whilst still maintaining c-spine immobilisation. If he wasn't breathing then you would call for help or an ambulance and then begin CPR.

      The storyline indicates that the two are divorced. He was always depending on his wife's knowledge, yet now she's in her own home, didn't know why he hung up, but runs to the laundry.
      Meanwhile he's miles away, screaming for help. You shouldn't trust other people to know first aid, you need to learn it yourself.

      @@Widdekuu91 The two aren't divorced. The woman just couldn't come to the kid's aid because she can't be there every time.

    In the UK if you dial 999 you will never be asked to place a patient in the recovery position!! If a patient is unconscious, they are placed on their back and their head should be tilted back to maintain the airway. If the patient vomits while less awake then, and only then should they be turned on their side.
