What can I say, I saw this video a few days back when I decided to give my 7 month old finger food. So I have her a slice of watermelon, and within less than a second she took a piece and started choking. It was choking not gaging. I could see her right through, I did exactly what the video said. Put her back on my arm and back slapped. While doing this I opened my door and rushed to the neighbors gate. Before they opened my baby chucked out the big piece of watermelon right at there door. The neighbor aunty took her in her arms immediately and pacified me n my baby both, I am thankfully to them for opening their door and helping us out. I am forever grateful for their humanity. May God bless them. But for THIS video. What can u say. Thank heavens, Thank God, Thankyou Almighty for making this watch this video. I just watched it for knowledge sake and never thought I would need it. How wrong was I. I needed it just after few days. Thank you thank you thank you, I am still shaking and my baby is fine. Years ago, it happened to my baby. He was about 2 months old and had a severe choking with breast milk and phlegm. I didn't know what to do. Thank God, I was at my parents' place that day so they inmidiately handled the situation. I was as histeric as MJ's mom. Since my boy wasn't responding to CPR, my dad managed to take a taxi to the ER and kept trying on the way. My babe's face and fingers were blue but, in the middle of the way, my son took a deep breath and started to cry. I remember we got to the hospital 5 min. later and they did some tests on him.
The Dr. said we were so close to lose him.
It's been 5 years 5 months after that episode and I still can remember his widely open eyes stearing at me like asking me for help and his stiff limbs. I couldn't help him by myself. If my parents hadn't been there... Now, I'm convince that every mom should take CPR lessons during her pregnancy time, just in case. That's a recommendation I give every friend that gets pregnant.
Thank you for sharing this highly important video!

@@paigewaldrop2993 I thought fluids weren't enough to "block" the airway? My baby has had problems with choking on milk and reflux since he was born. Luckily it's slowly getting better. He even choked on his water this evening but coughed it out and is learning. Eating and drinking is a learning process . This seems more geared towards objects or throat clogging foods like hot dogs. I'd love to see the protocol for daily/ weekly mild expected choking WITH coughing in an infant.

Very important. Let me add something I learned in Asia. If the baby is choking of phlegm, the smacking technique won't release the phlegm. You need to suck out the phlegm from the baby's nose or mouth by using your mouth. Then proceed to CPR if needed.

This is so important to learn. I know it's almost instinct to want to out your finger down their throat to dislodge the object but there's a much better chance of it being pushed further and getting stuck further. Hopefully you'll never need to use it but it's so good to have this knowledge just in case ☺️❤️

I remember when my son who was in his terrible threes he swallowed a penny and i heard him chocking,i yelled & cursed, smacked so hard that all keep thinking was "he either dies chocking or by the back slaps i was giving him, penny was not coming out! Me as a 26yr old mother failing at removing this thing i put my 2 fingers in his mouth and reached as deep as i could,i swear my fingers streched cause i grabbed the penny with two fingers and pulled it out and he started to cry cause i scraped his throat with my nail trying to reach but he started to cry and breath, worst experience as a mom...2 weeks later he swallowed a second penny and went through the same nightmare, kid had me traumatized to the point i desired no more children,he is 16 now.

Very important. Let me add something I learned in Asia. If the baby is choking of phlegm, the smacking technique won't release the phlegm. You need to suck out the phlegm from the baby's nose or mouth by using your mouth. Then proceed to CPR if needed.
