  • Last week I posted a video discussing the most compelling reasons why you should turn Sebastian in and get him expelled from Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy.
In this video, let’s argue the opposite side of the case and discuss why Sebastian was right to use the dark arts to save Anne, and why we shouldn’t snitch on him after he kills his uncle.

Yeah, also he treated Sebastian like dog shit and heavily favored Anne. He kept making negative comments on how Sebastian is "just like his father". Sure, dark arts can corrupt people. But Sebastian is a child and not a fully grown fucking wizard, he is still learning and doesn't understand how terrible it can end, sure Ominis is there, but there is no adult figure who Sebastian trusts. Solomon's aggressive nature if anything pushes Sebastian more to the dark arts because he refuses to listen and be more compassionate with Sebastian's grief. Because in Sebastian's eyes he has no family left, all he has is Anne. (he doesn't count his uncle). In conclusion, Solomon is a bitter washed up auror who hates his brother so much he pushed it onto his nephew who was grieving at the idea of being alone.

It’s even weirder because as Ominous is telling you about their death, he says something like “Sebastian is going to let his obsession be the death of him like his parents.”
Then he tells us they died from a freak accident where they were reading books in the study and gas leaked.

Even if it was wrong and Solomon didn't deserve to die, he is to blame for most of what happened. For an ex-auror and a guardian he should have talked to his nephew about his experience, instead of constantly yelling at him and treating him like a pest. Sebastian started by bringing a fruit and didn't even get the chance to try when there were no negative consequences on Anne. Not to mention that he didn't just try to separate two orphan twins, he literally wanted to move away with Anne behind Sebastian's back. Of course he's gonna get irritated and impatient. As for his fate, whatever the decision, I do feel like either way its's the MC that should see himone last time and tell him about Rockwood (despite how much I love Ominis).

No one seems to give weight to Solomon attacking the MC. Sebastian does shoot at him first in a fit of anger after the relic is destroyed, but Solomon out of the blue starts blasting the MC with fire and trying to kill them! Even if Sebastian is in the wrong, Solomon is trying to kill the MC just for being there. At that point Sebastian is righteous in defending both himself and the MC. If Sebastian had been alone, then no, I think he would be guilty of murder. But throw the MC in the mix and you've got self-defense through and through.

Same here. I didn’t learn any of the unforgivable curses on my first run as it didn’t really fit with the character I wanted to portray and I didn’t know yet if there would be consequences for learning them. And, yeah, Solomon still treats you like the enemy. Even earlier in the game when you try to say that hope may do Anne some good and that he should have faith in Sebastian’s tenacity to find solutions, he expresses that you’re just as bad as Sebastian and you are a bad friend for encouraging him. The man doesn’t have a single good thing to say throughout the game. If he had supported his nephew or, at least, given him some kind of empathy things would have turned out differently.

Reasons why I didn’t turn Sebastian In
#1) Azkaban is place worse than death that drives the people confined within crazy. We are told this numerous times in the story and people typically come out worse for it.
#2) Sebastian was right when it comes to the dark arts. If a spell or ritual can be used for good why not weigh the options. In fact the Unforgivable Curses were temporarily legalized by the Ministry to fight back against Voldemort the first time he came into power and the Ministry was able to win, the spells were ofcourse made illegal again, but the point stands that the spells CAN be used for good. We also know that the Ancient Magic Sebastian was trying to harness could in fact remove curses/pain.
#3) Legally speaking, it could have been considered both self defense and a crime of passion. Both of which typically lands people with lighter sentences. Self-defense since his uncle attacked us first and stole an artifact causing the entire army of dead to attack us. Crime of passion since the destruction of his only hope to cure his sister understandably made him upset.

