I think "trends" should be like "hey, here's a new way to style this," rather than "absolutely do and dont wear this and that." Not wearing something because it's no longer on trend is wasteful. As I'm learning. So you're right! Wear whatever you want! Loved this video! You always have great content! 😊
I think trend does mean “hey look at this new thing” but it’s not mandatory. I don’t think anyone should listen to anyone but themselves when it comes to fashion.
That's a cool take! Just styling differently
Home decor too. No one should have to buy new hardware and light fixtures for the entire house because the old stuff is “outdated” so wasteful!
@@BloodSweatandFearsunfortunately ots not just ppl telling ppl its ppl shaming ppl
@@casswashwash1070 But that’s still something you can just ignore.
The funny thing about fashion is if you wait long enough, the outdated trends become "vintage and retro". Cheetah print and grunge forever!
Reality is sometimes jarringly different to what's trendy and popular online.
I see headlines about like "The Perfect Winter (fill in the blank)" and its something that will be totally impractical in Minnesota where I live. Its hard to be stylish when warm coats cover everything up, especially if you want to be warm and practical. I just want to be warm in winter lol
@sarahkinsey5434 there's so many cute warm coats tho
@@sarahkinsey5434 can definitely agree modern trendy coats usually cater to mild climates. Vintage 60s and 50s coats are gorgeous and practical for freezing temps. For pure practicality, I'd suggest Columbia or Patagonia coats.
@@cozyninos I have a down Eddie Bauer coat the goes down to my knees. Got it on clearance too!
@@sarahkinsey5434 that's a pretty sweet deal, def looks toastyy
I've said it before and I'll say it again: 2014 tumblr soft grunge is the best part of 2010s fashion by far.
I'm from a 3rd world country, all the trends that are outdated are shipped here every year, you can find it in thrift stores and low cost shops.
I find ot funny how influencers say "plad skirts are out of style, don't wear it!" While here is like the latest hottest thing haha
Me too, but I see wealthy teenagers do this "first world influencer" fashion/talking.
Skinny jeans never truly went out here, outside the internet. And I laughed when people started saying ballet flats were back, cause I've never seen them coming out. These two are just female workers staples
@@NataliaSteck98 true! Ballet flats were always useful for women working at offices in high heels, so when their shift is done they take their heels and replace it with flats to catch the bus.
Plaid skirts?? Those have been a classic since the 40s
@@katc2040Right. I’m confused because I still see people wearing plaid skirts.
Same here, the first time I heard that dad sneakers and teddy bear jackets are out of fashion I was like "but I'm just starting to seeing it here" lol
I think this is what separates dopamine dressing from chasing trends. If you’re wearing what you love, 1) your confidence immediately makes you look super fashionable and cool and 2) it really won’t matter what anyone else thinks because YOU love it so much. I pretty much exclusively wear an all black/gothic/alt aesthetic now because it makes me feel AMAZING and I frequently get compliments on my style/vibe. Which is wild because I don’t live in a city where that aesthetic is common.
I wore a very tumblr grunge outfit to a concert recently and I honestly felt so cute! I missed that style so much
"Online trends are very different from in real life trends" absolutely agree! The Fashion People on social media have their reasons to be always on the cutting edge of trends, but anyone else in real life just wants to use the clothes they bought until they either grow tired of them or they fall apart. No one is throwing clothes (and money) away at every whim of the fashion industry. Some of the people talking about trends on the internet do need to get out and touch grass though (and maybe look at real life people's shoes while they're at it 😂).
I will never stop wearing teddy coats! They are too comfy to let go of lol. I also agree about the tumblr era grungy look. One of my fave styles to see or wear. 😊
peter pan collars and the padded headband are both so core to my style now!!
I just think of the long history of those styles, especially their role in 1960s fashion, which I love. For me, thinking of it as "vintage-inspired" fashion makes it feel impossible for it to be "out of style," because you're already referencing something from the past, that's the point!!
Liz and alexa crossover!!
I love the Peter Pan collar! It's a shame that higher neck structured items look horrendous on me, because I think that twee style is so cute.
