You guys should definitely be getting more recognition for the information and content you give us! Please continue to do these types of vids. They help people out like me who love to fish but have other responsibilities and I can’t fish all the time but I love to know all the up to date best products for the buck. You guys are great !
I would love to see a surf fishing version as I don’t have any of the slam group on my part of the west coast we’re all rock and small sections of sand beaches
This is great. Let's get a pier and surf edition! haha
Agreed
A few of us would LOVE to see the "Pier Fishing" version....PLEASE ? ? tk you for your dedication, WE SUPPORT YOU ! !
We've really been enjoying the Berkeley Lightning Rods and Ozark Trail graphite rods from Walmart. They come in several sizes from 6-7ft. We buy the medium action and they've held up really well against multiple slot reds and trout over here on the GA coast. Granted, our slot is smaller than alot of other places, but still pretty solid rods for the price (~$40)
For the reels I've been using the Shimano slx 2500s.
We have some Penn fierce, pursuit, and wraith but I always find myself reaching for the Berkeley and OTX.
I’ve used the tails of the slam shady’s (ty) on the flats jigs and bucktails when the paddle tail would split trying to rig on a jig head. Ended up working great!
Yeah i too have done this , I have a hard time with them splitting on the top on jig heads but they stay on the hook still and catch fish
I am a fan of inline hooks as well for a number of reasons and have traded out treble hooks on most of the baits I use. It takes a lot of patience, touch of skill, and the right equipment to make the change out. I'm sure many end up getting more injured trading out hooks than from fishing. There are also a few baits, mostly old that do not work with inlines, but need an offset hook.
I use the Daiwa Back Bay 3000 on a Dark Matter MF 7ft Rod. Power pro V2 10lb braid. With a Daiwa 30lb leader. .Very good set up I believe.
Definitely want to see a mid tier and high tier version of this.
Very helpful gentlemen! I'm joining!! Im in Midland TX currently but going to move down to Rockport and start slamming!!
Great list definitely have many of the products listed !!
Those scissors are game changers
Luke’s reactions to some of Joe’s sarcasm, priceless😂
On another note… the Texas to Virginia reference gotta stop. The flounder trout reds are in Maryland waters too! I’ll drop a pic or two in the insider club now! Texas to Maryland joe Texas to Maryland ! Also a 20+ striped bass aka rockfish were caught on 2.0 last weekend and the biggest white perch I’ve ever seen. God bless y’all and tight lines
To be fair, we are getting reds, specks, kings and cobia in jersey by July now. I'm as giddy as a school girl! Haha
I was going to buy a new spinning outfit for bass and I think you all have talked me into getting the Diawa Fuego. Was going to buy the Lew's KVD 300 but I may have just changed my mind. Also, looking into the TFO rods too.
Awesome to hear!
Great information. Please do one on pier fishing.
Stay tuned!
Thanks for the list!
I have a medium TFO tactical and it’s much lighter than my medium St Croix Avid, Mojo inshore and my IMX pros but it is a phenomenal rod I have it in light as well and it’s great only complaint is it’s a lot colder in cold weather than other rods I have
Super high on my list is zoom super fluke 5” in watermelon red flake and houdini color. This bama water is dirty most of the time.
Gator trout killer.
Throw them on a 3/0 wide gap hook. Unweighted if the bite is slow like after a front. The thing just hangs there like magic.
Normal conditions, 1/16 if it’s shallow water. 1/8 if it’s deeper water.
I have caught large mouth bass on in fresh water on a shrimp lure .
Awesome! 💪Thanks for the nice comment! We appreciate the support!
Penn pursuit iv I think is a better value. But the Fuego is nice as well.
Thanks for the comment!
My inner enginerd loves the magseal, but my technorealist winces at special magnetic oil. I'm sure it keeps salt water out, but sand? Not so sure about that one. Also I don't buy the 22lb drag number.
