- in the bonus DVD of Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones, we get a special cut of all the deleted scenes that didn't make it into the film. They include Anakin Skywalker visiting Padme's family, as well as more with Dooku, Palpatine, and the Senate.

The scenes with her family gives a good extra bit of context toward the “I don’t like sand” comparing his rough upbringing and her pretty nice and almost carefree upbringing
Yeah, it's a stupid line but it does have a meaning. It was clearly meant to represent his distain for anything that reminded him of home.
@@wardy940 Correct people seem to forget that Anakin lived in a sandy shithole and think the line means nothing.
I feel like deleting the scenes in Padme’s house made a disservice to Anakin’s and Padme’s romantic arc. I feel like Padme went from not being into Anakin to kissing him way too quickly. We didn’t get to see her feelings in the transition period which made the dialogues between her and Anakin in the getaway villa very awkward. If the scenes were kept in I feel like the arc would have felt more complete and the movie would have been way better.
“What’s there to talk about? He’s just a boy.”

@@fyrerayne8882 my allegiance is to the republic, to democracy!
I believe the movie really suffered as a result of them cutting out the scene with Padme's family as well as the bedroom scene to a lesser extent.
All of Padme's deleted scenes should be reinserted, as well as the alternate scene with Obi and Mace. (instead of Yoda and cringy kids.)
Padme has a deleted plot in Episode 3 as well, they need to be put back in
“I don’t like sand” and “You’re skin is smooth...”: *stays in*
A scene where Anakin and Padme actually have a heart to heart and Anakin complements her, saying he’s happy she stayed with the Republic and it needs her: 20:05
Also, it is it me, or is it kinda funny watching the deleted scene where Obi Wan is doubting Anakin and Mace is all “He’s the chosen one, trust him” and then in Episode 3 the reverse scene happens where Mace says “I don’t trust him,” than Obi Wan says right back “He is the chosen one, is he not?” Then Mace gives him a look. Obi Wan roasted Mace with the same words he said to him, lol
He never said "Your skin is smooth" he said "here it is soft and smooth" addressing the fact that where Padmé grew up was much different to where he grew up. Also, I'm pretty sure the bit where Anakin says that he's happy she stayed with the Republic stayed in the movie. They cut like half of that scene, and left the other half in.
Yeah, I also found that deleted scene of Obi-Wan and Mace ironic. I immediately thought of that scene in Revenge of the Sith when Mace said that to Obi-Wan.
The first deleted scene you see is called Padme's bedroom?
This is where the fun begins.

it would be so cool if star wars released a 4 hour version or something! XD
I personally never liked them. They never felt Star Wars-y enough. My guess is that George didn't polish them enough in the script and so they turned out to be very odd and misplaced.

They should have kept at least the supper with the parents, these kind of scenes humanize the characters and let us connect with them as an audience, even if they don't add any important information.
It plays like a cheesy soap opera... I can totally see why they left it on the cutting room floor.
Well, let’s face it... the whole movie plays like a cheesy soap opera... but these cut scenes more so.
Reee Monro A soap opera in space... agreed.
That's the thing. You can tell George was more focused on moving the plot along and only incuding scenes that gave new information than letting it slow down sometimes to establish character.

Yeah, he should have thrown the time constraints out the window
@Don't Tread On Me you have to understand that every minute of film, even if it's already ready, can cost thousands to the overall budget. You spend 60-80% of the budget and resources dedicated to that one minute just to not finish it off and add it? Nobody wants at that work to be wasted but financially it alleviates the burden and focuses resources on stuff like well you know, Anakin whacking younglings while screaming I Hate You. You have to understand that they have to pay for the length of the movie to distributors. Is it dumb? Yes but that's how middle men get paid. Too short? Pay extra cuz it'll bomb in their eyes. Too long? Pay extra cuz it'll bomb. If it's not a perfect 90 min the budget can get fucked by the Hollywood snakes
The trial scene adds absolutely nothing so no shock it got cut. The Anakin and Padme scenes would help flesh out their romance which was really the most important part of this trilogy as it was leading Anakin to the dark side. Making it more real is pretty vital.