I find it embarrassing that other people bought a trend they hated, wore it, and now are embarrassed to wear it? Make it make sense!! Thanks for the video!! ❤️
The thing is I don’t think people hate trends when they get them. It’s just they realize they don’t like them when they become unpopular. It’s like rose tinted glasses.
@@emismith4655 possibly, but it’s the embarrassing part for me!
Cheetah print and snake print if done right are definitely neutrals and never go out of style. Skinny jeans tucked into a boot with an oversized sweater is timeless. Some things will always be cool
I’ve told my husband a few times when I wear something that someone else might not like: “I don’t know these people, probably won’t run into them again, so I’m wearing what I want if I like what I’m wearing.”
I love my teddy bear coat! Mines from Urban Outfitters, it's comfy and cute and warm, what's not to love?? I also still wear my Fila Distruptors - not sketchers but similar. I have dodgy ankles and they're incredibly comfortable, simple as.
Omgg Filas I forgot about thatt idek where my pair went
If somebody judges you for the type of tennis shoe you wear, they need to reevaluate themselves😂 sketchers are cute! I totally agree
I wear mostly tennis shoes and have several pairs of Skechers . I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both knees. My Skechers are comfy and don't cause knee pain. Plus, I think they are cute. Wear what you want, not what others think you should wear.
it takes me SO LONG to decide if i like a trend or not, when i start wearing it it's already outdated 😂 but then i wear it because i really like it and i don't buy things i don't use !
love how you've been talking about how we can incorporate "outdated" trends :) really awesome way to reduce clothing waste
the way i still love ALL of these too 😂let's match in our teddy bear coats and leopard skirts as soon as it gets cold pls!!! 🐻🤎🍂
I still wear my Sketchers..I'm from NYC..and we don't care about someone's fashion decisions. They're great when you're standing on your feet on the subway
The hate for sketchers is still rooted in classism, and it's made obvious by the fact that ppl will wear a shoe that looks exactly like a sketchers shoes, but still hate on them. I wear my sketchers all the time and get compliments on them.
I’m excited to see what styles I’ve been wearing this whole time that are now considered outdated 😂😂
I kinda still like cold shoulder tops. They just look good on me and make me feel cute and kinda flirty.
Agreed!!
I live in real life. I don't have social media so I'm not absorbing or influenced by the ridiculous "trend" police lol. I've always been a proponent of wear what you want, be unique and express yourself with fashion. Never be a blind follower. 😊
I still love everything you mentioned! I consider leopard print a classic. It's always in style.
wait, I still love the teddy bear chicken nuggie jacket, which I never bought, but now I'm excited to find one at the thrift!
Ok I don't live anywhere extreme but it gets cold where I live and the teddy coat is 10/10 at home in the winter. not an outdoor coat bc it's not water resistant but no complaints here haha
I don't have the exact same coat as the 1st one, but I have a teddy bear coat and it is be best thing ever to wear, especially inside the house. My house doesn't have a good heating system and during winter gets a bit cold, so I need to wear a warm jacket inside and the teddy jackets are very warm, but still give me freedom of movement. Also I just feel like I am wearing a blanket, which I was something I would put over my back before I got my teddy coat.
Honestly, i never liked the puffy headband, still don’t. It reminds me of the head pieces that nuns wear, just without the black veil part (if that makes sense), but i would never shit on anyone if they loved it! I’m sure i wear plenty of things that people hate but idc cause i love it.
I literally got my Skechers because you mentioned in one of your shoe collection videos how comfy they are! I wear them on my morning walks!!
I love Peter Pan collars! I only have a couple but I'm always on the lookout for them. I don't know if it's trendy anymore or not but I'm obsessed with puff sleeve tops still and I'll find any excuse to wear them. The bigger the better imo.
I went Christmas shopping yesterday and manufacturers think those Teddy coats are in style cuz there are a lot of them in stores. I bought one used recently and its SO warm. Temps were in the 50s and I was sweating. 😅 You inspire me wearing trends that are "outa style" It's very cool to ignore the the push to conform.
