    Thanks for rating :)
(The lead guitar was recorded in timing but the metronome click was added afterwhile when editing the video so there is little latency, sounds a bit out.)
Diminished scales are easy on guitar because they use symetrical and regular positions. It goes pretty same for diminished arpeggios.
As long as you have 4 different notes I should say:
    the diminished 7th arp. (1 b3 b5 bb7).
The diminished arpeggio only have 3 notes
    (1 b3 b5) repeated over the fingerboard.
So to make it easier, let focus on practicing the exercises.
They are easy to visualize. If you like agressive tones and guitarists such as Malmsteen, Friedman, Hammet or Bellas,
this lesson is for you. Intermediates to pretty advanced level guitar players, think to check also the video part II.
The goal of the lesson isn't theorectical but only to give a few hints and ideas.
    TAB:
    i182.photobucke...
    Ex1:
Diminished (7th) arpeggios over 3 strings (G,B,E 1st) and how to move your shift.
I alternate picking (down-up...) on the E and G strings. I sweep pick the passing string (B). So if the last note was picked upstroke
then the B string is naturaly picked also upstroke and so on. You noticed then that it's the same parttern repeated over and over across
te fingerboard. You don't need to rehearsal till the 23th like I do. If you're novice, simply go and go back with 2 or 3 shifts changes.

    Ex2:
Diminished (7th) arpeggio over 3 strings (D,G,B) and how to move your shift.
Basically the same than Ex1. Its good to know differents positions for the same notes.
    TAB:
    i182.photobucke...
    EX3:
    6 strings sweeping pattern, fig1
You can hammer-on or alternate pick when there are two notes on the same strings. Then follow the motion of the pick and
play upstrokes the following strings when descending the arpeggio and of course picking downstrokes when ascending.
Think to mute with the right hand palm so that unsolicited strings do not ring.
    EX4:
    6 strings sweeping pattern, fig2
Same then Ex3 but with a different position that may fit better for some hands... Well, the right hand's middle
finger is solicited here instead of the ring finger like in Fig1.
Sorry I forgot to tape the lick played faster, however it sounds exactly same then the Ex3 fig1.
Dont forget to favorite this lesson if you like it!

I want to thank you very much for both of these diminished arpeggio lessons ROO, they have helped me a freat deal. For some reason I always had trouble with diminished licks and scales but now that I have seen and heard you do this (thanks for the TABs too) I find it very easy to perform myself and am working this into my practice routine daily. You are right that the patterns are very easy and symetrical, and they are giving me a much more distinctive sound to my soloing. Great job!

Diminished Areggios for begginers? When I started playing guitar the first thing I learned wasn't how to play diminished arpeggios or any arpeggios. Now I can and I actually use that run all the time. Great Job

    diminished triad is R - b3 - b5, dimished 7th is R - b3 - b5 - bb7. you can also get "half diminished seventh "which are also referred to as m7b5 chords, R - b3 - b5 - b7

@jadilus : I consulted a friend of mine who is a guitar virtuoso and music theory PhD student, and the general consensus is that one ought to follow the other; you should be able to be in command of both learning/playing by ear and being able to visualize the patterns in some way other than looking down at your fretboard. Different parts of your brain are at work here and you derive a greater understanding and familiarity with the music that way.

@delt01 It refers to the position of the fifth in the scale. A Locrian, or diminished, scale only has four notes G, A, Bb, & D, thus there is no "perfect" fifth, it just makes a pattern of flat fifths giving it a creepy feel. An example of a perfect fifth would be in the key of "C" (CDEFGAB) would be G because it is the actual fifth note in the scale as opposed to the flat or diminished fifth in the locrian/diminished scale.

I use Jim Dunlop, they are very good. Tortex is also a very good one too( i think it's 0.88mm ) nylon are okay to me, but i prefer think ones for for sweep and one string picking..i think that the nylons are really good for strumming cords (mostly for Acoustic guitars)

The sweeps he's doing here you can use to play over diminished chords only. Use minor for minors, maj for maj chords etc, etc.

I learned the sweeps he did in the begining by ear their pretty hard heres the tab
its only on the bottom four strings
    e|-4-1-----------4-|
    b|-----3-------3---|
    g|-------4---4-----|
    d|---------3-------|
and he keeps on moving down four frets everytime he sweeps.
lol thanks for playing it slow man otherwise I would have never figured it out.

the chords of the scale? the "harmonized diminished scale" (if you could call it that) has only diminished chords in it, so are you asking if someones written a song with only diminished chords in it? if so i hope the answers no

it all depends on what is important to you...i played for 7 years and giged for 1 before i ever learned any theory...i am studying at berklee college of music now and i realized how beneficial thoery is...you can learn all the scales and arpeggios and tapping licks you want but when i comes down to it and your rhythm guitarist plays a C(b9) chord, do you know what kind of dim7 arppeggio works over that?

    Thank you!

  • @bk8100
    @bk8100 15 лет назад

No, it is the notes of the chord played individually. You must know how chords are made to understand this. To understand how chords are made you need to know the Major or Ionian scale. So, if you want to learn to play lead, learn the Pentatonic positions, all 5. Memorize where the roots are in the patterns. Then learn Modes, when playing in minor (98 percent of rock) the roots are in the same spot. Roots are a safe zone to end phrasing with, gives it resolve. Start there, then explore Co5ths.

AMajor : A C# D. if you play the arpeggio you'll play the A C# and D. as you want, order the want where you want. that's all and it's pretty complicate cause it's not about a lonley chord, but billions. If you don'tknow the notes on your fretboard, you can't really go too far.

  • @jc453Alpha
    @jc453Alpha 14 лет назад

@BeefSupreme288 Honestly its not a matter of 'either or' in the case of music. Learning by ear means traing to hear what is proper sounding and becoming acquainted with the sound of the notes. Understanding what you're hearing is the other half of the equation. When you understand, you increase creativity, and when you perceive your creativity correctly, others appreciate what you now have. Trained talent.

  • @BeefSupreme288
    @BeefSupreme288 14 лет назад

@jadilus you posted your comment 4 months ago but, stating that learning guitar by ear is best, but I believe that is wrong, because the mind gets used to hearing more complicated noises faster, by using tabs. Which then of course using your ear to play becomes easier, at a faster rate. Using your ear is good, but its not an ideal solution, if you want to become better faster. (not Scientifically Proven for either side of the argument though, seems to make sense to me).

God damn , ofcourse arpeggios are not only for fast playing but we are talking about sweep arpeggios right now. And what you do with it doesn't matter you can use them for any type of music fast or slow whatever. But in a lesson i think you should show them fast too.

@OXCerberusX0 um, frets are symmetrical, its not like a piano, so you just play some frets away to transpose it... oh, I just saw your tuning. Well, why would you use such tuning? What bands play like that?? Anyways, diminishing is a sequence of perfect fourths, intervals, fourths in chromatic scale. Its not like you need help to figure such a simplistic figure....
