If you waited this game for 13 years, you know this wasn't just another musical segment, this was Sam Lake, Matthew Porretta/Ilkka Villi, Poets of the Fall & the rest of the Remedy team celebrating with us we finally got to experience this masterpiece together after so many years of waiting.
It's like they took a similar fun bit from 2019s Control that made you take a moment to fully absorb its majesty, took in those lessons then said "ok that but no breaks this time. We roll this live" Just...Bravo team.
I thought this year robbed me the last of my good emotions then this game slapped smiles on my stupid face. It's silly but I needed this lol.
@@meganballantyne156 happy for you! Yeah Remedy is absolutely goated!
masterpiece no good (enough) game yes
@@iSTEFIXi Use commas, my dude.
You should mention David Harewood as well. He did a great job.
Alan wake 2 is what happens when a studio is allowed to realize their creative vision without interference from the greedy and shallow executives.
Epic executives are greedy and shallow as they come, but maybe not as fiscally smart as your avg bear. Id bet they committed the funds to make Alan Wake 2 during the buying, acquiring and hiring boom before they realized the money was going to run out and started panicking.
I just hope that AW2 will be an example of how to not fuck up when developing a triple A game
perhaps more accurately, it's the culmination of what happens when a studio has a relatively unified creative vision, and manages to survive long enough to make a bunch of games, gaining experience with the engine, with the design, everything. Look at baldurs gate 3 - also a sequel to a very old game, also in the works for an incredibly long time, also made by a studio who made other games in the meantime to refine their craft and convince executives they had what it takes.
It's not magic, but its also not just "don't fuck up."
maybe they should be disallowed from now on. this sucks so bad
@@macabo yeah making stuff up is cool too. why go by facts when you can just say stuff. What are you even trying to say? Epic running out of money? Them being extremely greedy? Epic is a massive company that makes millions. Infact the Epic store is better to sell games on than steam because they only take 12% of what you sell compared to steams 30%.
This segment blew me away. Had my jaw dropped the whole time.
Ya somos 2
Wanted to hug everyone at Remedy after, what gaming magic that was
Same
Anch'io 😮😅
It fits the lore amazingly, yet stands out in the genre so much!
Ive always Remedy Games but this sequence blew me away even more of how much the developers, actors put this much effort into the game. Well done!!
I’ve also always remedy games
I accidentally the whole bottle
This entire section was one of the weirdest, most creative things I’ve seen in a game.
Even the creative director, Sam Lake, is dancing his butt off. Name another game developer who's done something like this?
I love how Remedy has had this tradition of putting a bonkers musical scene in each game in this series, and they're usually the best mission in the game in terms of spectacle and the combat. But with AW2 they put in two of them, Herald of Darkness being the peak of the spectacle and Dark Ocean Summoning being the peak of the gameplay. What an amazing game!
While "playing" Herald of Darkness i thought "wtf!" all the time and was blown away and on Dark Ocean Summoning I was "Yeah, like good old times blasting away taken while Old Gods of Asgard are playing". This game deserves to be Game of the Year!
@@thefirstloser 100% agree
@@thefirstloser I agree! I just completed the game last night, and DAMN what a finish! The parts with Gods of Asgard were instant favs.
but i didnt see any musical in the original alan wake.
@@abcdefgh6121 I thnk he's referring to scenes that are music focused. If you recall, Alan Wake 1 had the "Children Of The Elder God" concert level where you're fighting on stage as the gods of asgard are singing in the background.
The music video we didn’t know we needed
12:20 The final seconds of this thing are just incredible. Alan's little smile while taking a sip from his coffee is what makes all of this complete. Well done, Remedy. Well done.
Yeah, loved his little moments of glee in spite of everything, like here or when he saw that REDACTED was just as he imagined.
The smile made it for me. it's like despite all the terror and chaos he's going through in that moment he's like "huh that was actually pretty fun"
@@ZX121 come on men we all know the reason he was 13 years in the dark place was just so that he could practice his singing and dancing for the musical
@@travellerinthedarkwhat do you mean with the redacted reference? Was it some text of FBC?
@@hoteru1 Oh, I was just avoiding spoiling anything about the game, I was referencing the scene where Alan meets (SPOILERS) the actor playing Alex Casey, Sam Lake, and is delighted that he looks just like how he imagined him, in spite of how unsettling the whole situation is for him. I said 'redacted' instead of giving a spoiler warning to make an FBC joke, yeah :)
I swear if they don’t bring this performance to TGA i’m gonna protest!! It’s soooo good 😭😭😭
Oh my God that would be beautiful to see. You got me hoping now
with Alan Wake as the host, acting like he's in the Dark Place and then dancing with the band. People would lose their minds
@@joaquinsandoval5370 yeah and they can bring Casey, Door, Alan and everyone and do this whole number.
