Hope you guys enjoyed this in-depth look at this iconic tone. I wanted to include some background and things to note before jumping straight into the tutorial so you guys could get a better understanding of the BR-864/600. Please let me know what you’d like to see next! And be sure to join the new discord server I created just for this channel: discord.gg/c7u2ujJbTK That's the best place to reach me so come by to ask questions and talk tone!
Love the video! I've been looking for someone to show how to get that sound for a while. I was wondering if you would ever do a tone tutorial for his standard setup. Like the Mind Mischief video you made was so fucking spot on it was unbelievable. I would, and I know others would love to see how you get there!
@@TameTones I have Kevin’s pedal board pretty much to a T but I still feel like there’s something missing. I’m really curious how much the Rickenbacker plays a roll in the overall tone. I usually use either my Tele or my Casino and it’s soo close but yet still something is missing
The vintage toasters on the rick are pretty vital in getting it 1/1. So much so that when I had the high gains originally in this rick I couldn’t even get the sound until I swapped the pickups.
@@TameTones that’s so interesting, u know I’ve heard the same thing from others before. God I wish I had the money for a Rick lmaoo. I was thinking of potentially switching out the p90’s on my Casino for some toasters. I’m just not sure if it would even be worth having to go through the whole process tho. I bought the Casino wanting more of a Beatles tone but it hasn’t given me exactly what I wanted, I should’ve seen that coming tho so that’s on me lol
This is so awesome, do I even need a pedal board for all the lonerism songs? For example can I get the tone for the MusicToWalkHomeBy rhythm guitar using just the BR-864?
What’s up man. Unfortunately the only time no pedals are used is for the Space Guitar tone. All other tones for the most part always include Kevin’s main chain of pedals. And I’m confident in saying that Kevin didn’t use the BR for lonerism recordings, only his chain into the KTG-1. With that being said that doesn’t mean you can’t use the BR to get some type of lonerism tone out of it. I recommend making a preset using the compressor on a high setting, use the preamp “match” and turn on the 4 band eq and just go to town on it. For Lonerism the guitar is boosted around the 1k-1.2k mid range I think, very low bass, and a little trebly. Mostly mids though. Set that up, and use a bluesdriver into a Vibrato of your choice and you should be golden as a nice little starter setup!
He ended up going bonkers and claimed that Tame Impala was demonic and that KP sold out lmao. Just a bunch of nonsense. He even sold his gear. It’s alright though there’s been plenty of good Tame tone content since his time. Some of my favorite channels are jvramp3 and glaze phaze. They inspired me to take a crack at it myself, so here’s hoping I help out the tame community just the same.

great tutorial bro! keep making videos
Boss BR-864 is not available anymore. Any recommendation? I really want to get this sound
By any chance could you make a video more in depth how to actually use the br unit and record off it. I have one but I haven’t mastered it at all.
How do u use this for live tones
Man, you're the best! Do more! But please mix better - your voice is so quiet that crancking up the volume guitar sounds kick in pretty loud.
Yeah I noticed that after the fact, didnt spend as much time mixing this one as I do my covers lol. Thanks for the feedback

Or even the exact Mind Mischief Riff tone with just the BR?