The same can be said about Isadora's story.
She was not a villain nor even using her magic badly.
Removing trauma and emotion? Sounds a lot like something the perfectly legal Obleviate spell can do with memory.
The trick is to not go full idiot and completely erase all emotion/memory so the subject becomes a blank slate, and instead only remove unbearable trauma.
I'm fairly sure Isadora would never even have gone this far if her supposed teachers would have actually helped her and guided her with her discovery, advising caution and being temperate, but also exploring its uses for good purposes.
Instead they constantly drove her into a corner and reprimanded her for a discovery they themselves did not even understand, or even TRIED to research to see its benefits and dangers.
Then they attacked her first, and when they started losing the battle they themselves picked they decided it was all okay to just use the unforgivable killing curse on her as if it was a justified thing to do.
    Caveman version basically being:
    Isadora: I discovered fire.
Teachers: No! its dangerous and evil! look at how it burns my hand!
Isadora: But look at how I can use it to keep myself warm, it would be useful!
    Teachers: No! Dangerous!
    Years later
Isadora: I will convince you of the usefulness of fire, look I can even use it to cook food!
Teachers: No! we have warned you, fire is dangerous! DO NOT USE!
    Years later.
Teachers: Isadora why did you start this huge fire?!
Isadora: I will show you, even by force if I have to how useful fire can be!
Teachers: ENOUGH! (attacks her with clubs)
Isadora: (Fights back with a club that's on fire)
Teachers: Oh no she's attacking us! (sneaks up and clubs her to death)
Teachers: We were justified, and she became a monster all on her own.
Best part? Those supposed good teachers then decided that, instead of destroying or using up the "byproduct" magic should be stored in a single huge ball.
You know, that byproduct that can be used to enhance one's magic when used in small doses, best to not destroy it, or use it up, but instead gift wrap it in a huge container so that anyone aspiring to become a demi-god just has to find a way to open it and absorb the power conveniently stored in just a single place.
These guys did more damage to the wizarding world then helping.

Its already revealed that the power she gain from inhaling emotion is inherently corruptive no matter the dose, ur statement is the same as all the addicts i have heard from they always say:"A small amount won't hurt" and trust me they all payed badly for it.The teachers sure don't understand that power but so is Isidora the only thing they know is that its dangerous when tampered with and its corrupted Isidora as a prime example for them to reach a conclusion. Also the spell the teachers originally used against her was disarm charm but wut did she used to counter that? A lethal curse that almost killed one of them. So do you think she using such a curse is a JUSTIFIED thing to do? The teachers only used measures proportional to the threat which in this case is she trying to kill them, ur suggesting they let themselves be killed? Even if they run away instead of killing, Isidora will continue inhaling that emotion to the point no one can stop her (a tyrant u may say) and anyone oppose her will be dead instantly (or any villain get their hands on this power really), they are thinking of the greater good in this case.
And you have to understand that this power so far has caused soooooo many innocent deaths in the pursuit of it (Maria, George,etc...). No amount of power is justified for the lives of the innocent, If you know u can make a cure for cancer but you have to do human experimentation to achieve it, sure u may save millions in the future but u gonna have to sacrifice atleast a few hundreds will you do it? And in this case with Isidora most of the people she stole emotion from weren't voluntary. All of this is enough to say this power will do more harm than good.
Another prime example in real life is nuclear energy, which was originally made to provide clean and renewable energy it was suppose to be the future of humanity where we will reach a utopia without environmental pollutions. But guess wut we gained from that energy? Weapons, hundred to thousands of nuclear warhead always in position to launch ANY TIME and countries used it to hold a gun to each other's heads (This is actually the reason why other countries can't interfere with North Korea help their citizens from their tyrant of a government because they will attack using missles at the slightest provocation). IF ONLY I CAN TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND KILL WHOEVER HAD THE IDEAS OF INVENTING THIS BLASTED THING AND THANK GOD SUCH A THING WAS AVOIDED IN HARRY POTTER UNIVERSE.

