- Here's the theme music video of the first years of Doctor Who, composed by Ron Grainer !
Walliam Hartnell as the Doctor !
Bonus from the DVD "an unearthly child"
No copyright infringment intended, only the wish to spread the show !
imagine being a 7 year old child in 1963 and you were just finished your dinner on saturday evening and this started, even in 2021 it takes you to an interstellar corridor
Interstellar that sounds like a poor manner of inside and and some other word for star no this is a place outside of time outside of space wandering along the edge of the fourth dimension
Cu
It's sad that there are still missing episodes of the first and second doctor. :(
Only for two and a half months more, sir... ;-)
SecretTimeWarp why 2 and a half months?
Well... there was SUPPOSED to be an announcement around Easter, but it's been delayed indefinitely. A lot of fans are starting to believe that we'll *never* see Philip Morris's finds at this point.
The BBC has shown "Power Of The Daleks" to its staff, and Steve Roberts strongly believes that "Marco Polo" has been returned in full. An announcement is coming.
Whole season 4 is still MIA I would of loved to see the first regeneration!
I reckon that in years to come the modern cgi intros will look dated but this will always remain an awesome spectacle
I seriously believe this theme should be played over the end credits of the final episode of Doctor Who. I know, a lot of people want the show to go on forever, but realistically it has to end sometime, so when it does, this would be the perfect way to make the entire sometimes come full circle.
It's probably one of those things that will never end. As in, if it does end, I feel like it'll eventually be rebooted once again.
@@roguescorner9042 technically it was never rebooted. that was not another 1st doctor
@@alexanderleonardi3625 As far as I'm aware, reboot essentially means relaunching something, so reboots of movies and shows may or may not be related to the original.
I was 2 when it started. I used to shake with terror when the music started. Mother would try to console me. But I wasn’t needing consoled. I’d squirm and scream if they tried move me or switch it off because it scared me.
Rules for Dr who.
The doctor can be anyone.
Their assistant/s can be anyone.
Bad guys can be anything.
The intro will be the only thing to remain the same!
Last rule is debatable.
@@arfansthename true. But it does have the same kinda tune going on. Just different styles and tempos
@@cottencandykitten Yeah. Everything about the theme can change, but the melody always remains the same.
@@roguescorner9042 as to say it's soul is what keeps it going not it's apparence and superficial changes. As long as it's soul remain, Doctor Who will be THE DOCTOR.
It still has the 4 knocks...MASSSSTTTETRTETRERRR
I FINALLY FOUND THIS COMMENT AGAIN
“The heartbeat of a Time Lord.”
Or just the heart beat of a time lord
Sounds as ethereal and ahead of its time today as it did in November 1963
God Almighty do I miss this Show. The original 26 year run is the Definitive Doctor Who for me!
I don't know about that. The remake seems to be hitting a chord in terms of quality. The old one has some pretty laughably bad episodes despite having several great ones.
+absolutiontheory98 Did you even watch the original series?
+rangers199487
Not all of it.Some.Certainly haven't watch Tom Bakers one. Will get to it eventually one day.Im not saying that the old ones aren't great, they have some of the best doctor who episodes but you also have some awful episodes. The space pirates, the sensorites and many many more. Its not that the remake have no bad episodes but the ratio is still better compare to the old one.Its kinda like how some people say star trek tos is the best star trek but is blinded by nostalgia.Star trek tos have some pretty outstanding episodes but for every one great episode,I have to swim through bunch of plain stupid ones.
+absolutiontheory98 Actually, it's not a remake, It's a revival
*****
Flirt episodes? What do you mean by that?If you mean by characters,I do agree some moments make me cringe when he went overboard with sexual tension. But it never ruined the episode for me.
did anyone notice *DOCTOR OHO* before *DOCTOR WHO*?
who didnt right?
Yes
Actually if you look closely what you're seeing is WHO and OHW superimposed on each other.
