Biggest Rugby Kicks- Longest Penalties and Drop Goals
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 апр 2017
- This is a compilation of some of the longest kicks that rugby has ever seen featuring Elliot Daly, Francois Steyn, Jonny Sexton and more. One of the longest kicks seen on the international stage by Paul Thorburn in 1985 is excluded from this video due to poor clip quality. There are longer kicks in then video than Paul's as his only measured 70 yards 8 and a half inches (64.2m) but considering he did not have a tee the kick is very remarkable. .Please like subscribe and hope you enjoy!

Commentator about Daly..."He does have a Siege gun on the left foot". Then 'BOOOM'. Good one
For a moment there, I thought Elliot Daly was Leigh Halfpenny LOL That haircut and beard combo makes them look like brothers.
interfear1 I didn’t notice 😆
5:35 "that is one hick of a penalty keck"
Darok Wazo give him a break his a Kiwi mate

I am here after all the SA World Cups
@@noobcoder9078they won and we'll win 2023
francois Steyn with racing against Clermont on the Michelin drop goal from 60 meters, could be 70m never seen that before
damn Morne Steyn was so good back then...now look at the Bulls 😂
yep lol
Very much enjoyed this.
A "Longest Penalties" video and you don't include the longest international kick of them all by Paul Thorburn. It's legendary, with an old, wet, heavy, leather ball as well.
@TuckerVFX Take it easy, you fucking psycho!! 🖕😂🖕
What a useful comment....
leather balls are lighter than todays balls, look it up. Leather balls don't become heavier with water so much since they treat the leather. It just becomes more slippery.
The heavier the ball the further it will travel to an extent
Exactly and in a windy stadium! There’s no wind in these stadiums nowadays
Love the Steyns!!!
Brilliant video. Keep up the good work.
Cheers mate! Much appriciated.
Great video mate
Freeze frame at 2:21 -- Frans Steyn's kick is from about 2-3m beyond halfway and 6m in from the sideline; halfway is 50m and rugby field is 70m wide, hence if we use Pythagoras' equation we get SQRT((50+3)^2+(70/2-6)^2) = 60.4 meters, not the 66m that the commentators are claiming.
[EDIT] In case anybody's interested, here's the formula for calculating the distance of a rugby kick:
SQRT((50+A)^2+(35-B)^2)
where
A = the number of meters beyond halfway (subtract A if it's A meters inside the opposition's half)
B = the number of meters in from the sideline. As a guide, the two dotted lines are 5m and 15m in, and the center of the field directly in front of the goalposts is 35m in.
So you just plug the numbers A and B in, and type the equation into your web browser, and Mr Google (or Ms Bing) will give you the answer.
Correct 👍🏽
bruh🤣🤣
Paul Thorburn's kick was the best. It was done with a heavy leather ball and towards latter half of the game and as you say no tee. Most of the others are great too but one can push the synthetic lighter balls with tees a bit further and the kicks in the upper veldt certainly go further through the thin air too. All good kicks though
As There are so many more kicks that are worthy of being in this video I will make a part 2 in the near future so as many of the biggest kicks that rugby has seen can be showcased.

There's a Frans Steyn drop goal for the Sharks that was about 60m...would've loved to see that one in here.
this is unbelievable
very good
Rugby ready
Lot of comments from young Fellas here. You need to check out the Guiness book of records. The biggest kick was 77.7m by Springbok Gerry Brand. SA vs England 1932. No I didn't see it, my Grandfather told me about it when I was a kid.
It was only 40 metres, your grandad lied.
South African kickers have ridiculous power
Ya, still missing the biggest ever kick. Frans Steyns drop goal for Racing against Clermont. Dropped around 58-60m out on the angle and cleared the bar by at least 15m.
Francois Stein's kick vs Leinster is not 66m, the real distance is 61.8m.
You better watch "Longest kicks at goal" 'till the end to understand it.
this video is good
The first one is equivalent to a 64 Yard Field goal, they make it look easy.
It's way easier because they're kicking off a tee. That's why kickoffs in the NFL are so long and consistent: it's the only kick that allows the use of a tee.
I seem to recall that Zinzan Brooke ( NZ) dropped a goal from inside his own 22, not bad for a lock forward. And I am English, but love the game.
Thanks for that. If I may did you take into consideration De Wt Ras' penalty against an English touring side in around the mid seventies in Bloemfontein?