@@drackestalentorgen166 Honestly I have not seen any proof that the power in itself is addicting. (the magic byproduct that is)
Seems more like the normal addiction to power.
So I don't see any reason why they could not have just eaten the byproduct and then wasted its power by (idk, constantly using a wind charm over and over until they have used it all up)
So there would be no byproduct that can be abused, and instead keep the secret of the ability to remove painfull emotions.
Though I still stand steadfast in my belief they could have prevented all of this by simply being proper teachers and researchers by aiding Isadora in her research instead.
Advising caution and restraint, but not rejecting the idea.
It could obviously be used for good purposes.
And if properly perfected they might have been able to avoid the byproduct completely, or render it harmless and instead have it function the same as memories for a pensive.
Storing the negative emotions away, but still with the ability to retrieve them when needed (and without giving people a boost in power when they eat it)
Like the simple example, she discovered fire and was murdered for trying to improve lives.
Fire is inherently dangerous, we all know that.

I am a firm believer in Sirius Black's quote to Harry Potter in the Order of the Pheonix Film. "We've all got both Light and Dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are." Just because bad things have happened to a good person that has thrown them into bad situations where they have to make difficult choices doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad. And just because someone is [Insert Hogwarts House/Profession Here], doesn't necessarily mean they're bad or evil by default.
    [Rationale] ** SPOILER WARNING **
I understand Sebastian Sallow's rationale, reasons, and resolve. What he's attempting to do is good and a noble cause; however, I agree that he went about it in all the wrong ways, and he absolutely took things way too far and become lost in his single-minded attempt to save Anne. On one hand, Sebastian could have chosen to focus on spending the remaining time he had left with his sister. However, knowing that he * could * have done something to save her, and then not even trying, goes against everything he stands for being a Slytherin. We know that, through the story's narrative, his sister Anne is really the only family he has left. Sabastian loves his sister deeply and would do anything to help cure her or ease her pain. Additionally, I understand that since his parents died, his sister, Ominus Gaunt, Hogwarts, and us/the player, are the only happy things he has left going for him. So, I can understand that if seemingly the whole world turned its back on you, you'd feel you need to do whatever it took by yourself. Sure, I take away points from Sebastian for not considering Anne's feelings and wants on the matter, but I do give him points for trying. However, the real issue in Sebastian's story arc is his uncle, Solomon Sallow, who is an ex-Auror and Unspeakable. It also doesn't help that Solomon is a stubborn, thick-skulled, prickly dick who makes stupid choices (case why he was fired/removed from office). In the scenario Hogwarts Legacy sets up for us, I actually blame Solomon Sallow. Solomon refuses to sit down and discuss things with Sebastian like an adult and provide him with any decent rationale or explanation for his refusal to help Anne. Sure, Solomon tried basic healing incantations, Wiggenweld potions, and Shrivvlefigs, but that is the extent of his "treatment" before deciding Anne couldn't be saved. Instead, Solomon completely and utterly gave up and argues with Sebastian about looking into alternatives for curing Anne and brushes him off at every turn. He simply states that she cannot be healed without any explanation. Instead of listening to Sebastian's viewpoints and considering his feelings, Solomon forces his own viewpoints and opinions onto Sebastian and his sister. This, coupled with a general dislike of having to take in Sebastian and his sister after their parents died, only compounds the issue, which leads to volatile and rash actions out of Sebastian.
