Choking Baby Saved by Stranger’s Lifevac Device

- It was a scary moment at a South Carolina restaurant, when a 10-month-old baby started choking on a piece of pancake. Diners rushed to help the distressed family, but the Heimlich maneuver didn’t work. Salvation came in the form of a man named Major Hillard, who retrieved a device called a Lifevac from his car. Hillard used the Lifevac to try to suction the obstruction from little Gabriel’s mouth. After several plunges of the device, success.
First use in 5 years? Nothing is a coincidence. The purpose for buying that device was fulfilled. He was destined to safe that little lads life. Such a scary situation.
Amen. My first thought! Praise God!
Yes that was definitely his purpose. That’s no coincidence, that was destined to happen. God’s will

I’m not a mom but the second I heard the mom scream like that instant burst into tears 😣 maybe my own maternal instinct kicked in I dunno 🤷♀️
@@DarlingDevil4691 It more than likely did because I'm not a mother either and this video completely got to me. From the moment she asked "can somebody help me?" it was like I could feel her fear and despair and the tears started flowing. And then we she screamed "my babbbyyyyy" I just lost it. I had to pause it, because those were the words of a mother on the brink of losing her baby right in front of her eyes. That's not my child but I felt like I was on the same emotional roller coaster as the mother. So yes, it's very possible your maternal instincts kicked in. Not to get too scientific but it's quite literally embedded in our DNA as women to nurture and protect our young. Now I know men absolutely love their children just as much as we do but a mother's love is truly unlike anything else. Way back before evolution became what it is now, cave women were much like female wolves in the sense that they would help look after one another's child. A pack mentality if you will and although we as humans (more specifically women because of the topic at hand) have advanced immensely, we still have those strong maternal instincts that drive us to love, nurture, and protect.

Almost one year!! Congratulations!!
As an Eagle Scout who has been trained and continues to be trained in emergency preparedness and first aid, saying “Someone call 911” is not likely to be as helpful as saying “you, call 911.” Generally addressing a group of people will cause a “follow the leader” effect and everyone would be wondering who is gonna call rather than help. Addressing someone directly will give that person that strict order to take action. This situation is super scary and overall very stressful for the baby, the parents, and everyone else involved. Props to everyone and I hope the child is doing well now 🥺💚💚
Props to a fellow scout 👊 not very many of us these days. Can't count how many times the things I learned came in handy and possibly saved my life or that of others. Miss being an ASM sometimes.
Better asking outloud since 5 calls going is better than hearing my phones dead/not with them
That makes sense but she was a mom in shock and panic. Some people barely speak in situations like this. Good message for others standing around, however. A lot of people on their phones so I like to think they were on it
Yes! I learned this too in my psychology class in high school! I believe it was called diffusion of responsibility or something like that. Nobody wants to be the leader in an emergency situation in case they mess something up. Looking someone in the eye and telling them is a much better way to get them to act!
@@Edgarto156it's true that it's hard to be calm in intense situations. That's why it's good to think about what you will do in an event of an emergency before the emergency actually happens.
Lifevac still encouraging people to learn the heimlich maneuver and not promoting their product is an A+
Well, imagine they promote their product and someone uses it and didn't work. Bad situation
That probably means they're not that confident with their product.
i would assume it means they know their product isn’t supposed to be a alternative for the heimlich maneuver, it’s supposed to help those who already tried/aren’t able to do it themselves
He does not need to promote his product.
This video already have done it
Unless you have a Lifevac at your side 24/7, then yes, its extremely important to learn the heimlich. Your knowledge of the heimlich could be the important few seconds between medically ok and brain dead if the lifevac is too far away. You still do CPR to while someone's out grabbing the AED.