I actually really liked watching the politics in the Prequels it added more believability to the world but i can see why they wouldn’t add those scenes
Yeah, they were movies, pacing is kinda important. But in The Clone Wars show, they had a good bit more.
I agree, the politics were nice. My biggest problem with the OT is that we don’t really know the politics of what’s going on, ignoring the other films and extra material. What does the Empire stand for? I dunno. What do the rebels stand for? I dunno. What has the Empire done? I dunno. When your story is about war, you’ve got to tell us why there’s war. In ATLA, we are told and shown that the war started due to Fire Nation nationalism. In Lotr we are told the war is being fought over freedom of the world. In GoT we are shown a nation divided due to a mixture of a present power vacuum and disgruntled ethnic groups. In the prequels we are told the Clone Wars started as a mixture of Republic corruption, over taxation, and a little Sith conspiracy. As well as that, we are either told, shown, or can easily infer what each stands for usually a mixture of all 3. OT? All you can do is infer on what sparked the war.
@@haberak3310 I think you're being a little too hard on the OT. The opening crawls provide some of that info, also the actions of the imperial soliders and officers, certain scenes with Leia, and I think Kenobi have a few hints.
But yeah... The overall political workings... That isn't addressed at all. But that may very well be on purpose. Because, "I am the senate" and all. As in, there no longer is a political body, just a military state, so... Less politics.
@@haberak3310 Also, there is a lot left to speculation, after all, Lucas planned for a 9-part series... Sadly, we got 6, the prequels were heavily changed to be more family-friendly, and Disney screwed everything else up.
But, if you're planning to have a multi movie franchise, you can benefit from a bit of mystery.
It didn't pan out the best in the end... And I like the OB1 idea better than what we got but... It works well enough.
My point is... There are questions raised in the OT that were made to be answered by the prequels.
I never said I wanted every little detail, I just wanted to know why the rebels were fighting, their justification is never mentioned
Was quite cool to see padmés home and her family for the first time
That scene when they’re in Padme’s bedroom and she’s talking about the species that couldn’t adapt, couldn’t thrive and ended up dying is basically Anakin’s story in a way. Subtly.
Something I've noticed about these deleted scenes is that a good portion of them really do a lot for Padme's character. They make her a lot more fleshed out and well rounded. I'm kind of sad for her that they were cut. I understand they would have lengthened the movie far too much but damn... I really wish we hadn't lost that character growth and dimension.

Imagine you get casted in a star wars movie and they cut your entire scene out so then you're not.
Like being the adult force ghost of Anakin, only to have you cut out because remastered editions? How about being the voice of Boba Fett for 15 years, only to have your voice replaced... So yeah, Star Wars has always dicked over actors.
@@Saintbow my thoughts exactly. Imagine this being your big break, you proudly put it on your resume and IMBD page, just to be cut out entirely. Like the "saurons mouth" deleted scene Lord of the rings. You get an awesome cameo, some great dialogue between you and the main protagonists, just cut out...old actors history lesson, always fear the cutting room floor.
@@Saintbow.
At least the adult force ghost of Anakin and the voice of Boba Fett are in official versions of the movies. With this, the actors are completely cut out of the movie. In no version of the movie do they exist.
@@corneliussnow3491.
At least the mouth of Sauron was in the extended editions. Star Wars should have extended editions for the scenes like this that make the film longer, to keep in scenes that perhaps shouldn't have been cut, and to give the actors some respect.

So technically these scenes are canon, they just weren’t in the movie
yes , basically they are the same as extended cut .
They're canon within Legends because they were included in the novelization. In Canon, they're not canon. ;)
Yes that’s how some deleted scenes are supposed to be considered.
Big brain
these are just lets cut padme's scenes down and then mix the obi wan and mace windu scene with yoda earlier in the film rather than have 2 different scenes to do so that scene was not really cut just changed around to fit the time....i can see the sexism going on...instead of establishing a reason for us to care about padme the film thinks its not important to show her and anakin bond and flesh out why we should care about the mom of leia and luke and how her ideals transferred down the line to her kids..no whats more important is this dumb industrial scene of anakin c3po r2d2 and padme fumbling around on a conveyor belt...smdh..wish they cut that out instead and left in the padme character stuff..
Padme: “Anakin is a friend, he is my assigned bodyguard”

I don't get why "deleted scenes" aren't just added to movies as "optional scenes" these days. Especially with Disney+, Netflix, etc.
It should be easy to implement such options when watching movies on this medium.
Glad to see these scenes get some recognition. I really like the scenes in Padmé's home. I would replace the lake scene with the house visit!
@@Creatic58 that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. Or perhaps have the house scene transition to the lake, then back to Kamino.