We only learn later on that it was Victor Rookwood who cursed Anne Sallow in Feldcroft that day and said, "children should be seen, not heard." However, unbeknownst to Solomon Sallow, Sebastian Sallow, and Anne Sallow at the time this story takes place in Hogwarts Legacy, there were indeed a couple of counters and cures for lesser curses, charms, jinxes, and hexes that could have saved Anne without having to resort to the Inferi Dark Relic:
    1) For starters, a curse/dark charm can be stopped/removed by the wizard or witch who originally cast it if they so choose (** except for Avada Kedavera). We, the player, could have either Imperioed Vicktor Rookwood into undoing the curse he placed on Anne Sallow, so or got him to do it by another means.
    2) Pheonix Tears had immense healing properties and were one of the only known ways of breaking all curses/jinxs/hexes. However, Pheonix are astronomically rare and are critically endangered. Lucky for Sebastian, we actually rescued one of the last known ones and could have used it to save Anne. Another is Unicorn Blood; however, that one actually curses the drinker with a different curse.
    3) Blessings are counter-spells for Curses, Jinxes, Hexes, and Charms that are used by Curse-Breakers. Two such counter-spells are "Liberacorpus" (To Free the Body) and Severus Snape's "Vulnera Sanentura" (May the Wounds be Healed). One such Curse-Breaker in this story who * COULD/WOULD * have helped Anne, would have been the Deputy Head-Mistress, Matilda Weasley.
[Regarding Sebastian's use of Unforgivable Curses] --
Even " IF " one needs to actually mean to cause someone harm/torture/death in order for an Unforgivable Curse to work properly (Imperio/Crucio/Avada Kedavera), all spells in the Harry Potter-verse are dictated by intent, emotion, skill, and proper wand gesture and use of the incantation. The more clear/precise the intent and the more potent the emotion used behind the spell, the more powerful a spell's effects will be. The same is true on the other scale (weaker/less potent). I bet it wouldn't be impossible for a person (Sebastian) to cast an unforgivable curse on someone they don't/didn't actually want to hurt (Us/Player Character), while thinking of another person that they actually do (Solomon/Ranrok), albeit at a reduced potency and effectiveness. ** And while a person " CAN " cast Unforgivable Curses and kill others, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're a bad person or that they have become seduced by the Dark Arts and can no longer control their bloodlust (Ex #1: Professor Severus Snape, who was asked by Dumbledoor to cast Avada Kedevra on him in the Astronomy Tower in order to save Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape from Voldemort and Belatrix. Ex: #2: Harry Potter, who cast Imperio on a goblin at Gringotts Bank in order to get into Belatrix Lastrange's vault to destroy one of Voldemorts Horcrux's).
    [In conclusion] --
So, in conclusion, yes, Sebastian Sallow may have committed some horrible and illegal acts. However, I think it's important to look at and understand the reasons behind them, as well as the overall outcomes. So long as Sebastian fully understands what he did, feels guilt/remorse over it, learned a lesson from it, and is attempting to make amends and become a better person; then I don't think I would have the heart to betray him and turn him in. Nor would it be justice - the morally correct thing to do. Wizarding world justice and corrections at its point in time is essentially either torture or locking someone away and forgetting about them until they die. If you betray Sebastian Sallow and choose to turn him in, it is a completely Lose-Lose scenario. The outcome being -- Solomon Sallow dies while trying to uphold his arrogant viewpoints and stop Sebastian. Sebastian Sallow will, for the remainder of his life, be tortured by Dementors and kept alone and isolated in Azkaban Prison until his death. Anne Sallow, for the remainder of her life, will suffer and die heartbroken, in pain, and all alone. And Ominus Gaunt will lose his only friend, which causes him immense distress and suffering, leading him (and his family) down the path of eventually creating one of the worst Dark Wizards of all time, Tom Marvolo Riddle (Voldemort)