@@KaliGam i want to see saga too
It might play in the Medley!
I was NOT ready for this mission. I was laughing throughout the entire mission. And the song was pretty catchy. This game was amazing to play
I love that even though Alan has been trapped for over a decade, fighting and writing for his life, the dark place decides he can still have a fun time with a musical number. 😆
I think this is Door's thingy and not the dark Place itself. Also Tor and Odin are there too bc they went after Saga.
Honestly Alan's tiny lil smile at the end while he reflects at the WTF that just happened reminded me there's joy to be had in dark times. I needed that.
@@FoxyGuyHereDon't forget Ahti sung along.
@@FoxyGuyHere Tbh it's pretty obvious from that scene that Tor and Odin have been fighting to get him out of the Dark Place the whole time. Makes sense why Tor was taken.
@@LampDoesVideogameThis is actually when youre playing as saga fighting to bring wake back from the dark place but he actually returns in chapter 2
Poets of the Fall deserves a fucking Nobel Prize for their music
Absolutely I’ve been a fan of the band since the first Alan Wake and they were masterful on this. I saw it last night didn’t know it was coming and was like hell yeah
I hope they get involved with the remaster of max payne
@@Alpha_Hunter9me too! They had a song in MP2 so maybe there will be more in the remakes!

So badass.
It felt like a 30 min music video on my playthrough 😂
same hahaha i even let me get killed just to play it over and over haha to damn good for me this game is an strong goty even equal to resident evil 4 remake
Can't wait to hear this at the GOTY Orchester
Just finished it
@@ahmadrajput6953 Almost there. It’s a Masterpiece!!
@@mathieutheriault5050 its not a masterpiece its something beyond that mate
I really liked how serious and confused Alan looked the entire time, especially during the choreographed dances. Not once does he change out of that expression until the very end where he gives a small smirk, as if, as bizarre as this was for him, he did enjoy it a bit.
It took me nearly an hour to complete that sequence... I kept going back and forth, I didn't want it to end! Man, what a masterpiece. Just the PERFECT blend of interactive media with a B-movie vibe. I wish Remedy could know how much we appreciate this
Mr. Door looks like he's having a blast in the musical - love the energy!
He exaggerated every motion and facial expression, almost like he was just a fan imitating his favorite dancer, Casey is as on point as possible like he had been practicing for months, and Alan is confused as to how he knows these moves.
@@darnit16door’s expressions are goddamn lovely here
@@darnit16 I'd like to imagine that Alan DOESN'T know the moves, he's just improvising whatever. But because he's the writer, the Dark Presence retroactively changes reality to make the moves he improvises be the moves the rest of the gang's practiced beforehand, making them all move in sync. It would explain the somewhat simplistic physical movement, too. Alan's a writer, not a dancer.
Having played all of Remedy's games previously, I expected something like this.
I did not expect this. This was easily my favorite part of the game, and it wasn't close.
控制裡也有,歌還不錯。
I expected a fun little thing like in Control. But this was something else. I don't regularly see this level of time, love, budget and hard work dedicated to high quality stupid outside the team behind Last Week Tonight these days.
Successfully pulling off high quality stupid requires A LOT of talent. It's so hard to get a good budget for it too. It's risky. So it's rare that you see it rendered out so beautifully. 'Stupid' is not easy to pull off. But when the stars align it's a joyous occasion.
@@meganballantyne156 lol, I love that description! And its true man, they really nailed the "stupid fun" here. Little pieces like this are something special when done right.
@@jesquesan I loved Yötön Yö!
@@jesquesan Same! lol. I was expecting something more along what happens near the end of the game, but this was just . . .WOW.
This is by far the craziest sequence from any game I've ever played! 10/10
More than take control?
@@sol19824Yes
take control is definitely cool but this one got the crazy factor @@sol19824
Remedy and Poets of the Fall keep getting better and better
@@sol19824control's ashtray maze was very fun to play also but this just blows it out of the water visually and technically
Does anyone else notice Alans face at the end? Like he knows hes in the musical but can't control himself in the final dance? I love it!
Door has a similar detail when the second part starts. After his first verse when alan gets his award he looks up, confused, like a puppet who gained sentience seeing who's pulling the strings for the first time. only to have that self-awareness stripped away immediately with another pull of the string.
Damn! Poets of the Fall still work with Remedy. What a beautiful job, as always! I love their complicity.
Dude i was so sad when i thought it ended but laughed so hard when they faked me out with an echo just for the musical to continue
When I first did this, I got to the end and went "it's a lot of fun but it ended kind of meh". Then it turned into the gigantic 2 minute live action dance sequence and I think I applauded out of joy.