Episode 1 deleted scenes are the best. Particularly the one with Qui Gon breaking up a fight between Anakin and Greedo
I always love seen the optimistic and wise side of Master Windu sure his combat skills are incredible but personally I think he shows his true Jedi off the battlefield
I became aware of the scenes at Padme's house by reading the novelization of Episode II and it really pissed me off that they cut it out. They shot themselves in the foot and cut out all of the scenes where it covers Padme having the same feelings that Anakin is and made him seem like a freaking creep.
Some of the variation in names can come from the fact the movie wasn’t fully finished yet. Creators sometimes never explicitly say one way of saying it is correct. GRRM has the same thing with his pronunciation of names, and has stated that whatever feels good for you is right.
The story of the Shada-Bi-Boran relocation disaster was included in Queen's Shadow. I love it that they brought content out of the deleted scenes, it shows that they still have great potential and value.

Wow, those deleted scenes have such a different feel to them, it would be so weird to watch a cut of the movie that included them. All the scenes with Padme's family seem so bright and the way characters speak to one another is more natural, a huge contrast to the way Jedi speak.
I feel like these scenes would have made the movie a lot better
I want extended cuts.
Offizaljon yes but it would have made the relationship way less creepy
@Offizaljon some people always complain.
@Offizaljon The complaint was that the Romance scenes seemed too forced and cingey

I don't think about adding but exchanging . Delete the "I don't like sand " , "Im haunted by the kiss you should never have given to me " and put those scenes between padme and anakin instead and I guarantee it would be way better already ( even tho I like attack of the clones , I think it would've been better this way ) , have their first kiss be right before the arena battle .
It was cool to see luke and leias cousins

Yess! Grandpa and grandma too.
Feels really weird to see Mace openly trust Anakin. I always felt he was on his back. I think Mace really liked Anakin and was on his back and pushed him for the better, but Anakin felt like he was always nagging him at everything
i bet hayden's heart dropped irl when she said that. idk but there's something about most of us guys (at least guys I know) that even if a girl we don't like says she doesn't like us, we die inside.
That blue dress is the cause of Anakin's fall to the dark side. Dang it boy
The deleted scenes in Episode 2 really are some of the best scenes in the movie. The directors talking about the scene of Anakin and Padme walking to the palace really does reveal why the movie struggled so much.
What makes these scenes great is that they give the characters time to breath and develop. Padme saying she wanted to leave politics and start a family is not just an interesting detail about her backstory, but a big character moment for her and Anakin. When Anakin says he's glad she stayed in politics, he says he's glad because the Republic needs her, but why he was really glad was because it kept her single. That's subtext, and it is crucial for writing compelling characters. The rest of the movie lacks subtext, as everybody spills out their emotions outright. That's not how humans communicate their feelings.
The problem with Episode 2 is that the creators saw these scenes as not pushing the plot forward. Because they only focused on character, they weren't significant. Instead they needed to have the scene where Anakin confesses his love for Padme, and she rejects him, -because that pushes the plot forward. But good writing develops the characters, then the characters develop the plot. Maybe with these scenes added back in, Anakin confessing his feelings for Padme would have felt more organic.
Episode 2 really is a fantastic movie that doesn't get appreciated, but I can't say it's underrated. The reason nobody appreciates it is because the script failed to make compelling characters. The plot is arguably better than Episode 5, but we subconsciously judge a story by the characters more than the plot. Episode 2 failed where it is most important and succeeded where it is least important.
Should have kept the Padmé family scenes it added depth and we see a glimpse of her side of the family. Also shows contrast with Anakin’s family and life from episode I. His rough upbringing compared to Padme’s easy upbringing.
The scene at padme's home was so wholesome but really sad knowing what happens in ROTS
Imagine if Luke was sent to Naboo to live with Aunt Sola instead of Tattooine to live with Uncle Owen.
He'd probably know about the Anakin we see in AOTC, but he still wouldn't know that Anakin is Darth Vader.
there's another deleted scene where Anakin and Ruwee talk outside the house. Anakin learns more about the Naberrie family history, and Ruwee asks Anakin to be honest with him about the danger Padme is in. I really like that scene, because it's nice to see Anakin making friends with his future inlaws, even if they never new he and Padme got married.
The more I see things like this I wish we got more director cuts years after movies were released. I understand in theaters time tables and limits are important. Once it hits DVD/Blue-Ray level of release it can just go full in. Just let a 4 hour version of the movie exist.
I think they need to have an extended version of Attack of the Clones where these “deleted scenes” are placed in the whole movie. I think a lot of people wouldn’t mind the pacing being off, and rather would like seeing the extended character development.
These deleted scenes actually make Anakin more likable and human
The makers explaining the reason for the scene in the first place as well as why it was cut is awesome. I appreciate you reviewing this content!

I like how the Separatists are basically the old Rebellion, but much stronger. Once the Empire was established, the Separatists were defeated, and probably mostly integrated as part of the Empire. The Rebellion from the Original Trilogy started in the Senate and continued to grow support.
