I wrote for luck
They sent me you
I sent for juice
You give me poision
I hold the line
You form the queue
Try anything hard
Is there anything else you can do?
Well, not much, I've not been trained
I can sit and stand, beg and roll over
I don't read
I just guess
There's more than one sign
But it's getting less
And you were wet
But you're getting dryer
You used to speak the truth
But now you're liar
You used to speak the truth
But now you're clever
And I wrote for luck
And they sent me you
And I sent for juice
You give me poision
I hold the line
You form the queue
Try anything hard
Is there anything else you can do?
And you were wet
But you're getting dryer
You used to speak the truth
But now you're clever
You used to speak the truth
But now you're clever
And when it's hot
You start to melt
Mm, 'cause you're not made of jean
You're made of chocolate
And when it's cold
You tend to crack
You keep on piling out
Not puttin' back

There ain’t a single music video that has touched such an accurate depiction of the acid house scene like this. Happy Mondays for life.
Young Shaun looking like a ecstasy vampire in middle of the dance floor. Classic song and video.
I love this description. Can’t remember where it comes from but I came here because I knew someone would have said it. Kudos.
Got a photo of the Mondays Pre Bez Shaun must've been 21 yrs old tops before the heavy drugs practically unrecognisable! ✌️

I'm 50 and watching them in Notts Rock City tomorrow night.
When I first watched the me and Shaun Ryder both had long hair. Now both bald as fuck.
This is so underrated. Brilliant tune
The video itself is phenomenal too. Pure brilliance. The music and video go hand in hand.
Ahead of its time. It all has such a 90's vibe to it, yet it came out in '88.
Fantastic.
It's not underrated its one the best tunes ever and those that know are in the know.
@@chrisohagan8131 Exactly, you were either there at that time or not.
That girl bobbing around in the background. His haircut that makes him look presentable. The near-absence of Bez. The brilliance of the remix. The complete honesty of the video. Oh my God, I like the Happy Mondays.
Always fancied the lass behind Shaun dancing.

Alot of people don’t realise how influential this Manchester band was on fashion in the late 80s across the country and beyond, the loose fitting clothes, hooded tops etc, working class Manchester fashion spread to other towns and cities and also spread to other countries, cultures and genres of music also took on the image of working class Manchester. It’s strange how some trends start and people don’t realise where things came from. One I am trying to figure out is the chicken parmigiana in the north east, something that wasn’t there when I was a nipper, but is a cultural icon now, where did it REALLY begin?? Wtf lol
I remember this coming on the Chart Show back in the day and I was mesmerised. Like punk with a dance beat. I was in heaven.
I remember this coming on Saturday Morning Chart show! Didn’t really care about music before then. They changed everything the look, the lifestyle and the tunes. Went through and bought Bummed from Our Price that day.😎👌
Same here
Same
That’s why it’s so good! Raw music, like early punk. It’s quite primal and a bit rough around the edges and that’s what makes it so powerful. Nothing manufactured.
Yep. Me too. I was transfixed.
Man those were the days. Approaching 50 but thank God I and my mates lived through times such as these . Video captured the nights perfectly.
Exact same thoughts... captured the late 80s early 90s perfectly.
Abso-fucking-lutely! Every Saturday night was an adventure and songs like this were our soundtrack. We lived the dream.

Here after the news of Manchester's 5th Avenue closing. Found a bit of Mondays trivia in the MEN on 5th Ave closure article that it was formerly known as Legends. The Wrote For Luck video was filmed there in 1988. Wrote For Luck was often one of the first warm up tunes played by DJ Ade when it the doors had just opened for the night.
