I read a very interesting graphic novel called "My Friend Dahmer" written by one Derf Backderf (real first name John). He went to school with Dahmer from junior high through high school and not only tells the tale of their own interactions and his behavior but also Backderf's ideas about how Jeffrey was shaped by his mother's mental instability and obvious preference for Jeffrey's younger brother, plus Jeffrey's struggle with realizing and then accepting that he was gay. Excellent read.
Backderf also questioned why the adults in Jeffrey's life, especially the teachers and other school staff, managed to remain clueless about what was going on with him, especially that he would spend the entire school day drunk while visiting his various alcohol stashes.

Growing up in Milwaukee, I remember Jeffrey quite well. One of his victims was the kid brother of a school mate of mine 😢