MY budget recommendation is the Pursuit III 2500 on a Berkley BSLR661MH Lightning - a 6' 6" rod, spooled with bright color (I like yellow best) 15 or 20lb braid. If you have a 100 dollar bill, you can get a pretty nice rod and reel complete to the braid. Add terminal tackle, and you're fishing.
I have long winded stories why, and what other gear I went through to find what I like - but that's the short short of it.
I personally have this setup - except I have a Spinfisher IV 2500 on that rod, the Pursuit is on a Berkley Amp 1 piece saltwater 6'6" rod with similar specs to the lightning but split lower grip, weird blue camo ... nothing wrong with it, but I like the Lightning better. I was actually looking for another one of those, but I got that Amp for 30 bucks - now I can only find the 2 piece Amp for cheap, the 1 piece is 80 bucks so I went looking...
The Pursuit III is a WHOLE lot like the Spinfisher (in that size and series) with a couple of "minor" differences. The Pursuit is about $130 less than the Spinfisher. The Spinfisher has 1 more bearing, 15lb instead of 10lb max drag (probably 1 more HT-100 washer - haven't checked), it's sealed, and it's fit and finish are better -but absolutely NOTHING wrong with the pursuit.
Now as for sealed ... I have not yet forked one of the Pursuits up (I have ... 3 of them I think?) and I don't rinse them religiously. I just also don't make a habit of dunking them or throwing them in the sand. The Spinfishers - I've dunked one ( a spinfisher V 4500 liveliner went 6 feet under at a dock into the muddy sandy bottom where I dove in and grabbed it) did NOT rinse it, and it still works like new. I don't think the Pursuit would have taken that as nicely. HOWEVER - I don't baby them. They've been laid down in some sandydirt, and taken spray, not rinsed - no problems. I just haven't dunked them then buried them in beach sand and reeled without wiping off.
So - somebody told me they make a Slammer in 2500 ... I think that's ridiculous. Slammers are great - but they're heavy. I sort of consider those boat rods, or maybe for live / cut bait where you're not casting 100x / hour. They're also even more costly than the spinfishers...
Thanks for the feedback!
Please do a surf fishing pod cast
Coming soon! 💪
Here is a video in the mean time: www.saltstrong.com/articles/read-the-beach-surf-fishing/
@@Saltstrong thanks, now I am hungry for more!!!!!
Do one for boat less fishermen
You said moderate action rods weren't generally good to use. The thing with moderate action rods are intended for treble hooks an light wire hooks. If you use a standard medium or medium heavy with fast action tip, you could rip a hole in fishes mouth. Yes standard medium or medium heavy with fast action tip is great for standard hooks, like swimming flipping an football head jigs. Buzz baits chatterbait frog lures Texas rig style hooks, shaky heads an lures an hooks of that nature.
Thanks for the insight!
I tried some single hooks in the black coating on my SS Jr., but they rusted out immediately. Is there a Stainless hook brand and model that you recommend?
Why wouldn't you use the Slam Shady in 10 ft water?
You guys should try fish here in Hawaii.
Luke has fished there before!
I use a lot fo swim baits all colors
Every time I hear you say skinhook the tip I wince.
Is there any difference between your power prawn and a monster 3x shrimp other than the rattles?
Same material from what I can see
What’s is the specific model of TFOTFG Professional Spinning Rods of the power and sensitivity rating of 7”6 ft? Anyone know thanks!
I don't fish salt water but I use the lures for northern pike because of thr bright colors and they never seen these lures before therfore they hit i don't tell anyone my secrets iam going to join because a need rod and more lures
Awesome! 💪💪 So glad that you have been finding success with the lures! They really are the best kept fully advertised secret! 💪😂
Looking forward to seeing you in the insider community!
I joined salt strong last night and then every rod was out of stock
Big sad
The entire tackle industry is having trouble keeping rods (plus many other items) in stock due to the nationwide shipping issues. The rods we recommend and carry have proven to be the best value so they are of course in high demand thus very tough to keep in stock. We have big quantities on order and shipments arrive on a monthly basis so be sure to use the Notify Me system so that you get notified when whichever rod(s) you're interested in arrive.
