Christopher Sabat really threw 20 years of DBZ shouts into that "PLUS ULTRA!"
Rarely does the dub of MHA beat the sub in my opinion, but Sabat’s All Might is right up there with the Japanese voice actor. And in this particular moment, I think he even surpasses him. That may be one of the most awe-inspiring deliveries of a single phrase I’ve ever heard lol

@@peytonalexander5300 This dynamic is kinda how I feel about Sub vs. Dub overall. Sub is generally better like 90% of the time, but when the stars align and a really good voice actor that fits his or her part does a really good performance in English, you just can't beat it.
The reason All Might is the symbol of peace is not only because he's so powerful that he's basically unchallenged, but it's also the way he uses his powers. He *refuses* to involve the students in the fight even though they could be oncredibly useful, he always tries to save everyone and pushes himself beyond his limits, even to his extreme detriment, just so that he could save people. He's also just incredibly cool.
That the problem he won't be able to do this anymore soon
It's also his catchphrase. "I am here!" He's telling everyone that he is there to save the day. Reassuring those around. It's also why he smiles. A smiling hero declaring his arrival can often be enough to reassure people in trouble.
The problem with that though as I think many have reasoned in this and many other facets of life, when you prop everything on one point then when that point inevitably fails, so does everything else.
All Might is also genuinely one of those heroes that are always inspiring...even if Deku becomes the number 1 hero, it's All Might for me...always. To this day whenever I binge mha I always stop for a week after the All for One battle...
I remember watching this episode when I was 11 years old and thought:
"How is he going to defeat Nomu? He is tired"
And when All Might says. "I just have to surpass my one hundred percent "
I know now it sounds cliché, but for a 11 year old that line goes hard.

Heck the same summer I started my hero (I was twelve because I started the show in may, and my birthday is in June) I read the Shadow of the Wind (an amazing book from my country, with murder, burn faces,sex and more) and I read call me by your name when I was 14.

A lot of people kind of miss Kirishima's line after Bakugo's threat to blow up Warp Guy to bits. There's a certain element to it, that I don't think anyone caught on to.

Some details I love about the All Might Nomu fight;
It help to think of Nomu's power like a literal sponge. A songe can soak up water the way nomu soaks up physical impact, but if you oversaturate the sponge, it can't hold any more liquid. And All Might turned on the fire hose.
In the moment before the first punch, Nomu ran to attack; All Might covered the same distance in one leap.
As they were exchanging blows, All Might was walking forward, but Nomu's legs were locked. Even after tanking All Might's flurry of blows with his Shock Absorption, there was still enough force to drive the enormous Nomu backwards.

The iconic ost "you say run" will get you pumped every time the drum beat started. Totally suitable for Allmight theme!!!

Not even ashamed to admit it as a full grown adult. When All Might acts as he does in this scene, I get a little choked up. The pure heroism is just something I wish we could see more in real life. Not the physical power, but the spirit of it. It’s out there, don’t get me wrong, just wish we saw it more often.

Mysteries about our handy boy aside, let's talk about the episode. All Might said it took about 300 hits to beat Nomu's shock absorption. In his prime, he said it would've taken only about 5 hits. Meaning that All Might back in his prime is about 60 times stronger than the weakened All Might we see now. Which just makes you wonder about the kinds of villains All Might would've fought and defeated back in his prime. We saw that a punch from a weakened All Might literally changed the weather. Which just puts into perspective how strong he was back in the day because he's about 60 times weaker than he used to be. Such a wild concept.
And we NEVER GOT TO SEE IT. 😭
Makes you wonder just how strong that Boss villain has to be to have injured Prime All Might with a permanent injury.

Tbf, it's not necessarily that clear cut. If you think about Nomu's shock absorption as an armor it's like All Might's doing 100 damage, but Nomu's nullifying a straight 90 damage each time. So if it takes 300 blows that's 3000 damage. If, in his prime, All Might did 600 to 700 damage, transforming into 510 to 610 damage, that would still do the trick and only be about six or seven times as strong. Which is still #@*%! impressive, but not sixty time as strong.
Oh, and all those numbers are made up (obviously). It could be more than that, it could actually be a lot less and I'm lowballing Nomu's ability by a bit too much while All Might's only two or three times as strong as his youth.