@@trentstrickland3534me too!
Remedy's Northlight engine pushed to the limits thanks to Sam Lake and his creative team. Kudos to Matthew Perrota and James McCafferty for their amazing performances, and Poets of the Fall for their amazing soundtrack. Definitely the GOTY for me.
amazing game for sure but definitely not GOTY material.
They better play this at the event no matter what
It actually is. It pushes boundaries of story telling and visual spectacle. It experiments in many ways and succeeds in most. While not a perfect game, the leaps and bounds this game has made in the aforementioned storytelling and technical departments; as well as it's artistic direction, this game is beyond goty material. While it's moment to moment gameplay can be a bit lacking, it's a survival horror game with a slow burn. Not everyone's cup of tea, but for those whose pallet it tickles it's one of the greatest horror games ever made.
Also David Harewood as Mr. Door. Even though he seems to lipsync gibberish, he did provide his own singing.
let me guess, for you GOTY equals bloated open world game?@@corruptVz
Imagine how incredible this would be if they made a VR version
For all that Alan has been through at least he looked like he was having fun at the end there.
I had the dumbest smile on my face for this entire chapter. Such a chaotic, delightful little treat!
Alan saying “That was really good!” at the end of the chapter was too cute.
He said "That was awesome" at the Anderson's farm in AW1. Jesse said the same in Control after the Maze.
Alan's smile at the end feels like a victory lap for the devs and the character himself. Such an iconic moment
I've been playing games for over 30 years, and I haven't seen anything like this before. Remedy has truly achieved something remarkable with Alan Wake 2. It will be really difficult for someone to surpass this.
you surely havent played death stranding yet, probably the best triple a to pull out of pocket shit like this
I can’t describe how unique and amazing this game is, you can’t compare this game to anything else.
But people will, like they always do. Like the idiots that try to compare Skyrim or other TES games to The Witcher series....or compare COD to the Fallout series. This game will be lumped in with every AAA 3rd person action adventure series, like Uncharted , TLOU, The Evil Within, etc.
This scene alone should show that remedy deserves to get game of the year award. Haven’t seen something this unique before in a games mission
My jaw hurts from smiling the entire time, the beginning I was confused and then once I realized what they were doin I was smiling and laughing just having fun. If your an Alan wake fan this was a thank you from remedy and poets of the fall for the fans being so loyal for 13 years
I went through this whole sequence with a sense of joy and a great big grin. Massive fun and a brilliant song.
This is easily one of my most epic gaming moments, what a sequence, its batshit insane 😂
I think it needs to be said that the timing and extension of music to fit the cues for moments and sync with the gameplay is amazing
1:36 EASILY my favorite part
Absolutely!
I need to add this to my Spotify playlist asap
November 15!
GOTY. This is absolutely mind-blowing and original
I can't deny that Remedy games never fails to deliver a masterpiece!! Everyone who worked on this game put so much love and passion into this game.
this moment cemented the game as an instant classic
Reading all this fan comments put a tear in my eye. You sometimes forget we are all still around......Came straight over a few minutes after finishing the game and now i am sadder and happier. This felt like what gaming used to be!! Cheers, everyone!
Just completed this masterpiece cant wait for next remedy game
2 dlc are coming next year
Next game for Remedy outside the AW2 DLCs is Max Payne 1 and 2 remake 👀
such a masterpiece, the fighting part was so hard for me that the song just stuck in my head after several replays and I need to rewatch it infinitely now :D
I can't get over his lil smile at the end. For a moment Alan was so into the moment that he let himself play the musical. Then he realizes it and gets out of it but just for a monent, the thinks, of all the things the Dark Place has thrown at me this wasn't so bad.
This game and whole chapter of the game is a masterpiece. Unforgettable
It Was soooooo EPIC, i'm player since like 1990, and this is the best thing ive ever seen in video game ever. I thought that the scen from Alan Wake 1 when Old Gods of Asgard were playing on a big scene was awesome, but Remedy got me... Guys i bow before you, utterly incredible. And the music, gosh , "speachless i'm" as would Yoda say :). Please publish Old Gods Of Asgard music on CD, Vinyl, or anything.
December 5th wink wink
This chapter is both a masterpiece and absolutely amazing!
Has anyone ever seen anything this cool in a video game? Genuinely asking. Never seen anything like that.
I have not stopped randomly grinning since I came across this part. This game might be writing me out of my own dark place. If it does would be meta AF.
I died laughing when I saw live action Alan Wake start dancing. I love it.😂
The only thing I dislike about this is that I have only two save slots available now because one is forever dedicated to replaying this section over and over again.
One of greatest episodes of my 25 years gaming experience ever! Thank you, Remedy!