I agree it should have been more open. Our choices never mattered, except whether to turn Sebastian in. During the main story, "removing pain" refers to emotional pain, not pain caused by dark curses. That's why Isidora's father lost his ability to feel emotions. There was a missed possibility here. We promised Sebastian to discuss this with the Keepers at least, but we never got the option to bring it up. Even if Isidora's method can't be used, we had access to four very old, powerful, and knowledgeable wizards. Maybe they knew a different way to help Anne or at least where to look for a solution that didn't involve the dark arts.

      It’s a difficult one
Anne doesn’t want anything to do with him anyway once he kills Solomon (and she still has us and Ominis)
There’s also the issue of - if he is let off the hook once, what’s to stop him from feeling the urge to carry on. He still holds I’ll will to his uncle and believes he did the right thing even if he regrets it, he’s practically left with no one and no direction fkr his future, opening him up to easily fall further down that dark hole into the dark arts
The *only* thing that stopped me from turning him in - we know that Azkaban isn’t exactly a fine pillar of a correctional institute. It’s just as (if not more) guaranteed that throwing him a way to rot in there will turn him either more resentful, or so depressed he hurts himself. It’s unlikely he will reflect, change and reform
At least away from there and under our own watchful eye, he stands more of a chance or any sort of reform. It’s still a gamble though, and it’s one kf the toughest decisions to justify either way in the game.
And I think that’s the point - the ending is as tragic as the events themselves, there is no ending that lets you sleep soundly at night

And take Voldemort’s mother for instance!
She fooled Voldemort’s muggle father Tom Riddle into a relationship with her and even had a kid with him pretty much without him knowing thanks to love potions.
Totally normal, acceptable and not at all r*pey according to wizarding law! But if she had used Imperio on the poor guy to the exact same end, then it becomes a problem all of the sudden?
And does San Bakaar killing Isidora make him more evil than her if it means saving countless lives including his own?

Had Solomon been more open to experimentation and supportive of Sebastian looking for a cure (and not destroyed that Shrivelfig like WHY there was no downside to trying a damn fruit!), he might not have descended to the use of Dark Magic. And even if Sebastian did descend anyway, it would be Solomon's responsibility as his guardian to talk him out of it calmly, and support safer ways of finding a cure- NOT banishing him from Feldcroft and then trying to leave with his sister behind his back!
Sebastian definitely wasn't right, per say, for using the Dark Arts (except Crucio, that I deem a necessity), but he he only takes half the blame, and the other half of the blame goes to Solomon, for handling a delicate situation with his desperate nephew VERY poorly. Sebastian has enough sense to know that when he's very emotional, he needs to walk off and think so that he doesn't say or do anything he regrets. The one time he couldn't walk away, was the time his emotional state reached such a breaking point that he wound up killing his Uncle.
Solomon didn't deserve to die, and Sebastian must be held responsible to an extent. But they were both idiots and both are to blame for the Catacombs disaster. Sebastian doesn't need Azkaban, he needs help! He's 15 years old! And since the only two options in the Wizarding world are hell-on-earth Azkaban and freedom, then I'd rather Sebastian have his freedom.

He insinuates that Anne's sudden attack is Sebastian's fault, when it's established they're entirely random, so he's basically using Sebastian's sister's pain against him to make Sebastian feel like shit. He portrays Sebastian's parents as some dangerous pioneers, when their deaths were accidents. Instead of trying everything to help Anne, he stops any attempt and keep her basically shut away and victim to random bouts of agony so she can be Solomon's pet patient.
He openly crushes Sebastian's hopes, slams him for saving Anne's life and tries to drive a wedge between Sebastian and his sister. Then at the end he, an adult ex-auror, openly attacks two students using lethal magic.
By the last aencounter I didn't need persuading. I was way ahead of Sebastian trying to murder the prick before he killed us both. My bro Sallow just got the AK in there first. Naturally I made sure he didn't go to Azkaban, and brought Ominis round to the idea.

Just curious what everyone else's thoughts are on this (sorry for the wall of text lol):
So I've heard a bunch of people say that to cast the Unforgivable curses you have to mean them, or want to cause pain/kill/control etc so that right there is proof enough that Sebastian is evil and should be turned in. I know that's true to an extent but I feel like there's more to it. For example, Ominis's backstory- he refused to cast the cruciatus curse on muggles because he found it so horrible but then his own family tortured him with it until he finally gave in and did it just to make the pain stop, and he's lived in regret and never forgiven himself since then. Even with that knowledge I certainly don't think Ominis's character is evil (and feel like most people would agree) and don't think his character ever genuinely wanted to torture some muggles. I've always thought you don't necessarily have to want/like to cause pain/kill etc.. so much as you just have to intend or even need the spell to work in the moment you cast it. It seems interesting that the game offers that information earlier on.
Am I interpreting that wrong? I mean even Harry used the imperius curse a couple times in the final book and I don't think he has some hidden desire for power. (Btw I did not turn Sebastian in- given what I mentioned above, and also the fact that the game suggested Solomon had used dark magic himself in the past, and the fact that the main character yelled at Solomon to stop multiple times while fighting him before Sebastian finally killed him, and the fact that Sebastian dropped his wand and looked shocked/horrified after, andddd irl if someone is attacking you in real life and you kill them it's generally considered self-defense, I didn't really think twice about not turning him in.)