Bryan McDonald oh i see it :)
me did
I like the color :)
CZsfPurplik ᶌ what color? There is no color
ikr it's all in black in white so why say that
*Fwoosh*
Wooooooosh
Yeah black and white are cool colours huh
Still has to be up there as one of the best tv openings and theme music. Interesting to think that they'd have probably used a lot of vivid colours in these opening visuals if they could, but it was before colour tv in the UK.
@GuyOfTheUniverse the Pertwee opening was super vibrant as if they were showing off the colour capabilities.
Wow, never knew Doctor Who was that old...
Makes me respect the show even more!
u leearn summin new every day dontcha?. common knowledge in britain
1963 November the 23rd
@@cyberemperor1435 5:15 PM? Or am I getting that wrong, because that's what my friend told me
I also thought it was from the 70's.
Probably the best intro and still very creepy
Lower octave, sounds far better than the tinny mechanized recent versions.
Same octave, different timbre. But agreed.
@@Frungi different TONE u guys mean lol..it was done on a moog too.
@@Tommyblueeyes Isn’t _timbre_ the more accurate term here?
@@Frungi no the later version upshifts a full semitone....nothing to do with timbre
@@Frungi talking about a KEY change ffsake
The one thing I really like about this intro, is the feeling the minimalistic music and visuals create.
This is exactly what I imagine the edge of the universe would feel like. Chaos and incomplete matter just existing.
And this intro captures this eerie and unreachable feeling like no other intro!
All of the Dw opening themes are great
This theme has always given me creeps...since I have heard it for the first time...I was a child I wasn't used to listen to the soundtracks...but after years I think music from Doctor Who is very interesting, especially from 80's (Paradise Towers, Time And The Rani etc.)
Better in black and white. Best intro of the group. The music is spot on…not so tinny, but dark and foreboding. Love it!
Thanks so much! Love this song, and glad to have found such a clean, clear-cut version of the original theme. Yes indeed!
Probably the best one.
I am now well into doing visuals with feedback and synthesis and this stands as an excellent example of the art. And the Delia Derbyshire score!
Excellent theam tune ,I'v always loved it and never tired of it.
Brazil loves the doctors!!!! ^^
Brazil
a timeless classic.
Child**
@@nachochips1458 haha i see what you did there
When I have a child I will play this every night as a lullaby.
Today was the *58* year anniversary of when Doctor Who aired its very first episode! 🤓
Story
Wow. I cant believe you even uttered those preposterous words out your mouth my dear sir. I wonder how many people foolishly said the same thing about Hamlet and its longevity on the stage, or Romeo And Juliet. Heck lets take into account on how long theatre has been around. The point is that Doctor Who will never end or die as long as there are people who imagine what it would be like to travel among the fabrics of space and time. It will forever go on just as many tales have through history.
One day I shall come back yes I shall come back... until then there shall be no regrets no tears no anxieties. Just go forwards with all your beliefs. And prove to me that I'm not mistaken in mind
i like how this was the intro or one of them for day of the doctor
My favorite of all the DW intros.
It's like an inkblot test half the time...
Happy 58 years Doctor!
Where is the version that had the First Doctor's face which was pulled for being too scary?
I don't think that was ever actually made. They tested it with crew members faces and decided it was a no go.
I dont know about that but 3 had a creepy face
@@nachochips1458 Yea why did they decide that painted eyes we're better?
I found it in a compilation of dr who intros. It's the last one. I have no idea who's in it, it doesn't look like Hartnell!
ruclips.net/video/HAjd-p-6sXI/видео.html If youtube will let me post links, its right at the end. I can entirely imagine them deciding not to use this effect because it was "scary". Even now, in the 21st century, it still gives the impression of a demonic face "staring out" of the tv
Dr Who William hartnell . maestro!
Arturo Santaclara Curras il primo è sempre il migliore
Did anybody know that they made series 11 of my show and it looks like this same animation, but in color? And, it's got a newer version of this music. 😀
This is my ringtone I love it
Nice to see another full version of the credits with Carole Ann Ford and William Hartnell RIP William
Here is the first part of a legend...
