- This film shows why it’s vitally important that everyone learns first aid. St John Ambulance has thousands of volunteers, yet it’s impossible for them to be there all the time. You can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
To see how to save the boy in this film, visit: www.sja.org.uk/savetheboy

We believe that it’s absolutely unacceptable that so many people die needlessly - because no one could give them first aid when they needed it.
St John Ambulance teaches people first aid - about 800,000 last year alone - so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
As a charity, we’re committed to making sure more people can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. To do that, we need your help.

I just rediscovered this ad, that I watched ten years ago. It convinced me to go and do first aid. Well, actually, seeing someone collapse in a supermarket a few weeks earlier, really made me uneasy, and then this appeared on my RUclips feed and it was the final straw. I did a course with the Red Cross, and loved it. Whilst I never needed to use the skills, it pointed me in the direction of medicine, and now I'm a doctor. It's a good ad, thats what I'm saying.
It took me a while to figure out that the boy and his father were never in front of the woman's house in the first place.
Really good misdirection, is it not?
Same
@@PhilippBoettcher It's a twist worthy of an Inside No. 9 episode.
That was powerful. Everyone should be first aid trained.
What a fabulous advert. Really cleverly conceived and filmed. A hard hitting message well and truly hammered home. x
Hi Justin, Up to 140,000 die each year when first aid could have saved them. We want people to realise that first aid is not just about putting on a plaster, it's about life and death. Through our ad we hope to raise awareness of basic life saving skills to prevent more needless deaths.
I'm a st john in my school
who is justin
@@synkloites They were replying to someone else's comment, but because this is over 8 years old, the comment is lost.
You should also teach people to call 999, unlike this dad who just shouted "Help! Help!", even though he was literally just on the phone.
Such a powerful advert, In my opinion I think schools should make students take classes like these. I mean It is such a good tool to have, I mean first aid and all that, It can really save so many life's. I'm 16 and I volunteered to st john ambulance service. My dream is to become a qualified paramedic when i'm older. :)
keep at it, I had the same dream, I joined St John Ambulance New Zealand about 5 years ago, I am now a paid EMT and starting my Paramedics Degree, loving every minute of it, keep at it and you will get there. its a truly rewarding career.
Emily Shanley actually today I was in lesson and my teacher shown me this vid I laughed my pants of the way he fell out of the tree
I don't like seeing people hurt up close so I'm gonna save lives in the army but not as a combat medic

Nice good luck I wish you the best
If just Steve would have sorted it out. God damn you Steve.
Just saw the advert whilst watching Doc Martin. Proud to say that even at 16 years old, I know basic first aid, and enough to save someones life!
That's a great advertisement. Wish my country had ads like these, but people will just whine about how dark it was.
Saw this at primary ,traumatised for life
Thank you SJA HQ for this advert, i think i can honestly say that this will really help get the message out there. You've done well.
I have my heart start, I used to think that I will never use this, but this has taught me that it is very important and a good skill to have to actually save someones life.
That twist was so good
Thanks Jack. We will be airing it tonight on ITV during Doc Martin. Look out for it!
is he ok