    • @FlorentiusIV
      @FlorentiusIV Год назад +8

It's not that using one of these curses means you are evil.. Just that whatever curse you are using is that IN THE MOMENT you have to mean it. People can have fleeting thoughts that are bad or "evil" but that doesn't mean we act on them.. These spells are like conduits for these sinister thoughts. When Sebastian killed his uncle that surely was a heat of the moment call; it being a combination of self-defense, frustration and anger. Same goes for Ominis, he wanted to hurt those muggles because he didn't want to be hurt anymore.. It was a survival instinct, not inherently evil. But upon reflection both Sebastian and Ominis felt guilty and bad about it.
All of us have bad thoughts at times and thankfully mostly don't act on them because of self-restraint and even when we want to we usually don't have the means to act on those bad thoughts and our logic reasoning takes over.. But if you had to the tools to do so easily at your fingertips.. It's one mistake away.
Of course, there are also those who believe just ending the threat for the greater good is a good enough reason to kill someone.. Like Professor Bakar did in the memories.
I believe the general consensus is that if you readily and easily use the unforgiveable curses, you lack discipline and self-restraint and are a danger to yourself and those around you because of it.

    • @emmasilver2332
      @emmasilver2332 Год назад +3

@@FlorentiusIV To mean it and to want it are two different things. For example, I didn't want to punch my sexual assailant in the groin, but I sure didn't do it by accident either. I did what I had to do in order to make it stop. I meant it, and I don't regret it, but if I had been strong enough to escape or persuasive enough to get him to stop without causing him excruciating pain I would not have put him through that, because I genuinely hate seeing anyone in pain, whether or not they deserve it. Have I experienced fleeting thoughts of malice towards another person? Of course. Everyone does from time to time. But you can absolutely mean for something to happen whilst also having absolutely no desire for it to happen. We don't put our pets down because we want to, we do it because they are suffering and we would rather not let them continue to suffer.
In the case of Sebastian, I doubt he would have even considered casting the Cruciatus curse on one of his friends if it weren't for the fact that all three of them were going to starve to death if the curse wasn't cast. And I imagine most people would rather suffer the Cruciatus curse for a few minutes than suffer the prolonged pains of starvation and dehydration. I know I would. Sebastian didn't have a shred of anger towards the MC when he cast the spell. He even says "I shan't forget this" when the MC tells Sebastian to cast it on him/her, indicating that he's grateful the MC is willing to suffer the pain for him. Not a shred of anger or malice, yet the spell still connects. One can only assume with this information that Sebastian didn't actually WANT to torture his friend, he was simply willing to do what needed to be done to prevent something objectively worse.

According to lore, the so called "dark arts" or even "unforgivable curses" are no different from regular magic. Its the Ministry of Magic that legislates whether a spell is "dark" or not. There are far worse and sadistic spells than the three curses, and they're not even considered dark.

Crucio is torture but I dont know if its the worse torture you can do logically you can use incarcerous to bind them literally burn somebody to death with incendio and even slow the rate at which they burn so they die a slow agonizing death as their insides burst, magic makes most body parts dismemberment no longer an issue as long as it wasnt powerful dark magic like sectumsempra they can heal that shit and do it over and over again. Crucio is only tricking your pain receptors but real torture would truly break someone faster and worse than bellatrix lestrange broke frank and alice longbottom using only crucio so id argue crucio is actually the tamest form of torture in the wizarding world