I am going to wear what I want, what I like, what I feel comfortable in and I don't care what other people think... If they don't like it they don't have to look at me😊
One negative comment - even online - can really yank my confidence with wearing something. Thanks for talking about that!
Teddy coats are alive and trendy on the Canadian Aritza’s website…and most are sold out! I love those coats! Ppl should wear what they want and what makes sense to their life! 😘 thanks for the great video!
I didn't know teddy coats were outdated... my cousin gave me one that she didn't like anymore and I LIVE in it. Can't believe it went through the trend cycle so quickly because they were literally everywhere just a year ago and now they're out again 😑I'll be wearing mine anyway.
Agree with you on the grunge style, that and goth style is my every day look so I don't care if it's out. As for animal prints, I wear tiger (orang and black or black and white tiger stripes) on occasion. I've worn other animal prints but sometimes they just don't suit me, cow print for example doesn't really vibe with me at all, so whether its trendy or not, I think people should go with the animal print that suits *them* now the animal print that's trendy, because that's what you'll look and feel best in!
I was surprised there wasn't a floral specific trend that you mentioned as outdated, usually every trend cycle there is SOME kind of floral trend going around, whether its tiny florals versus huge floral prints, or cartoon florals versus more realist floral prints, but there was no mention of outdated florals. At this point, I don't know WHAT kind of florals are "trendy" but I suspect the 3 floral fabrics and accessories will be on the way out because there were a few trends of them going around. I also wonder if we'll see the ride of fruit prints as a counter to whatever the current floral trends are (or maybe fruit prints are on the way out because of Pyjama-Gate). I dunno, it's kind of funny and amusing to see the trend cycles now that I find myself not trying to follow them as much. Now I'm more conscious and try to think of my own tastes rather than gloming onto whatever popular because a lot of the time the thing that's popular doesn't actually look good on me and then I'm stuck with a garmen I start to resent because there's no way I can style it nicely! Now I am more conscious and choose my wardrobe carefully
The teddy coat trend peak was like 2019, not a year ago.
@@katc2040 well, my cousin gave me the coat last year and she is trendier than I am 💁🏻♀️ plus, who knows how time works since pandemic anyway, I cant tell 2019 from 2022 at this point, its just time-soup. The coat is a 10/10 though
My outdated trend: gladiator sandals. Are they unpractical? yes. Do they give you terrible looking sunburns or tans? yes. Is it difficult or impossible to wear them in any style besides 'boho chic'? yes. But I still love them. And if I could find any, I would buy and wear them.
If nothing else, this video should be inspiration to take loved pieces that maybe feel out of style, and put them in storage for the future.
I think back now to so many pieces that I got rid of years ago that I wish I could have back!
Cheetah print is definitely a neutral. I pair it with everything including stripe patterns because stripes are also a neutral in my head. And denim shorts with black sheer or fishnet stockings still looks so cute. And the peter pan collar - I still own and wear the dress that I have on in my profile picture and I think with the Wednesday tv show and her classic outfit is having a bit of a moment again right now
I love your uplifting attitude and message toward fashion. I’m a mom of teens and I sometimes feel ‘out of style’. I’m mostly just trying to look pulled together and feel comfortable. Who cares if random kids think I’m lame for what I wear lol.
at the end of 2019 I saw videos say uggs would be out of style in 2020 and they’re still super popular
I wear sketchers everyday to work and always get compliments from patients (like, during the appt they will literally stop and say “omigosh those are so cute”)! I actually take it as a good sign that tiktokers don’t like em 😂💕
omg you looked absolutely stunning in those headbands!! I think they really suit your face! :)
alexa, the padded headbands look really good on you. please do not listen to the sore losers who said it looks stupid on you. i always thought you made them work the best out of everyone, and that second photo of yours with the white headband looks adorable
I love headbands. You looked amazing in them. Pull them back out girl & rock them!!!
Ugh, I can't with people who shame others for dressing "outdated". Trends should be a fun way of trying out different styles and items, not strict rules to follow and feel embarrased over.
I'm also sick of micro trends dictating the cycle. At this point you either have to be: A) rich, B) a fast fashion shopaholic or C) have all your time go into researching trends and thrifting to keep up with all of them. When most normal people finally get around to trying a trend out it's already considered "over" in the fashion world. You don't even have the time to wear it properly before it's out. It's honestly frustrating if you try to keep up.