In all seriousness, it’s super cool seeing him protect people and fight someone made to beat him.
I love shigaraki's comment about All Might cheating. There is a wide spread of power levels for quirks, from pulling small objects to controlling a seemingly endless supply of fire and ice, but All Might is so far beyond the normal spread of the power it is insane. Even in this weakened form he break the power scale. There is a strong case for quirk matchups in this world, but All Might has so much raw power that he can overcome what should be a straight counter to him. The Symbol shines because nothing the world has seen can stand up to the might of All Might. We know that he does have his weakness, but as Montana said, he cannot let that be seen. He has to win, no matter what, and so far, that is all the world has seen of him.
I just realized last episode that the reason Deku was able to use One For All for a full smash with no damage is specifically because of the Nomu's shock absorbing properties. Deku was able to deliver the full smash without the equal and opposite reaction of the impact.
Wrong actually. After the fight they talk about it and Deku realizes that he actually held back, despite the anime over exaggerating the impact. He managed to hold back because he was aiming OFA directly at a person for the first time. Deku recreates the sensation of holding back from then on to hold back. That wouldn’t work if Deku was wrong

Always gotta have the big fight near the end of the season and MAN does MHA have some freaking fantastic ones. This is the easy best of season 1, but that gets VERY far from clear cut down the road and FAST.
Shigaraki’s crew when faced with All-Might have a very hilarious interpretation of the guy. And it leaks into this whole circumstance. They’ve all been coached. These villains have never seen All-Might in person, but all of them are claiming All-Might is weaker. But are quickly proven just because that IS the case doesn’t mean just anyone can stand against the guy. Sure he’s got maybe minutes looking like this but the SHEER AMOUNT HE CAN DO in that time just surpasses the point of absurdity. But that’s why you hear things like Shigaraki saying I couldn’t even see the guy move, but I know he’s slower. That’s why Shigaraki has this WHOLE villain speech prepped but the reality is even HE didn’t believe a thing he just said. Every bit of this STINKS of an assignment. Like a bad speech in school. I did it because I was told to, but you can’t make me try. He clearly enjoys and wants PARTS of it, but not all of it. And he even brings up a “father” as he picks up his face hand and how it’s supposed to go which makes this even more pointing towards that.
Also nothing screams “I am out of my depth” more than the random stooge who says “I’ve never seen him in person before.” And goes to attack the 8 foot muscle giant. My guy, there’s being clueless and there’s actively ignoring common sense.
Meanwhile the kids are out here literally making their own homework to do on the field trying to help the situation. Sure, it’s reckless abandon but that doesn’t mean it’s not helpful in times. And since the villains are such amateurs what better opponent for the kids to try and face? I mean Bakugo, Todoroki, Deku, and Kirishima are all just diving in with next to no consequences and only Deku understands in the SLIGHTEST what the problem with the circumstances are. I mean Kirishima hasn’t even been made aware how bad things can turn for him if Shigaraki decided to grab him when he got close. Much less that they are LITERALLY watching something they can’t so much as track.
Which leads us to the Nomu. I love how it just occasionally is staring off into space waiting for an order, and when it gets one it just SNAPS into action and goes from a statue to an INSANELY overpowered supervillain at the mention of a word. It’s very off putting. And it has 2 completely dissimilar quirks. Which is NOT a thing in this world. Much like how All-Might said he can transfer OFA. (Which we STILL have no idea why that’s even possible. All we know is it can transfer, and it’s UNGODLY powerful.) That doesn’t just HAPPEN. It literally flies in the face of how quirks work. Shock absorption and super regeneration WHILE being so built it matches All-Might’s current build. But how does that fare?
All-Might is at a COMPLETELY different level from his successor. I’ve hinted at it, here and there. But All-Might here is causing natural disasters with EVERY MOVE HE MAKES. And this guy is running out of steam! He’s moving at around Mach 30, (that is an actual measured speed ball-parked going down the staircase, and hitting the crowd of villains simultaneously in half a second.) shaking the earth as he moves, no one can so much stay on their feet in PROXIMITY to the guy, and as ridiculous as it is to say this, OFA is one of the ONLY powers that can go over 100%. (I’ll leave the reason unknown.) AND he finishes off by quite LITERALLY igniting the air and makes an impact that literally makes this terrifying creature have a team rocket sendoff. Which fittingly makes these villains all realize they are nothing but a mere joke to him.
Not only have we not seen Deku do anything REMOTELY similar, but now we are getting info we’re looking at a SMALL FRACTION for All-Might, and since Deku can’t measure to All-Might, a fraction of THAT is what Deku is using. And there will be a point where numbers are actually possible to gauge for that. His “heyday” he brings up, ALSO not an exaggeration. He has nothing to lose by admitting to them, yeah I’m at 1/60th of my best these days. Look what that got you. The guy is missing organs. I hear that’s bad for your physical health. But that REALLY starts to give us an idea after seeing THAT just how powerful OFA really is. A cut in power at THAT level and STILL is inconceivably more powerful than anyone else.
All of this is shown in this really cool and fragile veil of how this can completely go sideways. Every instant counts, our top hero isn’t at his best, his successor isn’t ready, and this incredible faith everyone has in heroes could fall apart FAST if he fails. What a great way to show the stakes now, and REALLY lay the groundwork for the future. This show is a rare one that is SUBSTANTIALLY more prepped for long term than others and it knows it’ll go places and I just have endless respect for it. This is a fantastic episode and I REALLY love coming back to this one.

