I already try to show gratitude especially when times are tough so I don’t get too down because I have more positives in my life than negatives. I also always listen to music because it really relaxes me. I am really bad with my phone, constantly checking it or looking things up on it, and I am aware of it and does drive me nuts! I am going to work on this because it’s not necessary to check your phone every 10 minutes! Ty Vera for these great tips! 🌸

One of my favourite things to do to feel calm and also uplifted is first thing in the morning and last thing at night, is to open the sliding glass door and take a few deep breaths. I love inhaling the fresh air, especially after rain or after the grass has been mown.....its so invigorating :)

    Hi.
Although I've been watching your videos for years, I've never commented because I simply don't comment on anything online. I consume very little internet, but today I took a few minutes to tell you that I love your videos. I watch many of them in a row. They are calming videos.
I take this opportunity to tell you that I love lotus. I ate it for the first time in England. Then I returned to Portugal 2 years ago, and I couldn't find it anywhere and my mom, who lives in France, brought it to me at Xmas and summer. Now I can find it in Portugal, both the cookies and the cream. But I am trying your rule, no junk food at the house. ;)

Hi Vera. Thanks for this video. Many years ago, a yoga teacher started adding a self-hug to our routine, and it definitely felt physically good. But that's all I felt, because it was quick and my mood was already fine. More recently, I have been going through some pretty intense personal stuff, and one day I was simply bawling and there was no one I could turn to for a hug, and so I tried hugging myself. I immediately felt a bit comforted, so I hugged my self tighter and allowed myself to just keep crying, and I comforted myself emotionally the way I would for my children or someone else I deeply care about. It was so helpful!! It really DID comfort me. ♥

I start my day by writing in my gratitude diary 10 things I'm grateful for (it does get repetitious, but heck). Then I read a bit, or watch some of my favourite videos. Yours are one of them. I dress, make my bed, and do some light exercise, then start the day. I do this about 95% of the time.

this morning, I wrote in my journal how I am grateful for the cold winter weather. I am happy for that fact that I can sit and drink my coffee, tea or cocoa. Binge holiday movies, make homemade soups and stews, enjoy crafting because I don't have to tend to outdoor chores, etc. My husband and I had to do our monthly run around last Friday. I drove this day and I love Christmas music, so I had it on the radio. About the last stop we had to make, he reached over and turned it off saying "can we just turn this s@#$ off now?" It really hurt me that he had to do it like that. He knows I love this time of year, I get emotional very easy because I am so full of joy. I am crying now just thinking of it. I am not a religious person, but I do try to live a more grateful life now. It takes so much energy to get angry over stupid drivers, rude humans, etc. Sorry I went off track, I just connected right away when you said you liked the rainy cold weather. Stay well Vera. ❤

I know I need self care when I hear you in my mind saying “maybe make a nice cup of tea...” I know it’s time to slow down, check in with myself to gain the sense of presence and feeling safe. I do this as often as I need everyday, it’s even the first thing I do when I wake up. I appreciate all you share with us (smelling for comfort is not weird at all) we all have differing 🎉comforts, and the power of the senses is essential to tune into- this how we all learned about our world as newborns- this is an innate desire and practice ❤

Regarding a technology break: I leave my phone at home when I go on my morning walk (part of my morning routine before returning home to make a mug of green tea or matcha tea latte) and turn it off for the day about an hour before going to bed. I leave it downstairs in my desk drawer. I have a no electronics rule in the bedroom.

Vera your not weird. I like feel of soft skin, especially holding my grandchild and his skin is so soft and he has the “baby” smell, it’s so relaxing. I have been very stressed lately and I was given permission from my therapist to shut my phone off for two days why my wife and I had a weekend away. We had a room at a hotel and did absolutely nothing! It was very relaxing. I also have “smart hearing aides that my phone notifications can go through so I hear my text messages. I shut all that off as well and it helps, especially when being part of a group chat and everyone responds over and over, very distracting and now I don’t pay attention any more! Check it a few times a day is all! Thank you!

I’m beginning to wait before checking my phone each morning and it’s so much more peaceful this way. I also just purchased The 6-Minute Journal you recommended in a different video for practicing Gratitude. Another tip you offered in a different video was to be aware of multitasking. I’m finding it amazing how often I am watching a movie or a RUclips video while scrolling through my phone or sitting down to read while being distracted by having a text conversation. I’m now only doing one thing at the time. It’s a little bit hard to put into practice (breaking the old habit) but it is bringing me a lot of peace and reducing a lot of stress. Thank you so much for the great content! I enjoy learning and putting into practice all of your wise advice 💛

Hi, Vera, It's Kaede here. Yesterday I suffered from period pain, so I didn't do anything yesterday. I wake up this morning and feel better, so I do my homework (writing case study report) right after waking up. It's very effective to do it in the morning. I finished it within an hour. Then, I prepared myself, changing clothes, and eating breakfast, and planning my coming studio setup. After a while, I have a rest, and here I am, watching your video. It's 10am in the morning here. After this, I will continue planning for necessary things to buy for my studio. After few years practicing minimalism, I was strict to my morning routine, but it changed to a more flexible routine with a general rule which is to slow down and enjoy every moment in the morning. I might do yoga today, doing meditation tomorrow, writing report or reading the other day. It might vary everyday, but I make sure I am mindful and enjoy every moment.

