  • The first in our series on the Roland CompuRhythm CR-8000, the vintage analog drum machine first released in 1981. Billed by some as a poor man’s 808, the CR-8000 may represent one of the last undiscovered jewels in Roland's drum machine pantheon.

    Nice Video! Thats my personally modded CR-8000 you have shown in the video. It is a beast once modded - the sounds you can get out of it are fantastic.

      Paul(?) very cool! Which of the modified CR-8000s is yours? Is it used in any of the videos featured on your channel, which by the way are great. If there are could I link to them in my video description? I really like the videos comparing the VCS-3 to the Syntrx.

    I've got a CR-8000 as well. Will follow your video series with great interest. Thank you for putting those up 👍

      I looked over your Repair playlist on your channel and saw that you have a couple of Sequential T8 videos, do you have a T8? They are wonderful machines. I have a track featuring a T8, played by my buddy Brooks Mosher, in one of my Pro-One videos, I believe it is the "Introducing" video.

      @@telefunkian Yes I have one. It is not working and in pretty bad state. It needs a complete restoration...
      edit: will watch your Pro-One video introduction

    I love these series. I've got a broken polysix sitting in the cupboard. Makes me want to have a go at it, but i just don't have the room ☹️

      Thanks for watching and for the encouraging feedback. Beware, synths take up 5 times the room when they are disassembled! (or ten times if you ask my wife) The good news is that you have a poly six, nice machine and well worth fixing IMHO.

      @@telefunkian I had it from new in the 80s. I opened it up a few years ago but it was like you said - and I was too concerned about loosing bits. I'll probably end up getting a Kiwi set at some point. Just need to make room...

    That was a German/EU Schuko (Schutzkontakt) plug not a UK plug.
    Also i'd really strongly encourage you to reconsider retrobrighting, peroxides break polymer links and embrittle plastics.

      @telefunkian  Год назад +1

      Thanks for pointing that out in time for me to correct it in the power supply video I am preparing! WRT retrobright, you are of course correct, I went for a mixed approach using diluted peroxide and then mechanical abrasion (Sanding to 2000 grit), which you can only do if the case has a flat finish. The case was and still is brittle, I had to glue several broken attachment points and fix a crack but I think the result is substantially improved, you can judge in future videos.

    Very nice work!
    I'm really looking forward to the next CR8000 videos, especially regarding calibration! although I own almost all of the old Roland drum machines (except TR-700) I find the CR8000 the most interesting of them all and I have 3 of these and now I want to mod one of them with voice swapping, all voice mods and UniPulse midi...
