Boy, Mr. Jay, how I wish I/we had seen this just after D-Day. Unfortunately it looks like it was posted just before my discovery. But the advice is so correct--speaking from a point of being 10+ months post apocalypse experience. On the ‘red flag’ issue, I knew for decades that there was something desperately wrong-and I confronted him-all I got was gaslighting and lies. To others who ‘feel’ in their gut that something is wrong, take action. Insist on the truth. I allowed myself to be gaslit and began to believe it was all in my head. I lost 30 years to that….

Yeah, a slow boat to China, right.
I really thought - or hoped - that my husband would take rowing seriously.
But apparently I was the only one who kept getting blisters on my hands and strains in my arms.
Now that he accidentally exposed himself, I got off that boat. For all I care, he can continue rowing in circles and raving loudly about his skills as a sailor.
To any cheaters who may be reading this, take two things particularly seriously if you really want to save your relationship:
doesn't feed us the facts and true scope of cheating drop by drop. This just starts our trauma over and over again, and the injuries become more and more difficult to heal. Your feelings of shame and guilt are not our fault, you have been selfish long enough.
If these feelings still keep you from doing the right thing and being truly honest and transparent with us, you are not safe for us because then you are clinging to lying and minimizing in one way or another.
The second thing is: every "mistake" you make, every relapse into old behavior, could be the last thing we can forgive you for. Next time we might be gone. Do you want your relationship? Then prove that to us, forever.
You may have proven through your cheating that you can activate a lot of energy and ideas, so we can certainly expect you to do that NOW and for US.
Otherwise, we will continue to feel like “less than.”

The thing that I can’t get past is that they had a relationship in the midst of my relationship with them. I’ll never be privy to the true details or feelings. It’s so much to ask another person to accept.
