Criston is technically sworn to Alicent but also technically sworn to the queen. It's been his job for over 10+ years so he probably didn't even think about it. His real fuck up is that he hasn't really taken to his duties as Lord Commander. He should've raised knights and guards immediately. It kind of makes him look incompetent how few guards there are. A lot of people I've noticed seemed to get the idea that it's Alicent's doing but it's really more a procedural mistake on the part of Criston more than him physically being there.

She was placed there to work by his selection so maybe she went directly to Larry who had soldiers wait for blood at the gate to capture him. So he can get credit for helping the king

Exactly -- complex characters. Their legacies aren't heroic, and they haven't always succeeded in avoiding questionable choices/decisions. As a result, apparently a very small portion of the audience didn't enjoy this show because nobody was good enough to meet their standards (I'm not joking 😂).
Criston Cole was meant to be guarding the children. Instead, he was deep in the children’s grandmother instead. Extra insulting when you consider Alicent’s hypocrisy and slutshaming towards Rhaenyra and Criston’s false claims of the sanctity of his oath. They’re all walking contradictions. I sympathize with Alicent a bit, though. But to not have guards outside the Queen’s bedroom to guard the king’s heir during a time of war is INSANE especially considering the death of Rhaenyra’s son which was UNANSWERED.
They just pointed out that she was Laena's dragon for basically her daughter's whole lives and now it's being used to threaten/kill them in a bloody war.

I'm so tired of how everyone treats Aegon in this series and outside of it. No one treats him with any sympathy. I really liked the Scene with Aemond in the Whorehouse with the same lady who eyeballed him in Season 1 when he and Criston visited looking for Aegon. Her playing with his hair as he reveals his feelings towards the Luke incident in season 1 is a good scene. Im also so happy to see Adamm and Alyn Hull. These two characters are among my favorite heroes of the Dance of the Dragons

And despite Daemon’s many problems, he can apply vicious force better than anyone. Not the most precisely, but the most aggressively for sure. He’s the most fearsome, the most unpredictable, a wild risk taker, brother of the King, he’s a warrior and his dragon is a war dragon. If she tells him he’s untrustworthy and disloyal, why should he bother to work hard at either long-term? He’ll just prove himself to himself and to the histories, then find someone who can appreciate him.
Daemon is a character I enjoy seeing on screen precisely for the reasons you laid out. P.S: I'm not convinced he effectively ordered the death of a child. He has kids of his own + is not incapable of empathy (in fact he demonstrated that in at least a couple Season 1 episodes. And before Team Green throws a shoe at my head, no I don't view him as a hero, I swear.

I really liked the camera work during Jaehaerys' funeral. There were some beautiful shots of Helaena and Alicent, especially Helaena. Emma D’Arcy acting this episode was brilliant. Their portrayal of Rhaenyra is excellent.

The fight between the twins was actually as tragic as written as in the book, the sorrows after each slash to eachother was incredible. If a nitpick could be made for that scene it would probably be that writers should have added the factor of the twins trying to convince eachother to stop and join their own side as their blades connected. If you ever get a chance, you should check out a song that was made for this battle called farewell my brother. I haven't check yet but I believed it is still on youtube.
Even though it’s a dark series with not a lot of people to root for, I like that there’s still some levity. Like Daemon’s shiftiness in the black council and Otto reacting to Aegon and Cole scenes were genuinely so funny.
While it was only a small line, I got super excited they mentioned Daeron Targaryen. I hope he makes an appearance this season. I think one can still feel some sympathy for Aegon while also still finding him repulsive and viewing him as an antagonistic figure.

