A lot of good info. here, thanks. Like many I'm a transplant. There are so many opportunities for fishing in the U.S. South. Pier etiquette is a big thing and I avoided the coastal piers when the kids were small. Also there is some many nice spots inland that the law will not let you fish, sadly.
Feedback from friends is that the locals at Sebastain are a pretty unfriendly lot. What strength line on the heavy outfit and is mono better than braid if fishing straight down the pilings due to better abrasion resistance.
Man I miss the old Jax Beach pier. I remember once catching 21 spanish in less than a hour. My old red and white seahawk lure with black stripes literally looked like shredderd balsa wwood and lead by the end of the day.
Grouper season opened and i asked this question to a local at skyway pier. What if i hooked up to tarpon by accident how do i unhooked the fish? He said NEVER cut the line. He added keep fighting until the fish tires out or broke of. once tired, reel until fish is below you by the pier, full lock down drag, point rod tip to the fish down below tight tension then pull up he said 90% of time the hook will pop off. He also added then low chance of getting the fish mouth ripped as well.
I have stopped pier fishing on the beach because I swear all of them near me are filled with the people that can be VERY rude and can become very crowded. Pinellas FL so clearwater old Redington(gone now) etc.
Pier etiquette is definitely a thing. I've been called some weird stuff for crossing lines with people. I'm very new to pier fishing but I've learned to stay in my lane.
Crossing line is bound to happen and pretty common in piers-fighting big fish, gust of wind, current change. The thing i hate the most is people hogging the whole area with 5 or more rods unattended. I dont get it. why fish if you can only use 1 or 2 rods at a time.
A buddy of mine went to a pier and Grand Isle Louisiana and somebody crossed his line. He was so mad that he left. And the thing is me and him was supposed to go together. I have not been there yet but he refuses to go because of that one incident. I'm like good grief it is bound to happen. Lol but he refuses to even give it a second chance now I told him to lighten up but he still mad about it and that was 2 weeks ago. Good grief...
@@trevorhalford8410 take you buddy to some of the piers here in Florida like in Navarre or Sebastian inlet Lol your buddy might have a nervous breakdown leading to heart attack lol

There is a Tarpon Rodeo here in south Louisiana once a year. Then Anglers catch some huge tarpon! But me I'm all about the redfish and speckled trout.

Agreed everyone at Sebastian thinks theyre some entitled asshole if they go there everyday

I should correct that. what piers near me are new pier fishermen friendly.

When I go pier fishing, I take 3 rods only, a small bait rod, a medium rod for jigs and a heavy rod for the bait caught on the small rod.
Some of the best fishing in NC is inshore piers in the sound. Ive done better for specs and flounder and drum in the sound than on the beach.