As a sja cadet I think this video proves a good point
This is an amazing ad. Very emotive and powerful. Great organisation that do amazing work. Thanks!
Another brilliant ad from AMV BBDO.
Does make me proud to be a member x
This is an amazing ad.
Emotionally powerful!
When I first saw this advert a few years back it scared me to death a bit like the see track think train advert from late 2012.
makes me proud to know all this stuff (Army cadet of 2 years)
what incredible shooting
This advert freaked me out a little bit .... fell out of a tree myself at that age!
The sad reality this also applies in our pets also. A dog stopped breathing at my job & thankgod my husband knew cpr or she would have died. It should be a law that people should know first aid.
Fantastic advert
Blooming hell. This gave me shivers. And even though I'm trained in first aid for my job, I still did the #savetheboy stuff on the website. Amazing campaign and advert. Well done everyone.
Hi John, I had a think about what you said and you raised a real good point. But I'd like you to think of it this way; The recovery position helps with breathing and airways, yes? You can live with a broken back, but you cannot live without air in your lungs. :)
Poor little boy I sure he didn't know that the tree he was climbing was going to break so easy hope he's ok
It didnt really happen, thats just showing the kind of thing that could happen
this is brilliant!
If he had a phone, why didn't he call an ambulance?
otomodachifan He ran out of credit
Olly Towle 999 is free
He was in panic
The kid was died in so short time
@@Virginia184 you are right
WE ARE FIGHTING DON'T GIVE UP ALL OF US WE ARE FIGHTERS😣
Guys this scared the living shit out of me watching tv then bam good thing I know first aid and I am bellow 15
If you have a child or grandchild or a child you watch in your life such a a cousin or niece, hey first aid trained. You never know when that child will need your help.
Superb! Preserve life first, spinal injuries need to be looked out for, but with no air in the lungs, death will soon follow!
That's why you should always keep an eye on your child case something happens.
Amazing
Hi, unfortunately the interactive is only available on our website. What device and browser are you using?
who are you talking to?
SYNK LOITES to us
Because calling an ambulance with your phone is too mainstream!
Big up Aidan Wardle!!!!!
*Falls front first*
*Lands on his back next shot*
Great editing skills.
He actually falls sideways - but that is missing the point. Good for you, if you took away something from this commercial.
Been looking forward to this campaign for weeks. Lot of positive feeling about this - could you Save The Boy?
This is such a sad add :( no one wants to think about something like that but sadly we have too. I just don't like seeing a child die on tv
At first I thought the woman was watching them from the inside, and she deliberately chose not to help and instead get her clothes. So I thought she was just an awful person. It turns out she was never there to begin with. I don't know if I should be relieved or not.
Guess whos got all there uniform and is going on a weekend training course !
JOLLY OLD ALEX congrats
not the boy...sorry
Very Nice who the hell said the boy
That was terrifying the poor little kid from in the 🌲
Oh that made me sad 😞
Ha ha ha that was funny when the kid fell out the tree
Well it wasnt funny when he died.
Yeh true or he could be in a coma
As a cadet I can say I had a spinal injury in my own and they where sick so you log roll not recovery position even with one person lot rolls are slightly possible
I just noticed that there were houses behind the fence. I'm sure someone would've heard him crying for help.
wesley ogilvie in some cases 10 min make the difference between life and death. A call is not enough you must know by yourself what to do.
wesley ogilvie - Yes but that person would need first aid training, no?!
Paul Baird well I think all people should know first aid even if its a little video clip for two minutes on how to do CPR like just 2 minutes on how to do CPR can save a lifetime.
Yeh your right
YEAH AND THOSE PEOPLE CAN
TOTALLY JUST CLIMB OVER THE FENCE HAHA
That's a fair point.
I saw a version in a compilation that said “Call (blank) to save the boy”.
oh no the boys was dead poor boy
Can I just say the kid is my friend he’s like 13 now
Mr.Nate_YT good
How Careless. Very sad to see this generation that might look like this more often then others. Everything you do with care matters more than not.
Past generations just sent kids out to play and saw them again when they came home in the evening. If anything this generation cares too much.
As an EMT with the ambulance service I would advise NOT to place in the recovery position as there is a high risk of spinal injury. You can quite easily maintain an airway by tilting the head, keeping it in line with the body. For those people who have said you can live with a broken back - you can kill someone with a spinal injury by moving them depending on where the injury has occured.
I’m just saying just because someone falls there mouth doesn’t bleed or have blood come out
You may never have to perform first aid but remember that the chances are that if you do, it is on someone very close to you, your family, your partner, it's worth taking a first aid course because "just in case".
This is so sad I am a young first aider and I would recommend u treat for shock by raising the legs and dial 991 or 112
I thought she saw the boy fall...
She did not, she never saw it happen, they edit it to make it look like that but in reality she just went go get her laundry which was getting wet from rain
wow
😢
Smart.
0:22 best bit
Goddammit Steve!
Man, I love reading youtube debates
0:23 OOF SOUND but its low pitch
LMAO
he should not have shake the kid that way :O
Damn she got the laundry
Did he survive?
If you want people to join the service don't make it look so morbid
Bunnies and puppies and bouquets weren't exactly bringing them in.
Life is morbid if you let it, learn train and excel.
Theme Park Thrill no that's exactly why people join, because the idea of someone dying where they could easily have been saved is powerful
Welcome to the reality. What do you want? A campaing with flowers and bunnies?
I learnt first aid in college today
super girl You probably learnt like DRSABC and recovery position? You can't learn all first aid in one day mate.
i learnt what to do if someone is choking the recovery postition and how to banage a wound and The DRSABC
super girl Not bad, wait till you get onto things like anaphylactic shock and electric shock.
I think you might need to brush up on that English in college.
well I think all people should know first aid even if its a little video clip for two minutes on how to do CPR like just 2 minutes on how to do CPR can save a lifetime
Sad😢
is he ok
Mahjada Johnstone its a psa, they aren’t real tragedies shown. Just acts to show how bad it could be
CPR if there is no breathing. He had a phone, call an ambulance. Since he is a child his CPR is a tiny bit different to an adult. Isn't it?
Garlic Bread Yes I BELIVE so Not as much force
Garlic Bread Yes, with a child you only use one arm. Pushing down to 1/3 the depth of their chest. You still perform rescue breaths.
Garlic Bread well first you got to check for danger. Like broken glass or cars or any hazards that will do harm to you or to the boy. Second. See if there is a response such as blinking, moving or ask them to talk. If there not responding. Shout for help.
Then you check there airway to see if there's anything blocking it.
Then check for breathing. If he's breathing. Put them into a recovery position and if there not breathing. CPR. 30 compressions and 2 breaths. If they had a heart attack or any thing else. But if some one has drowned. You do 5 breathes instead
His CPR would be*
No cpr only in pulses patients. Just because someone isn't breathing correctly and is unconscious doesn't mean you do cpr. Also although he is a pediatric cpr would still be 30 compressions to 2 breaths. But because people many a times mess up the breaths, AHA just recommends quality continuous chest compression. Compressions are more important than breaths when it comes down to choosing between both in a true cardiac arrest for a lay man response.
i feel so bad for him he did not see that step wen I was little I put a stik in my mouth and went on the swing and had to sit blood out I was going to go to the park I watt the hospital it hut I was only 3 years old
Surely you can't die from falling from a tree
No you definitely can, you could break your neck or even your spine
@@I.Lina.K but that wasn't a tall tree and he shouldn't have even fell on his back
@@Bluemantopvids you can still die from a fall even if it's a relatively low fall
@@queenjulianalovesherfatban2064 i still dont get how he fell on his back, we clearly saw him fall from his feet
Fun
That looks so scary