I already put my face to my shoulder I do that too lol. Yes I give myself a hug sometimes too lol although I prefer my husbands bear hugs. Yes I want to implement a morning routine as well as evening routine that would be similar but tailored for morning or evening. Such as change the type of tea to a bedtime tea, a meditation, a night time book, stretch or night time qi gong as well as journaling. Maybe not all those everyday but that is the goal. I had a plan of sitting down with my son every night to talk about, and write down, 3 good things from the day. That turned out to be difficult to do in the long run, so what we ended up doing was doing it at dinner time since we always eat dinner as a family. So every day at dinner time, we take turn around the table and say 3 things we are thankful for. Sometimes it’s something we did together, sometimes it’s something that’s happened during the day, sometimes it’s just that we are thankful for our family, sometimes it is that we are thankful for a warm and safe house or a comfortable bed to sleep in. I’m thankful for this tradition that we started because it makes us focus on good things in our lives. ❤

I appreciate you talking about personal and challenging things like comfort eating.
I’m 23 and I’ve been struggling with comfort eating/over eating for more than 10 years now. You mentioned that you stopped doing it and you’re doing really well which is great news, I’m so glad you mentioned it. I appreciate it because it makes me feel like one day I can get better as well ❤
Thanks for sharing these tips, it means more than I can ever express with words ❤

Hello Vera I just found you and subscribed of course because all of these things are wonderful and it’s 72 I need to remember self-care. I love what she said about anticipatory anxiety. I suffered from anxiety in my entire life and agoraphobia.Writing things down saved my life. I still have my anxious moments but your video made me feel so calm. Thank you. Always love your helpful tips. Every afternoon for a short break I take my plant therapy roll on called worry free and rub it on my wrists and inhale a few times. Then I take two deep breaths and do my tapping for 5 to 10 minutes. Afterwards I inhale the roll on again and I feel so much calmer. I love it!❤ This blend is amazing and I use it when I am anxious about an appointment or I know something will stress me out. Have a blessed day!

Thank you so much Vera! I would add that watching your videos are also self care for me ❤️. I started slow mornings a few years ago and it makes such a huge difference. Not just on work days, even on weekends (maybe even especially on weekends). The way you described pausing to look out the window and see the world is *exactly* what I do, right down to the way you described your thoughts. It's something so simple but so helpful. I see a vast , complex world out there that is much, much larger and important than my computer screen, phone, or whatever small thing I was getting worked up over lol. Have an amazing rest of the weekend :)

You have such a soothing presence. I like your reminders for achieving personal peace. Also, totally off topic, you have such beautiful skin. Luminous is a word thrown around but it really applies to you. I am now 70 and luckily long before it was fashionable my mother warned against too much sun exposure. I never had the patience to lay in the sun, but I was an avid bicyclist and cross country skier and wear sun screen. For age 70, my fair skin is in pretty good shape. Take care of your gift.

    Hi Vera,
Yes there are several I do already. ☺️ I wake up with The intent of remembering the details of my night dreams and I record them in a journal. Writing helps wake me up. I also like to focus on my senses, especially my hearing, when I am going to sleep at night. It helps me get out of my head and into my body and it calms everything down for sleep. (I actually recorded a podcast episode called Sensory Power this year about this very subject. So, this deeply resonated with me.) I also like to look out the window at the birds and squirrels and butterflies and ladybugs that show up on or fly by my window at the kitchen table. They always make me laugh. I also do Tai Chi which is very body focused including with breath.
I always love your suggestions for a calmer life. ❤️🙌
    Thank you Vera!

Dear Vera as always I enjoyed this video so much. The 5,4,3,2,1, technique sounds very promising. I must tell you, about the smells, they play a very important role in my life. Since I was little I had this habit of smelling my skin whenever I felt anxious or stressed.......I smelled the outside of my palms up to my elbows, slowly, pretty much like a dog does on the ground.....it calmed me down. I also love to smell my daughter's neck and obviously hag her. So you are so right, again!!!! I wish you the best in 2023.

Music is very important to me. Just the other day after singing a song in church that Twila Paris sings made me pull out, listen to, and sing some of her albums. She is very beautiful inside and out, and listening to and singing with her really made my day. Yes, I too love the comforting feel of my skin and the softness of my cat’s fur, hearing his purring, and feeling his warmth in the first part of my morning while drinking hot tea. When I think about how little money I earn, sometimes I start to feel sorry for myself but then realize some people have it a lot worse. Great lessons young lady. Keep it up!

I like to record the 10 things that I'm grateful for today at the end of the day, and I recorded them on my phone so I'll never lose it or forget it. And I don't have the stress of writing it and spelling it correctly. I just speak it as I'm doing right now. But I want to let God know that I'm very grateful for all of the abundant blessings that he gives me every single day. And you are one of them!

Hello from Athens Greece. Thanks for the amazing video. By the way, i have noticed that the worst time to watch the news, is the first hour after you wake up, and even worse, a couple of hours before tou go to sleep. Just to keep me up to date, i just hear the most important news from the radio in the middle of the day, and that s it.

Hi, Vera! 😊I loved the hug yourself habit!!! Loooved it! I am single (by choice) and that sounded wonderful. I must confess that I tried it and it was really, really satisfying and relaxing. Thank you so much for sharing that🙏💙
I love to wake up early and the first thing I love to do is open the windows. Being summer or winter, I have to feel the morning air even if it’s just for an hour in wintertime. Social media in the morning only Instagram because I ONLY follow artists, so it’s a wonderful way to start the day with lots of shared inspiration. I don’t check my iPad all the time and I watch very little tv.
I also loved that tip related to music. I actually listened to the song you referred to and it’s so beautiful. I love sad songs, they actually relax me. And my favourite are Celtic songs.
