I, like many others probably, have been keeping a close eye on ivashka after the close duels with nadal on clay and fed on grass in Halle. I really like his game it’s great to see him win one he’s had a great season especially for a guy most people had probably never heard of before this year.
Federer was seriously injured on grass, so that doesn't count, a fully fit Fed would have walked over him! 100% Fed and mentally strong beats anyway, apart from Nadal on clay.

he's definitely been tricky to play, giving tough battles even in losses (Nadal, Federer, then Nishikori especially first set of the Olympics), then some amazing wins here against Carreno Busta, Cilic, Struff.
Think the week before a GS is lottery, a lot players don't want to get stuck thousands of km away with 48 hours to go for a slam.. and once some one is behind the incentive to fightback and play a very long match is not there, esp. later in the week.
Wow...this was a tennis clinic held by Ivashka. Total domination. I hope he can keep this momentum going into the US Open. Very impressive stuff. I also love the dedication to his wife. Beautiful moment that he will never forget.
As a Belarusian, i am so happy and proud of my compatriot who had won an ATP title. Someone can say that it's not a big deal, just a 4th tier tournament. Actually, it's a 5th tier tournament after 1. Grand Slam tournaments, 2. ATP TOUR FINALS(1500p), 3. ATP Master 1000 tournaments, 4. ATP 500 Events, 5. ATP 250(Like this one, the Winston Salem ATP tournament).
If you watch closely you will notice that whoever managed to hold the baseline won the point. When Ymer started doing better at the end of the match he wasn't allowing Ivashka to push him back. In my opinion a lot of it came down to the serve. Ivashka was pushing Ymer back from the outstart if every point, giving himself more angles and making Ymer run farther.
I think that's Ymers biggest weakness. Naturally he plays a bit more passive, standing too far behind the baseline, letting his ability to place the ball do the job. Not sure this will be sufficient in today's mens tennis.
I donno why Ilya ivashka is not onbyhe tennis radar , when he best zverev on Clay in Germany, i knew has heading for greatness, what a week in his career, we're going to see many more of this young man , wit that devastating for hand and a servebot type of player

Just the big 4 was stronger than him at that time, neither Ferrer nore Berdych used to do well against him. However I see similatities, let s say a cheap version of Soderling
Congrats to Ivashka - being a first-time winner on tour at age 27 speaks to a long, grueling grind. He's only won 50 ATP-level matches in his entire career and nearly half of them have come during the past 5 months alone: wins over Zverev, Monfils, Cilic, Busta, and Dimitrov. He also took a set off Rafa on clay and played Fed tough on grass. Also made the second week at Wimbledon. Not a bad run at all.
I certainly did not predict such a one sided affair. I kinda leaned toward Ivashka but hesitantly. Was the moment too big for Ymer? Who knows? I hope they both keep getting better and better.
Even though ymer barely shows any emotion I think that might have been the case. What a shame for him, because he's certainly capable of much more than what we have seen at the final. But hopefully it's a learning experience for him, and he has plenty of time to work on it.
Ivashka is rock solid off the ground with a big 1st serve, he doesn't give his opponent anything for free! I wouldn't be surprised to see him reach the top 15 / top 10 in the future!
Congrats to ivashka. He played well and Ymer played poorly. Ivashka is 27.5yo and this is his first finals win and really the first year he has made any real noise in the ATP. That should show Ymer and all the other youngsters it can take a while for some.

Ivashka never let it get to his head. Always classy. That's why he kept staying with Ymer because he stayed humble, realized that he was good, but he had to keep working to stay at that level.
Ymer let go of all tactics he displayed during the tournament lol if he had confidence since the beggining it would have been a more tight match. Ivashka is pretty consistent right now
Ymer looked so tentative, seemed like half his groundies landed inside the baseline. Got to be aggressive and hit through the court if you want to win a title
@Myerk Lamb From the highlights, it looks like Mikael got mentally tight (1st ATP Final), and so his (otherwise) good play this week (was especially impressive vs. Alcaraz) went out the window -- while I still think Ivashka would've won, had Ymer been "normal", I think it would've been a good 2 sets, or possibly gone three.
I can't believe the difference in Mikael's performance between the semi-final and final. He was a better player in the semi but didn't hold up to that performance in the finals. Ymer needs to be more consistent if he wants to climb up that ATP ladder and compete with the top 50.
I actually played Raymond Sluiter at high school level when he was 13 and I was 17. Got utterly destroyed with a 0-6 1-6. Oh well, at least I can boast about having won a single game against a later top 100 player :D
Ymer doesn't do well against big-hitters, I knew he was in trouble when Ivashka won the other semifinal. Most of Ymer's opponents this tournament hit with less power and more spin, which enabled Ymer to counter. Regardless, I hope he takes this result as a positive and keeps it going.

Ymer needs to hit a bit more big to be able to trouble a hard hitting opponent. Only consistent ground strokes when opponent is killing you is not going to work unless they faulter
Ymer is an excellent player who has played so well in the past and got bagelled in the finals is pretty sad. It really didn't look like he had any energy and just going through the motions. Maybe it's the fact that he rarely gets this far in the tourney. He's young and will learn from this. And hopefully next time he will be in better shape to finish. Congrats to Ivashka who took advantage of Ymer's poor play and destroyed him.
The issue with Ymer is that he can't seem to put the ball away. He doesn't have that "ummf" (weird way to say it) that other players have. He won't miss much but the other player will never really be bothered by his strokes. He and his coach need to look at this I think. I had this problem when I played also.
Ymer who got to you , a pure fool know you can play much better, why practice, any body can lose , if money don't talk don't talk , I think fans came out to see you do your thing even in the South , good talent is all ways welcome for a while .

@@dap777754 If you swing the racket inward instead of outward as you finish a topspin serve, it will curve left instead of right