NFL needs to look into these guys. Granted that nobody is rushing them but they are pretty good
They would get bored, in rugby they get to play, not just kick.
What a WOW!!!😱😨
Hi my problem is getting my kicking leg to swing all the way back what should i do
The one with Luke mcalister is my dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love ya dad
Your dad was a great All Black. I loved watching him play.
Some of these pitches differ in size. Years ago I watched Glasgow Warriors play Edinburgh and it was on our rugby playing field in Aberdeen which was 85m and I’ve seen games played at pro level on shorter narrower pitches. Watch Joel Stranskys 59m kick vs Aus in 1993 in a windy stadium as well. Andy Mehrtens kicked a 63-64 metre kick vs the Boks in 96 as well that flew over the posts
you mean andrew mehrtens
@@ilovethekruser1217 yes Andrew mehrtens. Awesome player in his day
Can only imagine one of these guys joining the NFL and kicking a record field goal.
I've often wondered why drop-goals aren't utilised more to the extent that the points would have to be reduced. Forwards celebrate a hard-won, kickable penalty but stand far enough back from a set-piece or in open play and a drop-goal is impossible to defend.
What about Ruan Pienaars 61 meters in Heineken Cup final 2012. Not just for the distance but importance
Stewart Grindlay
Stewart Grindlay they lost FUCKING 42-14!😂🤣
Geluk francois styan jou lekker ding go the springboks
Most of these drop goals will have had huge tail winds
The first drop goal had no tail wind, look at the flags on top of the posts
we all know dan carter is one of the greatest fly halfs
A few recent kicks from the 2020 Currie Cup
in SA
Frans Steyn (Cheetahs) 64m penalty at altitude - ruclips.net/video/xnkf7_MO-W0/видео.html
Curwin Bosch (Sharks) 61m at sea level - ruclips.net/video/BFfxgJN1SuE/видео.html
Tiaan Swanepoel (Lions) 61m at altitude although I think it was closer to 65m - ruclips.net/video/l8u-EPYhTj4/видео.html
Nah
I agree
Right footed people are thinking: Faaaaaaaar out
Left footed people are thinking: not bad.. could probably get just as far myself
id say the best kick was from dan biggar in the last world cup against england where he had the kick from just behind the halfway line.it was the first game in the group of death and wales were behind at twickenham.brilliant
Place kicks off a holder are better for accuracy and travel at straighter angles, but Drop - kicks that hit off the ground go the highest and the furthest of all kicks because they get rikishay effects and they are taken by the wind more.
Should have put the video of Jonny Wilkinson's 2003 World Cup winning drop goal. He kicked it in the last minute to win the World Cup for England.
great video, but you're missing one from the 70's or 80's. Can't remember the name but he was Welsh and slotted it from 70 metres with no tee
I realised after I posted it. The quality of the clip wouldn't have been great but i should have included it.
rugby hits productions As I've already said it's a great video regardless and a great channel. Keep up the good work buddy!!
Cheers mate I appreciate all the support I get and will keep the vids coming.
Ian O'Regan Paul thorban
Ian O'Regan it was around 63 metres actually. Massive kick nonetheless
It's cool bro's
Wow, these guys are busting 50 m drop kicks like nuthin'
expect to see chris patersons drop kick vs australia in 2003 in the part 2
WHAT IS YOUR INTRO SONG CALLED?!
EpicRugbyGoldfish I'd love to change the world- Jetta

Don Clarke, the enormous AB full back in the 50's, scored a 78m penalty.
interesting thanks
Question is, who takes long range kicks for the lions? Hogg or Daily??
Rob Kearneys drop kick attempt vs New Zealand where he hit the uprights would've been on here
Longest drops, im crazy
I noticed that the further the kick, the longer it takes to reach the posts.
Quo Vadis ...........well noticed Sherlock🤓
I'm watching it from South Africa. Who's with me?
All Black fullback Don Clarke one from the 25 (now the 22) against south africa back before camera footage waa available.
2:07 got it from o gara
What did the commentator mean by 10 yard line
what is the musik at the begin?
what about poul thorburn 71mtrs for Wales.
Colin Jones his penalty kick measuring exactly 70 yards 8 and a half inches (64.2m) against Scotland in 1986
Colin Jones in i
Steyn's kick was short if you pause it you can clearly see the ball in front of the cross bar
I also viewed it frame by frame and agree, it looks very short from the camera angle, but those two guys with the flags are standing directly under the posts and have the best view in the house. Of course it's also possible they got it wrong.