No you can't do that to me 😢
I am 13 and I do first aid. Yes the courses are expensive but St John is a charity and not funded by the goverment. Paramedics are not always there to help!

HOW TO SAVE THE BOY!!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure there isn't a great deal of first aid in that type of situation? You can't move someone that has fallen from such a height, so what, maybe CPR until the ambulance turns up?
+Adam657 The airway takes priority over any potential spinal injuries. In this case with an unconscious casualty the first thing to do would be to determine whether he was breathing or not. If he was then you would use a jaw thrust manoeuvre to open up his airway whilst still maintaining c-spine immobilisation. If he wasn't breathing then you would call for help or an ambulance and then begin CPR.
+Spartan B-257 Ah I see, thanks!
St John Volunteers are trained to immobilise and stabilise patients that have fallen from height :) www.sja.org.uk
The mom was not going anywhere for help but the dad was a little worried because the kid didn't wack up
Its not the mom
Pause at 0:23 and it looks like the kid is swinging from spider-webs.
Jeez lady help the boy
The storyline indicates that the two are divorced. He was always depending on his wife's knowledge, yet now she's in her own home, didn't know why he hung up, but runs to the laundry.
Meanwhile he's miles away, screaming for help. You shouldn't trust other people to know first aid, you need to learn it yourself.
Emma Woo Washing comes first
@@Widdekuu91 The two aren't divorced. The woman just couldn't come to the kid's aid because she can't be there every time.
+Octavian
Alright, perhaps you're right and that was the symbolism.
Is the boy alright? I want to learn basic first aid and help people
Savi Dwarakinath its not real. Its an act just to show how bad it could be in real life

fucking hilarious the way the boy hit the floor!!!!
Blyth Spree no it’s f*cking not!!!! If that was in real life he could’ve died!!!!!!!
This is the hardest try not to laugh challenge ever.
That's dark as hell
In the UK if you dial 999 you will never be asked to place a patient in the recovery position!! If a patient is unconscious, they are placed on their back and their head should be tilted back to maintain the airway. If the patient vomits while less awake then, and only then should they be turned on their side.
The boy is called Aidan wardle. Go sub to him.