There have been 29 Doctor Who stories from William Hartnell's era. Only 17 of them were shown on PBS Stations in America.
this was actually assumed to be a Time Lord law, not a Biological law, The Master has regenerated far more then 12/13 times.
The Master stole energy allowing him to do so however
Would BBC America shown the early Doctor Who stories again?
No! Why? Because they don't have it!
William Hartnell the real first doctor fuck what Chibbnal says
PLEASE REPLY How did they do the visual effects with the patterns in the background? They all look like white liquid blended in with black liquid....
+Casual Falcon 101 Something about screens with delay.
It's called howl-around, the effect of pointing a tv camera at a monitor showing its own output. Some of the images are generated by the title card, some by other objects (harshly lit) moved in front of the camera. Some are hands - you can see elongated, distorted fingers once you know what they are. No liquids used as far as I know.
(Some other films makers did use highly magnified liquid chemical reactions for similarly strange effects such as in the "exploding universes" sequence towards the end of 2001)
Me: hits my knee
My entire nerve system:
Actually, the doctor WOULD be on his last regeneration with the 12th, since there is an "unknown" incarnation between 8 and 9 (John Hurt). HOWEVER, remember that River effectively used 10 of her own regenerations to revive him. Which could have easily transferred more regenerations to him.
Trippy cool theme tune william hartnell was the best doctor looked quite sinister
this intro if amazing
I'm almost 40 and can't watch this clip with the sound on because the theme music from back then still scares me! I don't remember Doctor Who starting, but the music wasn't that different in Tom Baker's day. My brother remembers Doctor Who's start in 1963 and he said that at the time no one had really heard much that sounded like it. That dum-da-dum-dum-da-dum chord sequence still gives me chills! Those black and white titles are eerie. I wonder what they would have looked like in colour.
This actually the intro this is actually the first ever image of the time vortex
That punch, metal.
This is years before Moog. Holy sh%^$!
This is my fave intro. ;D
i love all tha doctor who openings
So good
Roy Laughton is the Motion Graphics Design pioneer behind this.
What I like about this intro is how it doesn't show a wormhole from point A to point B, but instead shows a big blob of Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey.. Stuff.
Best theme ever created
It was composed by Delia Derbyshire
You think they knew the beat was a timelord's heartbeat when they created this?
I think in Hartnell's era of DW they didn't add the two hearts yet (I don't know, I'm 17.)
@cristoffL
Closing was just the names as the scene faded to black.
I never said I wanted it to end. It's a fantastic show and deserves to go on for as long as possible. It'd be great if we're still watching new episodes a hundred years from now, but I also don't want to be too disappointed if they one day decided it's time to retire it, you know what I mean? Just preparing for all possible outcomes. Still, you're right, the show's end isn't a certainty, so here's hoping it keeps going.
I hope when the final episode goes to the credits scene (if it's in my lifetime) that I see and hear this as the final credits
you should also tag this as the closeing as it has the "middle 8" thanks i was looking all ocver for this. its going on my store halloween mix cd. tell no one.
Happy birthday, Who!
Composed by Grainer, Performed by Delia Derbyshire.
Well, not really - the Doctor/Susan faces are from the TARDIS takeoff in the first episode. This is from the "Unearthly Child" DVD, where they combined the titles, the TARDIS takeoff and outtake 'howl around' footage to make a 'full length' title sequence.
I want to get round to watching some of the older Doctor Who episodes. I was born in 2001 so I'm only really familiar with the post-2005 episodes. My dad was born in the 60s so I asked him what he thought about Doctor Who and he said he absolutely hated the older ones but didn't mind the 2005 reintroduction. That's all I've really heard about it so I don't have great impressions of it so far. 😂
Sucks to hear that mate. Born in 2000 myself and my Dad used to get me Old Who VHS tapes from the library when I was little, so I've got major nostalgia for it that's helped me come back and appreciate the brilliant writing a lot of the episodes have.
i really want to start the Classic Doctor Who series!!