He just busted in saying "what are you two doing!?" and me with a surprised pikachu face was like: "I'm not doing anything, I just got here" but instead of finding out what's really going on, he threatens to snitch on us, takes the relic and destroys it without even checking what it does, even when that was the thing that was controlling the inferi that were all around us. Like DUDE! And on top of that, instead of fighting the inferi alongside us to get the hell out of that place alive so we can talk this out, he just freaking attacks us! WTF bro! But still... using the killing curse on him was a bit too far... and I'd say Sebastian was a bit too desperate and obsessed. The first person who researched the relic wrote in their notes that using the relic had too high a price to pay. What if to use it you had to sacrifice a bunch of living people. The thing about dark arts is that most of it requires paying a high price for using it because what it accomplishes is also really powerful, to the point it's consider sinister. I mean, I don't think using some of the unforgivables against real evil people is really that unforgivable, but in a lot of cases, dark arts are bad news.

I don't think I could ever turn him in. Kids lost his parents, practically his twin sister as well due to the curse and his Uncle does nothing but pick a fight with him, be antagonistic towards him and really just treat him unfairly. He's a kid who wants to save his sister, who feels like no ones else cares. I was not surprised that it culminated in the way it did. If his Uncle had shown an ounce of empathy, or communicated with him, in a way that showed he cared, I believe Sebastian would not have have gone down the 'dark arts' path. He could've explained his experiences with the dark arts but no. The more his Uncle pushed back, the more Sebastian would dig his heals in and become more determined to prove him wrong. So while he in NO WAY deserved to die, I do believe If he'd showed he cared, that it kills him too that nothing can save Anne, Sebastian would not have lost himself. His own actions, I believe ultimately brought about his death - just how I see things.
Sebastian's responsible for killing him 100% - he made that choice, but he's a 15/16 year old kid who wants to save his sister. He 's got no true understanding of the dark arts. The adult, in this situation, did not handle the situation in the right way at all. Killing his uncle was a step too far and I did say 'no one should know that spell' after woods. But I couldn't turn him in because I felt for his character. I could see what had caused this and how remorseful he is after woods. He knows what he did was wrong and he will have to live with it for the rest of his life. It's a complex situation but I think his uncle is partly responsible for what Sebastian chose to do. Turning him in would isolate him further and turn him more towards the dark arts. I'm nothing if not a Hufflepuff who believes he needs a friend in his corner to save him from himself. But also I tend to think it's pretty hypocritical when your character is killing people left right and centre lol 😂🤣

Here’s how I justified in not turning him in. During most of the choices there were choices where it made moral sense in learning the spells mainly when we learn Imperio where before you find the relic you learn it more for use in combat against dark creatures (I consider that a morally ok time to use that spell and honestly taking control of someone/something has always been that morally grey type of power that a lot of fiction use anyway where it can be used for good or bad), with Crucio all 3 choices technically do have some morality behind in learning or not learning them as long mainly for the two you decide to learn the spell you are able too explain why you learned them in that way with actual intent with no dishonesty in your words. Avada Kedavra choices however is when I noticed one was definitely the moral choice while the other had no clear morality too it which would’ve been fine if there was a third option, the option where I would agree there are times where it would make sense to use the spell but tell him straight up that that time wasn’t one of them and reprimand him for it, with that type of option it can still given us room in actually learning the spell but also tell him that no you were in the wrong and you need to accept the consequences for that action (now it doesn’t mean I would have turned him in or not if this option was available but for my own sense of morality it would’ve given me a better time in coming too the right conclusion for my judgement to either get him taken in or not), but no we didn’t get that choice so I originally was going to tell him was in the wrong but as soon I noticed I wouldn’t learn the killing curse I reloaded a older save and picked the option to agree with him even though personally I didn’t and honestly can see they should’ve put a third option in this part. When it comes to deciding in the end because of there no third option in that scene I knew I couldn’t turn him in mainly for he wasn’t fully in control of himself and for the technical morality he did have in his character development that for me personally overwrites (somewhat) his worst deeds and he has been a bro to us from the beginning and we did technically learn the spells as well I couldn’t just turn him in, luckily however the ending he got practically gave him a punishment in living on he now knows what he did was wrong and now has to suffer living with at knowledge which more me especially for those times and how bad Azkaban was that was definitely punishment enough