Every parent should learn the proper way to help your baby when he/she choked. You should strike with the heel of your hand in between the shoulder blade and not with gentle pats. Good thing the child was saved!
I thought exactly this. The patting was pathetic.
If they was at home and not in a restaurant with this man, that poor baby would most likely be dead.
I'm not even a parent, but as far as I know, small children under the age of two shouldn't even be eating sticky doughy food like pancake or pretzels, because of the choking hazard. There really needs to be more emergency training outside of RUclips.
One in every school lunch room, one in every hospital room, one in every restaurant and homes. This should be as important and mandatory as the fire extinguishers EVERYWHERE

@@darz_k. the Heimlich maneuver cannot be used on babies less than a year old. What’s recommended is exactly what the mom was doing in the video and it didn’t work. The Heimlich maneuver is very important and can be very effective. But it doesn’t always work, the more tools and resources the better.
@@keyton1928 Yes, I agree with that.
I think the mom in the video wasn't doing the back tapping properly though?
She was just kind of patting the back lightly and fast, instead of doing the more firm 5 back hits and check method - to be repeated then
As a parent, I couldn’t hold back the tears. I don’t even want to imagine the terror those parents were feeling. So happy that man was there with that device
@Liliana same I was not prepared to ball my eyes out today
That baby 🍼 choked because it's not old enough for food like that! And thank God 🙏🏻 someone saved it!
@Dream Chaser exactly well said. LOL my 3 year old still drinks his bottle at night 😬. It makes him happy and gives him comfort. Any time I tell him about weaning and that he’s a big boy he tells me we can talk about it later mom.
Oh me too. HORRIFYING. I can’t even imagine the panic and absolute terror. My god it’s SCARY how much we love our children.
I don't have children and I was absolutely devastated, watching this. This is called empathy.
wow talk about the right place at the right time, thank god for putting this man there
This was so emotional I started crying. I bought one !!!
His mother's cry gave me chills, I'm bawling my eyes out. So happy he's ok.
Me2
Right!?
Did anyone else almost cry watching this? When the hero said the baby gasped, so did I. So glad the baby survived. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I did cry.😭
Not almost for me, 30 secs in tears. Becoming a father softened me up so much and you know what? I'm okay with it
Yes!! What a kind kind man!! A true hero!!
And also credit for the lovely women who were consoling her!! So sweet and kind!!
@@DirtBlockMC ❤️❤️❤️🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow!! Good man!! You sound like a WONDERFUL LOVING father!!
Meeee
This video really made me realise why it’s essential to call out a specific person to help or to call 911. Otherwise everyone waits for somebody else to jump in and help.
Thank you for saving the life of that baby
He was literally heaven sent. Bless him.
This is so good words😇
that dude with the lifevac is a hero for saving that baby's life. i salute you.
I know! Grown man here tearing up watching these videos
Totally agree. The man above put that device in that man’s hands years before just for that day. What a good man and an uplifting story.
Ya I think we get that
@swaitian7995 so did i..
A must have in any house like a Fire Extinguisher. I hear people talking about the price as if their life or others isn't worth $80.
Omg I’m crying too! Thank the Lord for that Man and his Lifevac!! ❤️
I hope that baby grows up to see that guy as his hero. Because he is ❤️
That mom’s “oh my god, my baby” immediately got me in tears. Glad the baby is fine 🙏🏼
Me too. I swear it felt like my heart jumped into my throat when she screamed out like that.
Yesss me too
Me too 😭
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@deancampbell9860 shut up
She is so calm telling her story and I am here crying out of loud while watching them trying to save the baby
She was crying too.
She was crying during the scene when her baby was almost dying. And she is now telling the story days later.
She was such a dumb mother talking so calm and chill I would still be shaken up talking about it. Such a snob mother and such a weirdo dad.
@@ekales_ the big guy sounds shoked up talking about it more the the parents. They such dorks smiling about it like meh
@@user-oi7jt5jv6v bruh it's not that black and white, they already felt all the panic and grief in the world in that moment I'm sure their relief and happiness that their baby is okay outweighs it so much more now, just cuz they're not breaking down in front of the cameras doesn't mean they don't care lmao
Amazing! Thank God for that man. 🙏🏼✝️
