Wouldn’t a greater concentration of the epsom salt be better? It seems very diluted to me and the small amount soaked into the small pellets will make the salt essentially not meaningful?
great info....keep doin' what you do....i haven't had any prob. w/ my haits, a friend of mine who breed them told me they stress easily & get bloat. mine never did....i recently lost 7 tilapia buttifokeri & 7 paratilapia polleni juvie growouts because of bloat....now i know what to do....thanks for sharing the info....lil' beani's looking solid....
hay man I have been keeping African cichlids for about 20+ years I always use Magnesium_ sulfate ( Epsom salt ) in all my tanks also Low-sodium (low salt) and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda ) and 1 or 2 drops of Iodine . I never buy any salts for my aquariums, good for the fish and keeps up the ph.
Im going to give this a try, ive got cichlid fry who are dieing and we cant figure out why. It started with one batch, and whatever it is, its spreading to others from other fish. We have tried a few things to no avail.
i add epsom salt in my water changes as a buffer i looked it up off of cichlid forum what do u all think by the way thanks for the great video awesome info
I have 17 tanks running right now, one of which is 620 Gallons. My source water is untrustworthy so it goes through a whole house filtration and softening system. Because of this, I have to remineralize it. I use magnesium sulfate and calcium chloride (after buffering with sodium bicarbonate) in all of my tanks, even the soft water tanks. It does not have a laxative effect at the rates I use for remineralizing. I also use it for treating constipation in my fancy goldfish, but at a much higher rate and in a separate tank. I have seen no ill-effects to my bio-filter, and I am an unrepentant over-stocked over-feeder lol.
Good tip. iI fish isn't eating? My angel hasn't eaten in 10 days. I'm pretty sure it has hexamita. I should do this with my other angels for prophylactic purposes since this new fish came to me sick. I'm afraid I'll have to put it to sleep.
+tomcat13claws You can also add epsom salt to the water with some API general cure. That way they get the laxative effect to poop out the worms and the api general cure to hopefully kill it. That's what I did because I had one cichlid who wouldn't eat anything!!! she is now eating small amounts 72 hours into the treatment. (she would eat more but the big fish beat her to it!) :) Good luck! Hope no fishies died
Can you use bloodworms in place for pellets? My FH is slowly recovering from a horrible case of hex for a month now. His rectal prolapse is gone and he just starting eating yesterday but still poops white and will only eat bloodworms.
My Tropheus have Silky String like poop. They had been doing okay and they were sharing a 90 gallon with Demasoni. I rehoused them and brought them back for about 1 week in the 90 gallon with Demasonis gone only 7 of them are there now. I decided to get 2 Duboisi and will introduce more but these 2 may have brought some sort of infection. The Duboisi look active but they don’t eat much. I believe 1 Tropheus is getting a fat belly it swims a bit weird. can I just take the one with bloat out and put it in a black container with epsom treated water over night? Hopefully it will crap and not be bloated.

Thanks for sharing. Are any of your fry for sale. If so, do you ship?
Does this really work for you?
does this work with any sinking pellet
For me I believe its overfeeding or feeding the wrong food.
Good job
can u just put it in the water?
does it have to be sinking pellets? I have the floating kind.
i'm pretty sure this works for floating & sinking
Thanks :-)
