Thanks for the great info. In Northern California, I'm preparing to have a patio repainted with Epoxy paint. I don't see typical spalling but have a some divots which could be a form of spalling. Can I just carefully fill in the divots where they are without putting an entire coat down? And then lightly level? Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Thank you for your video brother. How deep of an indent in old concrete can you repair it resurface over with this product you recommended checking out.
Thank you for all these educational videos! Mike, we are about to start this project. My husband and I are wondering if we can use this same product to do a double layer. We would have to wait until the first layer completely dries and then apply the second and final layer. We are planning to do a "Venetian plaster" technique. Pls let us know if this would be doable. Thanks Mike!
You can go right over itself, yes. It does dry quickly so do small sections. Do the first layer completely, rubbing stone it smooth if you have to, then do the finish layer. I'd lightly mist some water on the base to dampen it, it'll help with installation. Just darken the concrete with the mist, no standing water.
Thanks for the video. Will try this in the spring. Had some concrete surface freeze trying to sneak in late season pours. Covered with blankets (mix had antihydro and low water content) but still lost surface finish. Dang 20 degree nights.
When I resurface stuff, I grind (with a vacuum usually) then use a leaf blower to blow off the dust, then I (water) hose off the remaining dust, then I use the blower to blow off any excess water before applying the product. It takes a similar amount of time and provides a better result than the method used here. I'm not trying to talk shit, Mike is definitely better overall at concrete than I am, but I'm just mentioning what I believe to be a better prep technique.
Does this require a bonding agent to be applied first ? I've got a porch I'd consider using this for. It has some of the natural stone exposed. Thanks, love your channel
I like the video but have a few questions about the brooming. I looked like he was brooming, just slightly, in more than one direction. If I'm correct, how does that look? Also, I noticed he would start brooming in the middle of the slab. Everytime I've done this it leaves ugly broom marks. Is that because my broom is dirty?
Laid two beautiful slabs and sometime during the night raccoons removed the plastic sheet I used to cover and protect it from the rain that was to come. Unfortunately I was sleeping and the broom finish got ruined from the rain. Time to get some rapid set.
Mike, I have used this product since watching this. Can you let us know what yours looks like now? Thank you for all the wonderful tips and instructions. I am thankful for all the experience you feel to share with us.
Great video. Valuable info on your channel. I'm going to try that product out. Didn't have much luck with the other brand when patching cracks they reappeared a year later. Good thing it was my driveway. I gave up on the resurfacing deal after that.
i have used this product to resurface concrete twice. if you color it, you have to be very careful about measuring product and color agent so you can mix multiple batches if you have a large area. besides that great and long lasting.
Hey Mike I used rapid set didn't turn out the best for me has lines any thoughts what I should do next. Think primer then cement paint? It looks dark and light. Any help of advise would be very helpful
Mike, I have a one year old concrete pool deck with a salt finish. I have decided I don't like the salt finish and just want to fill all the tiny holes in for a smooth look. What would be the best product for that? I live in Austin TX . Love your videos! thanks
In a previous video on a sidewalk resurfacing (and the 2-year later follow up), you used mortar mix instead of this product. Do you have a preference? I notice the mortar mix is not marketed for this use, but it looked like it held up. I also prefer the color, and it's a few bucks cheaper per bag. Thanks Mike!
Thanks Mike. Just finished curved backyard sidewalk. A friend did the finishing while I mixed the concrete. The morning after revealed many imperfections in the finish. How long should I let the concrete mature before using this product? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Mike, I'm curious have you ever put down the New Crete type product with a troweled finish vs broomed? If yes, how many finishers were required to hit it before it set up or did you just use a cement without the catalyst?
Mike, it's 70 out and I'm following all directions but I'm getting hairline cracks after 10 minutes, is it possible the product is bad? I'm applying it 1/6 to 1/8 on slightly wet grinded cement. 3' pool sidewalk broom finishing with a small handheld cement broom. Mixing 3 minutes with 2.5 L per 11k box? Can I slightly grind and resurface even if there are cracks?
Mike. Been watching a few of your videos and you do quality work. A tip for you when you are doing your resurfacing, get yourself a "Magic Trowel" you can get them in various sizes and they are made in the USA. You would do that small area in 5 mins. They attach onto a standard painter's pole or you can use them by hand. We have put down around 500m2 in 4hrs before. I know this has several obstacles in your way but the smallest size squeegee would work well or a combination of both. Gets your product down fast so you could brush it sooner. We apply a primer, then squeegee on the base compound then spray the second coat, then two coats of clear sealer. Enjoying the channel so far. Cheers 👍
Thanks for the informative video. Couple questions: 1) what type of grinder head did you use? 2)what fineness of brush head did you use? 3) how did you work the sides? 4) can one wet and occasionally stir the product while it’s in the bucket to prevent it from setting if it takes more than 30 min to apply? Thanks again
Concrete resurfacing products of various brands all seem to have a gray/light gray color which doesn't quite mimic the appearance of new off-white colored concrete. My understanding is that colorants can be added to resurfacers and I'd be inclined to add white colorant to achieve a more standard appearance. Thank you.
I’m resurfacing my parents garage and the surface is a mess. They have 2 paint spills, oil stains, cracks and spalling. I’ve spent about 2 weeks getting it clean and I patched most of the problem areas. I’ve done some concrete work before but this is my toughest one I’ve attempted. Unfortunately I left some raised trowel marks patching with allcrete Rapid Set. Do you have any idea how many days I need before I can grind them down. I know it’s fast but I didn’t know if grinding had a different effect vs just compression. I’m just looking for an opinion not something definitive because every situation is different. Your videos are great! Thanks for posting.
Hello Mike, great video. Is there a DIY mix with portland cement that get be done to replicate this resurfacing? I'm fron Nigeria and follow your channel. But we don't have the variety of concrete products that are available in say, North America.
Hey Mike what are your thoughts on using a penatrating sealer on a resurfacing product like this one newcrete or the ardex CD you used before. Is it recommended or since it's a polymer is it needed.
It would be better to use it before the resurfacer. I like RadonSeal sealer. I just did a video on it. If you want to seal after, use the AR 350 from Foundation Armor. Here it is: amzn.to/2ANeQD2
Hi mike love your channel and your overall knowledge of your craft. My question is respectfully, why don’t you just rip out the concrete around the slide and just lay new concrete. Mike, question. I’m about to overlay my patio, roughly 600sq of exposed aggregate. I’m thinking about using “BUTTERFIELD” overlay (I’ve used in the past), what should I use as a filler to cover the aggregate? My first thought was ARDEX, but the price is crazy, anything cheaper as an equivalent???
I have a small porch maybe half the size of that area.... I'm going to try a grinder w light pressure to see how it comes out, then it'd be nice if I could make it look new with this stuff... I'd prefer extra time to apply it and then not walk on it for a day or hours if it made it easier.

@@MikeDayConcrete Hi Mike. Great video. I plan on using this product to resurface my front porch. Do you recommend substituting half of the water required for mixing this product with a concrete bonding agent/acrylic fortifier to ensure good adherence to old concrete?
The Ardex is more expensive and a little harder to get and new Crete is more available. And I've used both and others and to me none of them can hold a candle to the Ardex CD. The stuff is amazing as long as you know what your doing. But that's just for me and I'm an experienced tile setter and concrete finisher for 24 years now.