What exactly are those waves ? Are they some hypnotic waves or the sea or is it how they imagined time traveling would be like back then ?
Very psychedelic, the music and the visuals screams 1960s and I love it. Also very eery and creepy.
Will BBC America show the very 1st Doctor Who story or not?
What has Carole Anne ford been doing lately? The last time she portrayed Susan, the Doctor's 1st companion in the TARDIS,was in the 2-part story Dimensions In Time, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of Doctor Who.
azure rainbow She's a dialect and voice coach. And she is a voice actor working on, among other things, Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas.
Not necessarily 12 times exactly. It's risky to go over 12 regenerations, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not possible.
Then again, this was stated a while back when 12 like a perfectly large number. Considering the DW cannon isn't always entirely consistent, this could be omitted or overlooked.
Peter Capaldi said he remembers seeing the first episode when he was 5 years old,god I wish I was alive then to see this come on.
Just imagine…A rainy evening in Sheffield or wherever,5.15pm on November 23 1963,and suddenly those first few chords play, and the people watching would never know that what they were hearing would a long time later be the longest running TV show in the world
Doctor who my fav classic doctor used to be the 1st
Still one of the best even today. A lot of the later ones acted like clowns.
It's like something from Hawkwind
I Wonder How They Achieved Those Visual Effects
They used a video camera, they connected it to a monitor ''live''. So, the monitor was displaying what the camera was recording. They pointed the camera toward the monitor, creating a kind of ''video larsen''. You can do the same with an old camcorder connected to an old crt TV. You just have to aim the TV. It Can damage old camcorders. Sorry for my english.
Why Did You Capitalise Every Word In That Sentence
Doctor Who!!
They need another radiophonic workshop style theme...
Yeah, it's been around.
can't believe they kept the same tone
I'm tripping balls watching this. This is brilliance.
the vortex also changes with the doctor
hocam ne zaman düzelir durumlar tahmini?? makineyi kullanmaya müsade var mıdır bir gidip bakıp geleyim
i miss this bass base :/
Never took in the consideration that River put lives unto the Doctor.
so thats where the tardis' sound come from, Fantastic!!!
Does anybody know the technique they used for the black and white waveness
they explained it in an adventure in time and space, but I don't really remember it
They shine a light down the camera
They start by aiming a camera at a video monitor. The resulting feedback generates a video "howl", which can be altered by, among other simple techniques, shining a flashlight into the camera lens, or by putting up one or more dark spots in an A/B video mix. Which is also how they make the titles "form" out of the feedback pattern. It's very basic stuff and extremely creative. Nothing like it was seen on television before Doctor Who came along.
They should use this for the 50th annerversy special
Play it at 0.75x
Trust me
im in the doctor part of the youtube again.
Hamlet differs from Doctor Who in one way, it ended in one take. No new episodes. It may still be performed but, its still ended. Well, unless you wan to see Hamlet 2.
You know what? I feel pretty good considering one thing: I would be a better actor to portray Doctor Who right now than Ncuti Gatwa. And so would you be. I happen to be a pretty decent actor in private home projects, with lots of experience. But even if you don't have experience, you'd still be better than Ncuti. So feel happy about that!
The first, the original, the one & the ONLY Doctor.
bootsamou only?
The original, you might say.
I'm somewhat predicting that this will be the first thing that will appear in the 50th anniversary episode.
You predicted it
Years ago a user named "unstrungzero" uploaded the same video...
It's on dvd. It's not stealing.
okay, im pretty sure the theme song was not this long and shows the TARDIS at the end,
This is techinically the 2nd opening
Maybe the 50th anniversary should have 'Doctor Oho' instead of Doctor Who?
BUT I AM THE DOCTOR
I have seen all of the Dr. who TV show from 1963-2017