60 m is over 65 yards, holy shit.
It seems to me that the longest kickers are all South Africans. The drop goal from 60 meters is from Riaan Viljoen. The penalty kick at goal from 66 meters is from Francois Steyn then he again kicks at goal from 62 meters. The other drop goal from 52 meters is from Morne Steyn. These are all South Africans.
What about the 19 yo Curwin Bosch last week with a 60m penalty or Pat Lambie with the 55m winning kick against New Zealand in 2014
Yeah those are great SA players as well. But Francois Steyn's kicks beats everyone XD
at altitude any of them?
Dian Swanepoel its because of the altitude africa is high up so the air is thinner therefore the ball has less resistance
You need to look at Paul Thorburn's match winning kick. Nearly 65 metres without a tee and using the heavier old style ball. Nothing is going to beat that I'm afraid.
What about Zinzan Brooke drop goal 95 World Cup against England on the move
All 5 drop kicks by Jannie De Beer in the same game, South Africa vs England 1999 world cup?
1:00 I was the most surprised in this video.
Reece Hodge from the Wallabies would probably have the biggest boot in rugby today.
Frans steyn and tian Swanepoel hase a bigger boot
Very good compilation. As you mention, there will be lots more worthy kicks that should be included that do NOT include a kicking tee. I guarantee you that the bulk of those will be from South African teams in the High Veldt during the 70s and 80s. Would also expect the dropped goal from Kiwi No. 8 Zinzan Brooke to make an appearance. All thhe kicks on the video were taken by regular team kickers in the backs, but Brookes drop goal was totally instinctive and every regular kicker would have been proud of that. Another great inclusion would have been Aussie prop Matt Dunnings sweetest drop goal for the Waratahs in 2003. That one was a bit of an anti-climax though as it cost his team a place in the semi finals. I know your video is for biggest and longest.... but these would have been the biggest/longest (AND SWEETEST) from a Number 8 and a prop
No mention of Paul Thorburn's million miler!!!
because its way off the record ;-)
Paul thorburn wales, kick against Scotland is a monster kick as well. should have been included
Read the description.
Dan Carter v SA in Rustenberg 63m
reece hodge?
I wish this was popular in America just more popular in general
You know ur bored when ur a football fan and u are watching rugby. (No hate rugby fans) :) cool vid tho
Rugby fans don't get bored and watch football though ...
Wat about rob Kearney's kick v clermont
Why are sometimes players attempting own-half drops? Sorry if there's a rule I don't know, thank you
What about sexton and rob kearneys from around 60m, drop kick. But good vid!
no Marcelo Bosch kicks? he has a few of em
That kick by Francois Steyn from 60+ metres went under the bar?? So confused
Where is Frans Steys record drop kick
you seem to ignore it, but rugby was played before 2007, and even before you were born...
Paul Thorburn Wales v Scotlamd.
Altitude is the definitive reason why big kickers from SA thinner air less drag if Daley was kicking in those conditions he would be putting them over from 65 metres plus
What about Johnny Sextons “Le Drop”?
lmao
still not sure what i saw at 1min!!!! for real?!?!
Where is Aprasidze kickhs???
The passion ain’t the same as football If a footballer took a free kick that far out fuck me it would be just
American/Canadian football kickers kickoff with a tee with the ball leaning backwards. Why do rugby kicks with a tee on their penalty kicks lean the ball forward?
2:59 best part of the video
Yeah the should be in every video it
where was dan cater and others
some great kicks. This is why i never can understand how american football field goal kickers missed frequently enough from 30 and 40 yards out right in front of the posts. The phrase you "had one job" literally comes to mind!
They miss because the ball is snapped back and a guy has to catch the ball and position it while the kicker runs up. In rugby the ball is set on a tee and isn't moving. And a dozen massive guys aren't charging you.
agnostic47 have you heard of a drop goal it’s way tougher than a football field goal you’ve got to time it perfectly and the opposition is charging at you
Id love to change is the songs name
Mean kicks fuk I'll be a all
you forgot about Marcelo Bosch´s penalties
for got andrew mehrtens fingers
Where is o’gara and Sexton
These englishers would stub a toe if they ever struck an American Football
Pierre Villepreux for France against New Zealand in Wellington, NZ in1968; 65m. In those days, the balls were like lead.
You legit missed out the world record
I think Reece Hodge wears the crown at this point