The way I see it, both Sebastian and Solomon are at fault here. Solomon was so focused on Anne's suffering that he couldn't or wouldn't see what Sebastian was going through. He kept pushing him away that it's little wonder that the poor kid snapped.
On the other hand, Sebastian tends to get lost in his emotions (which he openly admits to the MC) and doesn't think things through. I mean, good for you, you found a holocron that allows you to whip up and control an army of zombies. How the hell does that translate to "I can heal curse victims"? I'm not one to tell people to stop when it comes to helping family, but at the very least, slow down and think for a second.
To sum up all of this, if these two actually had a decent conversation instead of going straight into a pissing match, things might've ended up differently. As for the consequences of either choice, I suppose we'll find out should we get a sequel.

I have a moral middle-ground with the unforgivables, mainly because of all the instances when they're used neutrally. Imperio, for example, was used in an emergency to gain access to gringotts in the deathly hallows, and aside from the one time harry uses Crucio in a fit of rage, he never uses that spell again. I made the mistake of not learning the death curse but then again I'm not likely to use it on anyone anytime soon, except once or twice in the dark arts arena. Maybe next time I'll learn it.

My issue is azkaban is not a just punishment for a kid trying to save his dying little sister and being stopped by his emotionally abusive and controlling uncle. Cause really, Sebastian was grieving in his own way but wasn't allowed. Even when he wasn't using dark magic, the uncle would stop it. He didn't try to save her and he tried to control Sebastian's grieving process too. The Uncle was abusive, not just to Sebastian but Anna. He made her completely dependent on his care, no wonder she turns on her own brother. Add to that, I don't think they were living with their Uncle for very long either. I got the impression it was a few years max since their father died. So the Uncle comes in and bullies two kids as one is actively dying. The one who should be in Azkaban is the Uncle. And when the Uncle fights Sebastian and the player, that is definitely self defense, so it's definitely not murder. The way i see it, Sebastian killed his abuser and I'm not going to rat him out for that. Personally, I wish there was a way to get Sebastian help instead of prison. He needs therapy, not prison.

I didn't turn Sebastian in. The way I see it, he's a young boy who watched his parents die in front of him, and now watching his sister die slowly and painfully. He was likely curious of the dark arts anyway, but when his many attempts at curing Anne were rebuffed by Solomon, that's when we see him turn to the dark arts as a solution. His character is so desperate to save his sister, to not experience more loss in his life (and to not be left alone with his unsupportive uncle who puts him down every time we meet him). While I was playing the game, I originally thought the dark power surrounding Slytherin's book and the relic somewhat corrupted him and pushed him further into the dark arts as the game progressed, because once he got that book, that's when I noticed his personality flip (I thought there was going to be a reveal that the book was a horcrux or something!). So IDK, I felt too sad for him (knowing his backstory) to turn him in.

I think the issue with the Dark Arts has more to do with intent. The difference between killing with Incendio v. Avada Kadabra is when you use killing curses you "have to mean it." The intent with the unforgivable curses is you have to WANT to hurt someone. The difference between spellcasting is a spell like Incendio is used for defense and death is a byproduct. An unforgiveable curse is used with the intention to harm and only the intention to harm and if you don't want to cause harm, the spell fails.
In many lore, dark magic (or dark arts) has an extremely high price that places the castor and others in danger. In some lore as well as Harry Potter (ie. Tom Riddle and the horcruxes) it distorts the individual's personality and identity the more it is utilized. While the castor may be willing to pay the "price" in many lore and stories, uninvolved bystanders are also subject to the dark magic "cost" which is why it is considered unethical.
So while magic is a tool, the nature of Dark Arts is to either cause harm or to distort the natural order of the universe. Therefore, the intent to harm (whether intentional or unintentional) is already apparent during casting
