I can see how the 'ideal' scenario would be best. In our case, I struggled for a long time trying to find a Betrayal Trauma therapist. Apparently here, in my neck of the Pacific Northwest woods, there just aren't any. WA state, yes. But driving to another state once a week is completely impractical, both logistically and financially. I eventually found a counselor not too far from us. He is in an office with two other therapists. We saw him together for a while then he suggested the woman in his office for me to see individually. She was a LMFT and very kind, but had no clue about how to really help me process Betrayal Trauma. Bryan DOES have a grasp on BT, so now, we see him either together (disclosure, impact letter, restitution letter, etc) and separately (EMDR, etc). We both liked him from the outset, and he's helped us quite a lot. I'm so grateful that he has helped my husband with the (enormous) damage of childhood enmeshment. Mr. Jay's wise advice has helped too, often oddly, coming at just the right moment.