This was the moment I truly GOT IT y'know, like I got why people were so hyped about MHA because that moment of Almight being caught in the portal and Deku starting to run over to save him, remembering all Almight has done for him so far and thinking how there's so much more he wants to learn from him, I was legit, actually shivering, wondering if Almight's going to die and if the rest of the show will be Deku rising to that position of symbol of peace without his mentor. I was so worried, my heart is racing just from watching clips from this episode with you

All Might is EVERYTHING! Most of the greatest emotional moments of this show are thanks to All Might; that big chunk of muscles has made me cry so many times because he has this thing of being so PURE in his principles that he creates this child-like admiration while you're watching him. One of the greatest anime characters of the century.
Still one of my favorite episodes of the whole show. It made me absolutely fall in love with this show.
Given how much of the story they have to go, I REALLY hope they plan on doing two MHA reactions a week once Code Geass is finished.

I remember getting into an argument with a teacher about if you can do over 100%. I shut them up pretty fast when i claimed I can run as fast as i can, but I will be running faster if I'm chased by a bear lol. IMO 100% is max safety power, going above that introduces chances for failure and damage.
I think the ABSOLUTE highest a person can go is 125% to account for hysterical strength. And even higher with adrenaline rushes. But OFA is quite literally DESIGNED to go over 100%. That’s literally it’s whole thing. In All-Might’s case though it’s most likely he’s tapping into the prime power he no longer has full access to. Which I say is more because of his missing organs and injuries less the power’s shape itself.
After recently rewatching this episode, even now, it's so damn good.
31:09 Actually, I'm pretty sure Montana is right about that. Even Deku is surprised that his arm didn't break, and we see later on that he really doesn't have the control to not break himself, so it's not like he suddenly gained control. There's nothing about Deku in this moment that leads us to believe that he didn't break himself due to anything he did himself. The only real answer that makes any sense is that, the shock absorption must have somehow prevented the breakage.
No, later on Deku realizes, fully knowing that Nomu’s quirk is Shock Absorption, that he did really hold back there. That moment is forever referenced as the first instance of Deku dialing it back and Deku recreates that sensation from this point on in order to regulate his power. The reason he didn’t break is because it was his first time using OFA on another person and he subconsciously held back in order to not kill someone.

I have to say that of all the Superman pastiches, All Might is the only one who really lives up to the spirit of the character.
Yes! I love how he's introduced as the usual Superman analogue, only to immediately have the curtain pulled back and we see the damage he's accumulated, the limitations he struggles against because he still desperately *wants* to save people.
Man just rewatching anime with you guys from Aot to My hero and so on is such a cool experience! it's like when I was little showing off my pokemon/yugioh cards to my friend and seeing their reactions... amazing I love reaction channels!

Honestly, the video game analogy is spot-on.
If you think of it as something like Injustice. Nomu has 2 health bars (Shock Absorption being the First Bar, and Super Regeneration as the Second Bar) that constantly replenish.
All-Might essentially, Basic Attacked his Shock Absorption away. Basic Attacked, until the Super Regeneration was at 70%. Did a Combo until it was at 10%.
And then used an Ultimate Finisher that does 90% damage, to a 10% or under Health.