Edit: Chunky headbands for life! I just started wearing them a year ago and I'm definitely not stopping. I absolutely love them, modern Renaissance vibes! Peter pan collars, too. Thay are so cute, I'm not stopping wearing them anytime soon.
I loved the disco pants so bad! I even thrifted some and wanted to live my soft grunge core, but as a heavy butt girl they made my cheeks SO FREAKING FLAT i was genuinely upset that they didn’t fit me right at all 😭😭😭
I miss my long necklaces. Like the pendant ones. I really like the line they create on an outfit
I still wear my Skechers all the time. They are comfortable! I don't care what children think about them lol.
❤ I don’t have time for trends 😂
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I think online people make it seem like it’s the end of the world to wear something outdated or not be into trends, but in reality nobody cares what people are wearing outside!
I totally remember your cow, print slacks and they were so cute. So sad you got rid of them.
I am so back and forth on the Cheetah and Leopard print. It used to be my identity, and I'm slowly refining it a little bit. I think fast fashion animal print stuff is going to always look cheap, but the higher end and vintage animal print is going to be just the right touch.
I have a cow print cropped jacket i bought off poshmark and every single time i wear it, i get so many compliments on it! Its a timeless print, who cares if its in style or not
I'm sooo with you on the Tumblr soft grunge style! I haven't been able to participate in it originally, and I'm obsessed with this look since then)) It never stopped looking cool to me and I'd really like to wear more of it too😅
I always adored how you looked in headbands! Got me into them!!
We should be free minded to wear anything we like, without considering what others think or say. Thanks for your fun video. Greetings from Italy 💖🍀
I loooove teddy bear coats! Theyre just so comfy and amazing!
Love love love- Thankyou for being a voice of reason amongst fashion content creators! Plus you have a great sense of style and enjoy fashion you can do both!
I love my white skechers! They are sooo comfy.
Omg i will forever love those wide brim felt hats. They really complete a look.
i am loving padded headbands right now! searching for some more atm
I have my own snuggly version of the teddy coat and I’ve lost weight so it’s super sized. But when I’m under the weather or need some luvin I wear it. It’s like a big hug
I can’t help but think of Carrie with the band tee + cheetah print combo. I wish she would dress like this again!
A few weeks ago, I remembered that I wanted disco pants when I was in high school. I didn't know what they were called, so I couldn't look for them. I didn't know anything about fashion, really. Now they're on my thrift wishlist.
I have been wearing my Sketcher's DeLites for so many years and I can order then online and they always fit and are so comfortable. I have the slide-ons in grey, black, navy and white. The other styles don't fit my fit right so I go back to my classics. I hope they never stop manufacturing them! Wear what you love and feel comfortable in. If you don't smile when you get dressed and look in the mirror before you walk out the door, then you aren't being true to you. Trends be damned! Thanks for the fun and uplifting video!
Same I *love* my sketchers and I wear em at work allll the time and just… love em. I even get compliments from patients who are much older and thus much wiser :.)💖
I love Skechers! I have so many & will never care if they aren’t in style 😊
You look so cute in those puffy headbands. Like you're wearing a lowkey medieval crown.
I struggle with shoes fitting me and I live in my sketchers. Glad you did this video as we all need to wear what we like and own, rather than where it short term
i love sketchers!!!!!!! theyre soooo comfy and affordable compared to other shoe brands
I’m so here for Alexa’s grunge era 🖤
Love the tumbler grunge era. I definitely still incorporate some of that in my current style, mixed with 90's aesthetic. Thrifting has been so fun lately!
Grunge is from the 90's though right?
@@sharroon7574 pretty much! It's a slight variation of it. Grunge with a little more thought into styling lol
2014 Tumblr Grunge Girl will always be in my heart
I loved the padded headbands on you so much I bought them!
Omggg the fedora hats look so good on you!!
I'm bringing cheetah print flats with me on vacation. I contemplated buying ballet round toe flats that are trending now but I have two old pointed toe flats that I would not have to break in and that are still cute!
