Quite amusing how many people have forgotten these existed. They were quite good sellers for Ford and Dagenham needed them to compete with cars like the Hillman Husky and Standard Companion which were feeding an emerging market segment for small utility cars. Note also the estate-car treatment of the rear, rather than just using van doors - they were smart little cars really, especially the Squire version which featured wood side trim on early models.

The Estate version of the 100E Ford Anglia was the first UK Ford to be give the name ‘Escort’ for the base version, the better known name used for the deluxe version was the ‘Squire’

Very weird proportions, a 2-door but using the short doors of the 4-door sedan, shorter rear overhang and overall length than the sedans. Supposedly optimized as a van with the wagon a derivative, but I don't see the benefits of having done those things. Dearborn really should've put Dagenham on a shorter leash developing this one.

The Anglia is the two-door sedan and the Prefect the four-door. The Escort is the estate version of the same car, the Thames the van version. I believe this was the same in all markets.