THIS IS GENUINELY ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS IVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN A GAME.
Finished the game last night, I'm so incredibly happy I got to play this masterpiece. Walking through this entire sequence my jaw was to the floor and was laughing all the way through, hopefully I live long enough to see Alan Wake 3.
That little smile he gives at the end is just reassuring himself that he still hasn't gone completely insane.
I like to imagine Door was like "now how do I screw with Wake the absolute most" when coming up with this.
I think it was more of a gift? Maybe or a way to help him out in giving him a pick me up so that he can continue on through to the next level of the spiral
Maybe, but the way Door spoke to Wake at the end really seems to show how much Door dislikes him for bringing Saga into the mix. You might be right about it being a backhanded way to help him though, if only for Saga's sake.
Hopefully we'll find out more in the DLC.@@bubbletroubles5234

Alan Wake 2, what-a-sequel!
I love Alan dancing in the background! 😂😂
When I got to this part, I was laughing so hard because I didn’t expect this to be in the game😂
If there is such thing as best scene from a video game, this deserves it.
This reminds me the combat part of Alan Wake 1 in the Anderson's farm with Barry playing with the lights of the scenario, and the song on it
And the 'Take Control' segment in Control. ;) Watch that one as well!
I remember thinking "this is why I play games" during that segment.
One of the best moments in gaming history.
when you think theres no way theres a better scene than take control
I haven't played that yet. But I'll catch up
That guitar 😩😩 those vocals!!
Was not expecting this scene at all. Loved every second of it! Reminds me of how much I enjoyed the bar scene and build a little house scene from RDR2.
This game reminds me of older days where developers actually gave their heart making their game. Max Paynes, Prince of persias, Command&Conquers all great examples of different areas and they all have a place in our memory still. Maybe it wouldnt be fair to to blame the current ones because new geneneration isnt like us but still. This year was amazing in terms of our perspective of amazing games like AW2.
spot on. genuinely exciting to see this level of ambition and creativity. No one is doing it like remedy
Holy shit, what a fucking segment. Greatest segment of any video game that I can recall in a long, long time. While a few weapons are introduced to Alan along the way, the last, best one is, to me, was the Flare Gun.

Have to give Epic at least some credit for working out a deal that allowed Remedy to bring their vision to reality.
And I will buy it again when it comes to Steam. Remedy must be rewarded for the love they put into this and all their stories.
I'm sure you didn't feel the same, when MS did the EXACT SAME THING with Alan Wake. 🙄

Same, bro. This scene is frickin' awesome! I just couln't stop watching and listening to it.
You can just feel how much fun they had making this game and im 100% here for it.
This Scene was so out of nowhere but I loved every second of it.
I can count the moments a video game made my jaw drop, for instance the first time you saw the world serpent in God Of War, the ending of Metal Gear Solid 3 or the ending of Read Dead 2. And this.. This... WOW! I STILL FEEL THE GOOSEBUMPS, 13 years expecting this masterpiece and is just mindblowing every chapter. Congratulations Remedy and Sam Lake to me this deserve the game of the year.
Damn it's getting right in your face, it's a screamer of enchantment. Particularly unexpected in our time to see a game assuming to follow through on a very unique approach.
This game shows that game development is an art form. Its not my favorite game for sure. Gameplay is not for me really. I play it for the story. But those guys clearly understand that game development is a form of art. And they fucking nailed it
God, I love Poets of the Fall/Old Gods of Asgard.
You know, the dark place seems more fun than Alan gives it credit for.
A flipping masterpiece of a game. This part of the game had me both tripping and rocking out! Remedy well done, GOTY
This was the best experience iv had in a video game. Take a horror game and slap a musical in it. Worked brilliantly!! Bravo! Even though game of the year didn’t happen they took home a lot and I’m proud to have been playing Alan wake since the first back in 2010
Remedy keeps one-upping itself with these banger musical scenes in each game.
Absolutamente espetacular! The best moment of games ...❤
I can't stop listening Alan Wake 2's musics.
This level was epic, i had a smile on my face through the whole thing, Remedy is really unique.
They always nail with those song moments! Thank You Remedy
This game is mental. What a ride!!
As this game is about light and darkness, this whole writing captures fully the embodiment of light in the chaos of darkness. Awesome without a doubt!!
Show me the champion of light, Ill show you the herald of darkness, lost in the never ending night, loved this chorus, loved it.
I did not expect this in a horror game, but every other game is now worse than Alan Wake 2 for not having it!
I can't even begin to comprehend how much Directing, planning and co-ordination and production would have gone into this one scene.
When I saw this in game the first words out of my mouth were "oh. Here's where the entire budget went"
Amazing game with any surprises. Well done Remedy!
