My fellow Greeks. You know how ouzo looks like water. And when we were younger we thought it was water and used to drink it 😂
That is actually something that happens to a lot of people by accident (they forget which bottle has the Ouzo and drink a lot of it thinking it is water) or by practical joke (somone swaps the water bottle with an ouzo filled plastic bottle). Funny.
happened to me as a child
My grandpa used to keep it in the fridge, and I was like, "oh nice, cold water on a hot summer day!", and just chugged it. I don't know how long I was coughing.
In my home island Crete, we used to brew Raki. It's similar to Tsipouro. We used to store the Raki into used water bottles. When I was a kid once around 10 years old, in a feast I took one of these bottle cause I thought it water and drunk like a full glass. That was my first drunk experience and I didnt even ask for it lmao
One sip is a mistake, 2 sips is curiosity, 3+ sips is pretending you don't know it isn't water. :D

Ouzo and tsipouro (suoma... im guessing is the brand?) is much more enjoyable with ice and water guys 😂😂 "Honey rum" or rakomelo is also delicious warm, especially if you have a sore throat
And honey rum goes perfectly with simple donuts (only sugar)

Ice with tsipouro???? Only if it has anise. In any other case, just drink something else.
I drink them plain.... And if you eat something with them you eat sea food usually squid.
I prefer it with I've but not water
don't eat just something: squid, octopus, olives and vegetables

with ouzo and tsipouro you HAVE to eat, NEVER with empty stomach. and you can drink them straight or mixed with water or ice cubes

When I lived in Germany there was this Pizza place owned by a very nice Greek man. If you came with your family at the end of the meal he brought everyone, including little ones a shot of Ouzo as a digestif.

Not even kidding, when I was working at a liqueur store, I had customers ask for 300 little bottles and refuse to just buy regular bottles. They were from India and had some family party. I just gave them the 30 bottles we had and sent them on to another outlet

Aniceed=glykanisos(γλυκάνισος) in greek so it's ouzo with glykanisos

Ouzo is best drank cold over ice while dancing and throwing plates, after a nice Meze with a cup of Greek coffee to accompany it. Metaxa is basically a fortified wine but unusual in that fortified wines are usually Muscat wine fortified with brandy spirits (distilled spirits from various sources but usually from Chenin Blanc or Columbard grapes), Metaxa on the other hand, is distilled spirits from Muscat grapes blended with wine made from Muscat grapes often from the same vineyard with both being aged separately before being blended. The flavours are super concentrated and as Muscat grapes have high sugars the spirits produced has high alcohol by volume.

Ouzo and tsipouro are usually paired with a nice seafood platter and the honey rum we usually drink it warm during winter..

Honeyrum is 10x better when your drink it while it's hot. Ouzo goes well with water+ice or sour cherry.

After a night out drinking in Greece we go to Athens public meat market and eat a hot soup called "patsas" which is made out of cow's stomach chopped into small pieces and dressed with a vinegar/garlic sauce !!! When u are used to eat as mosr bizzare foods or drinks ie ouzo its qujte soothing and tasty !!!
Ouzo kai tsipouro needs ice.. there are a lot more greek alcohol drinks that you could taste! I loved ur reaction btw! Happy you visit our country

Souma is the brand... the actual alcohol its τσιπουρο or chepuro for ya... the honey rum its ρακομελο its chepuro boiled with honey... and Metaxa its koniak but also guys you had to try some of our beers too :)

The honey rum you should try it heated. it tastes best made on the spot mixing honey and raki or rum in a pot.

Licorice flavored alcohol seems to be a repeating flavor in many countries.
i tried rakomelo in greece and IT WAS SO GOOD.... regretting so much on the fact that i didnt get to bring any of those back home :'((((

Souma is the company name the alcoohol is Tsipouro and its the cleanest one here ,usually we drink this with some good sea food

I love black licorice alcohol. Specifically black sambuca, its so delicious. I made my own drink it mimics tiger tiger icecream (orange and black licorice) its Orange dream, icecream and sambuca turned into a milk shake its amzing, will knock you on your butt and doesnt really even taste like alcohol

Ouzo is like french pastis but we put water in pastis... Very refreshing.
Also the Tsipouro that you guys hated it's taste the most, is the most common of all these drinks here in Greece :)
