What’s Inside: Inkjet Cartridges-WIRED
Animated by: Lukas Vojir
i miss printers that would print black if you were out of one of the colours. Now adays, if one colour is empty, the whole printer shuts down. you cant print black even if you wanted to.
Ehhh, most printers I believe if you go into the print driver you can set to use only one cartridge.
recentenly have a printer can print mixed black, in case run out off black ink… in case off Brother Printers...
My canon pixma ts3122 prints black only if you run out of color and it was only $35 at Walmart
Mine has an option to print in black and white if you're out of color
In most printers there is still a manual method to bypass ink status check, it's usually a one time thing then if the color ink is out it'll still print black.
i say just buy a refill kit. walmart used to sell them, we bot like 52 for 30$ each and that lasted us for like 4 years. was just basicly vials of ink youd drip into the cartridges to refill them.
we all know ink cartridges are a ripoff.
*It prints like no other **Bestt.Digital** printer. i have always loved Epson for the colors they produce.*
Make more What's Inside videos, they are awesome!
I literally bought the cheapest refill ink available on ebay for $3 and it works flawlessly
At the cost of ink cartridges, I'm estimating about a penny per drop.
this video makes ink look awesome. Great Job WIRED :)
I didn`t know that there were so many technical gubbins inside a print head. Now I know why they are so expensive.
WOW! What an awesome animation and narrative! This video is great! Thanks!
are we going to talk about how flawless this animation is for 2014?
Thank you. I had been dying to understand this. This gives me atleast some idea. Though I still want to know how ink flow control is done. .......but may be some other source. Good word TEAM WIRED
What's the exact name of the sponge material in the cartridge?
God bless.
Interesting process with ink cartridges.
This video is too awesome.
fantastic animation. laser printer ftw
No where it's mentioned there is a sponge in the cartridge... 🤔
0:29 It's called "antifreeze" not "antifree", you know, like for your car.
i cut one open and it was like sand is that the stuf that slows the ink down
That was too advanced
Switch to laser and toner refill!
Mind blowing...
doesnt even look like reactive red 23
OMG ink cartridges in our local store retails at $10. So expensive
😂 What's in an inkjet cartridge ? NOTHING ! 🤭
Well Epson’s inks are quite similar but cost must less (refillable ones). Wonder what they did, oh wait, less greed.
I use an Epson Eco-Tank printer, and the ink comes in bottles which you can top up the level easily when it falls below a certain level. It’s much more economical than using the cartridges, and cheaper in the long run.
I busted open one of my used hp ink cartidges and atleast 90% percent of the cartidge was styrofoam.
its worth a lot more than fancy champagne. a full cartridge lets you print hundreds of pages while a cartridge of champagne is not even enough to give you a buzz..
Everybody shut up about most of the cartridge not even having ink. There needs to be space for the printhead mechanism. Ink doesn't just pop out into its place like magic.
costs 3 cents a litter to produce, 50$/10ml to buy. You make the call.
I CANCELED MY HP INSTANT INK SUBSCRIPTION. I STILL HAVE A HALF FULL COLOR INK CARTRIDGE AND CANT USE IT BECAUSE HP HAS LOCKED THE CARTRIDGE. HOW CAN I UNLOCK THIS CARTRIDGE AND USE IT? THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP ON THIS. RAY
What's Inside Toner Cartridges?
Lol ink cartridges use CMYK not RGB
Same thing for CMYK printers.
Now the high ink prices make sense
It really doesn't. The research to develop this has been repaid over probably hundreds or thousands of times. It costs $0.10 to make everything in the entire cartridge including the electronics. Buy a refill kit and take your time and you can get hundreds of refills worth for like 15-20 bucks. One of the biggest scams.
Bruh. A lot of science
Wtf lexmark? Lexmark made it so that all the nozzles are within the printer head and all the ink is just stored like an inkpad in the cartridge. It should be cheaper that way, right?
wrong percentage its 95% air 5 ink(with water)
This is such an inaccurate representation of what it really looks like.
Spiffy.
Spiffy means well-dressed.
HP locks your printer if you try to re-fill their cartridges or use cheaper compatible ones. Use an old cartridge of the HP brand, and they lock the printer; if you stop paying their subscription, they lock your printer; it's one of the scummiest companies I've come across.
My call is: NO.
sprb
Lies and scams duh