The coolest part is actually that not only did All Might basically beat the schock absorption out of this thing. But he didnt exert the same amount of force that he did before. In his absolute prime glory days his feats where rumored to be more like myths and almost comical.
*His punch were so strong that he could blast away a hurricane when striking and when he jumped it was said that he could jump from one side of japan to the other and when he walked he could accidentally create hurricanes If he wasnt careful.
These however were mostly myths although with the strength he has shown and exerted it wouldnt supriss one if they actually had a grain of truth within them.
At the end of the discussion, Kenny dismissed Montana's comment about Nomu's shock absorption saving Deku's arm. I have always thought that was why. Deku punched Nomu and he absorbed the shock of the impact. Isn't that why Deku wasnt injured?
I'm not very sure, but I think the reason Deku's arm didn't break was because it was his first time using One For All on a person and he unconsciously held back.

@LettsReact it had been a long time since I watched this episode and forgot that explanation. It just really doesn't make sense. Isn't Deku injured by using his quirk for a long time after this? Did he never his another person? The shock absorption just makes more sense to me.
@@LettsReact why are you so sure about that? (genuinely asking not being sarcastic) Scientifically it makes sense it's the same concept as punching a pillow verus punching a brick wall one absorbs the kinetic energy much better than the other.

I agree with Montana I think the reason why deku didn't break his arm was due to nomus quirk. If the quirk is literally to absorb the kinetic energy produced then yes that would prevent deku from breaking his arm. Each action has an equal and opposite reaction there was no kinetic energy to be rebounded onto deku and breaking his arm as it normally would. Atleast that's how I always took how the power works but I could be wrong.
No. Later on Deku recalls the moment and realizes that he held back subconsciously because it’s the first time he’s attacked someone with OFA. He then uses that moment as his frame of reference for how he needs to feel in order to regulate his power. If he was wrong, using it as his reference wouldn’t have worked and they wouldn’t say it multiple times throughout the series without correcting him

I always think of the “more than 100%” stuff that they say in my hero is like how someone could go to the gym every day and PR but if their kid is under a car they get the adrenaline rush that lets them lift up more than their limit. They’re going beyond their limit (100%).

Let’s be honest, Bakugo doesn’t do saving (at this part of the story) He really did just want Deku out of his way. He was always gunning for Korugiri regardless
Its always fun to see people see season 1 for the first time. Nothing makes sense, the names are impossible to remember, and you have no context. I fully remember thinking All Might was cool, but that was it really. These days I literally have to fight tears every time I see All Might saving the day.
Going beyond 100% is similar to Ed and Al's reworking of equivalent exchange. You give back a little bit of yourself in addition to the normal exchange. So it goes beyond :]

Nomu is physically engineered to be that strong and fast without quirks. Aizawa erased his quirks and he was still really strong

A lot of the time when MHA refers to “xxx%” of someone’s power it’s figurative. Deku will go on to describe his own power with varying percentages as he learns to use it better but the author has discouraged over analyzing these numbers or taking them literally.

Watching this I just realized why hasn't Eri healed all might? she was able to reverse Deku's injuries and was able to restore Mirio's quirk so why can't she just heal all might so he can fight against..
1. Eri's quirk has a limit and takes a while for her to gather all the energy into her horn.
2. She isn't well trained in using her quirk.
3. All Might probably won't accept it anyways.
4. Like I said before, it takes too long for Eri to gather enough energy to rewind someone. It took around 6 months for Mirio to get rewinded. Since AM had that injury for like 5+ years, it would probably take a lot more. I'm not so sure of this point in particular so take it with a grain of salt.

Nah the shock absorption makes more sense than what we get from for Deku's arm not breaking cause he's thrown weaker hits and broken his bones. Sounds more like the author was forced to back peddled on the idea their adorable hero MC basically tried to kill someone in a panic.
The anime just over exaggerated the hit. It’s not like Deku doesn’t throw 100% smashes at people later. But narratively this is Deku’s frame of reference for how to learn to hold back. That’s intentional.

No. Later on Deku recalls the moment and realizes that he held back subconsciously because it’s the first time he’s attacked someone with OFA. He then uses that moment as his frame of reference for how he needs to feel in order to regulate his power. If he was wrong, using it as his reference wouldn’t have worked and they wouldn’t say it multiple times throughout the series without correcting him