Because there's insta/tiktok/youtube/twitter there will be people online who say "that's outdated" but no one and I mean no one irl will ever approach you and say something like, "your disco pants are outdated." Even if they did, it's that person that's weird. Wear what you want
I miss the 2014 tubmlr style so much! I was 13 at the time so didn't get to properly try it
You should do a wearing tumbler grunge outfits for a week, but like a daily vlog style.
Omg if you love puffy headbands you should wear them! I wish I could pull them off (but my head is too small) they’re sooo cute 💕 I’ve actually seen people wearing them nowadays. I think they’re such an old trend they’re back in style now. Also Peter Pan collars are very timeless, at least in the vintage coquette styles. People that love them love them.
The birthday cake in the back gives me life
Comfy and cozy is always first in my style, so I love a teddy bear coat. I don't actually have one as a coat but I have a pale blue sweatshirt of the teddy bear fabric that I got from Poshmark. I feel like the padded headbands kind of look like a cute hat. I don't wear them myself because my head shape makes headbands slide off but they're so cute on you.
Those collars seem timeless to me idk. Whether it’s regular or oversized, they’re so pretty to me
Love the soft grunge also love the first cow shirt u showed
Alexa! Your makeup looks so beautiful ❤️
Alexa you should totally wear the puffy headbands again! I thought you looked amazing in them! As someone who doesn’t accessorize very much, I love a good headband!
I've always loved the grunge look, I was young when it first came out and I still have fond memories of that time. I see a lot of similar items to the teddy bear coat in the thrift stores. I also see a lot of fast fashion items from Shein too. I tend to avoid that stuff and just stick with items that I love, outdated or not.
I’d love if you did more whimsigoth/soft grunge looks!
I remember wanting Fila Disrupters so so bad when I was in high school.
I just bought a new pair of skechers! Love the shoes!
I have a teddy jacket that looks like clouds! It’s so soft!
3:45 okay I HAVE to say I bought almost these exact sketchers in 2014 totally predicting this whole trend and then when the chunky fila sneakers came along I felt so validated lol
Honestly, I love the teddy bear jackets, peter pan collars and cow print. They are so adorable.
I don't have a teddy bear jacket cause I live in a very hot coutry, but if I lived in a colder place I would wear it all the time.
I wear a oversized Peter Pan collar at least twice a week lol
the headbands really suited you tbh
I dont have a teddy coat, its more like a teddy hoodie but i refuse to get rid of it. Its so comfy in fqll and winter i love it
100% YES to cheetah being a neutral. I’ve been saying this for years and people make fun of me. LOLOLOL
Animal print is 100% a neutral and I still love it. I also still love blanket scarves and chunky knit infinity scarves. Ohio gets cold and they are cozy!
Oooh, about the sketchers, I FINALLY got sneakers with a simmilar vibe and I'm loving how comfortable these are. When it first started trending, back to 2019, I found those cute (specially the ones with some pop of colors), but they weren't quite my vibe (I'm a converse all star girl ahah), so it doesn't seemed something that would be a great purchase. Nowadays my routine tends to request more walks and sometimes standing all day, so I was desesperated for something comfortable (my legs were dying with all stars lol) and I got one of these! And omg I feel so great and STYLISH!!! Really don't care if this trend is over and if I hopped into this later, it fits my style and routine :)
7:42 the Peter Pan collar is so cute!
Your jacket is stunning 😍
I love sketchers d'lites
They are my favorite shoes
I love the felt style hats. I felt like it added a more dressed up aspect to simple aspects. I’m in south Texas so it doesn’t get super cold here often and it steps up the shorts, sweater, and boots look and helps it not look like I’m about to go rodeo. I even like the woven wide brim hats (it gets so hot here) with how it gives something extra to summer outfits. I know the cliche for these is the fall brunch girl look but there are 100 other ways to style these to be hat give an edgy vibe to boring outfits. Like how you said the silky leopard maxi skirt, throw on a distressed graphic tee, a hat, and converse high tops and it’s a whole different creature from the 2010 look.