Aegon is crying on one room after losing a son, Heleana is depressed cause she couldn't do anything on another room, and Aemond trying to remove his guilt in the whorehouse. Alicent could comfort one of her children but INSTEAD doing that, she decided to have segs with Cole.
I've noticed since the start of the ep she keeps talking about her sin while at the same time, everyone else is going through chaos. I think she wants to vent her problems, but because she's her kid's therapist, she has none of her own. Her father doesn't want to hear it, Cole is obviously biased, and her kids shouldn't really be hearing althous things. Also, this might just be me but I don't think she started to care less and less about her kids since it wasn't her choice but her father's order to marry and have them. Ironically she followed the same footsteps as Rhaenyra all those years back but it seems (at least to me) like she no longer hates Rhaenyra to the same level.
you guys have to realise that alicent is just as broken as her kids because she, too, didn't grow up with loving parents and was just forced into her position. her mom died young, her dad is otto. she was young when she had these kids. she became a mother before she was ready to be one. so of course she wouldn't know how to comfort aegon, the very son she disowned for being a rapist but had to crown king due to a misunderstanding. and it was said that criston sitting on her bed was him already abusing his power as the new Hand. she didn't refuse to comfort aegon just so she could have segs with criston.

Love how the show lays out the stark contrast between Black and Green. Rhaynera ahows restraint in starting the war, while Aegon is eager for it. She shows mercy by setting Mysaria free, while Aegon kills all the ratcatchers. She comforts her own son's grief, and he fails to comfort alicent. Alicent prefers to go have sex with cole rather than comfort her own son. Its no wonder Aemond goes to older women for comfort...shes so cold I'm still wondering why people support team green beyond their personal dislike of Rhaynera. Maybe thats the only reason lol

@@Drpavel564 By taking Harrenhal and basically the riverlands. Also Daemon taking out Vhagar gave Rhaenyra the best chance and she fumbled hard, it's like her enemy was a cripple and a dragon on the verge of death.

Aegon is crying on one room after losing a son, Heleana is depressed cause she couldn't do anything on another room, and Aemond trying to remove his guilt in the whorehouse. Alicent could comfort one of her children but INSTEAD doing that, she decided to have segs with Cole.
I've noticed since the start of the ep she keeps talking about her sin while at the same time, everyone else is going through chaos. I think she wants to vent her problems, but because she's her kid's therapist, she has none of her own. Her father doesn't want to hear it, Cole is obviously biased, and her kids shouldn't really be hearing althous things.
Also, this might just be me but I don't think she started to care less and less about her kids since it wasn't her choice but her father's order to marry and have them. Ironically she followed the same footsteps as Rhaenyra all those years back but it seems (at least to me) like she no longer hates Rhaenyra to the same level.
you guys have to realise that alicent is just as broken as her kids because she, too, didn't grow up with loving parents and was just forced into her position. her mom died young, her dad is otto. she was young when she had these kids. she became a mother before she was ready to be one. so of course she wouldn't know how to comfort aegon, the very son she disowned for being a rapist but had to crown king due to a misunderstanding.
and it was said that criston sitting on her bed was him already abusing his power as the new Hand. she didn't refuse to comfort aegon just so she could have segs with criston.
@@Bft149 it's my favourite among alicent's complexities. it started with her hate for rhaenyra because of the difference in their privileges and circumstances but now she keeps wanting to make up with rhaenyra and ends up hating herself every night.

3:26 not just that, Vhagar was also ridden by Daemon's dad, it then belonged to his wife Laena and now it is with Aemond, who is supposed to be an inverse version of Daemon.
I think the writers might regret how horrible they made Aegon in season 1. So now they're trying to humanize him a lot, but I'm not sure how successful they'll be.
Its looks like Helaena was already working on her kids funeral funeral shroud in the early part of ep2 and they totally hid that using “the rats” line

Love how the show lays out the stark contrast between Black and Green. Rhaynera ahows restraint in starting the war, while Aegon is eager for it. She shows mercy by setting Mysaria free, while Aegon kills all the ratcatchers. She comforts her own son's grief, and he fails to comfort alicent. Alicent prefers to go have sex with cole rather than comfort her own son. Its no wonder Aemond goes to older women for comfort...shes so cold
I'm still wondering why people support team green beyond their personal dislike of Rhaynera. Maybe thats the only reason lol

Agreed. He's a father to multiple kids + according to at least three Season 1 episodes, he is not incapable of empathy (but I believe he's like that only to family members).
The notion that Daemon is some monstrous psychopath devoid of compassion for others is ridiculous. And to the Daemon hater who twisted my words for giving him some credit into something along the lines of that I effectively regarded him as a hero, how do I put this: C'est Grande Shit du Bull. Moo.
