I hope you get lucky, but it’s pretty unlikely. My understanding is that Tesla has produced about 1 million 4680 battery cells to date, which is enough for about 1000 Model Ys.
I do not think you will see extended range with 4680. Tesla said expect that they will use smaller battery packs with same overall range. This reduces TSLA's cost per car. They will not offer the same car from 2 different factories with different ranges.
Im also crossing my fingers I get my model Y with 4680 battery pack. I live 45 minutes away from the Fremont factory so hopefully I do get the 4680!!🤞🏼
@@RuebenRambles I'm in NC but I ordered a Performance model. I think the demand is so high for the LR that I wouldn't expect it to shift up but who knows!
I ordered my Model Y in August of 2021, it was just a regular long range model. It keeps getting pushed back.. now it's delivery date is June .. almost a full year of when I ordered it, pretty frustrating. But I am praying that I will get the updated battery! that's the only redeeming part of this delay.
Wow that's a huge delay. It's crazy they are pushing it out almost a year. Hopefully you will get the new battery to make up for it. It's crazy how long the lead times are these days. I remember when I ordered my Model 3 I waited 8 weeks and thought that was long...
@@carterajones Tell me about it! the original delivery date was December 2021, then it changed to September 2022, then February 2022, then april and now june.. but it will be all worth it if I can get the new battery haha
It sucks when Tesla does not allow a buyer to choose between MY with the 4680 battery and the old one, especially the old one is priced the same as the better 4680 MY.
If you do over 264 miles a day, the range might be a problem, unless you go to a supercharger, of which there are many. If I charged at home to 80% then used my car for a day, there would still be over 70% when I come to plug in at the end of the day. This method of charging is what's recommended for almost EVs regardless of brand.
I recently saw a video that stated 4680’s were to be delivered late Q2 sometime. They are supposed to shutdown the factory for 3 weeks for the changeover of batteries. Unlikely you’ll be getting the new battery.
I just bought a used 2017 model x from a private party. It looks like some of the updates aren't there even though the car says it's up to date. I don't have 2020.12.6 which shows traffic lights and stop signs. I'm also missing Solitaire in the games area. Do you know how I gan get these updates?
Any way to tell what version we are going to get for someone up north? (Toronto, Canada)? Right now I think all of them ship from fremont as well but I really want the new model, I just don't know if I should put my order in now or wait until they officially announce the changes, just afraid that the announcement will also come with a price hike.
Supposedly the first VIN was assigned with the new battery so I think if you are wanting LW then with the long lead time you will most likely get the updated version. If you want performance it’s still a bit of a gamble. I would also be weary of a price hike with the new battery so that’s why I decided to take the chance
At first I thought you had gotten your VIN for delivery. Still, you're awfully close. So that's good. Wheel styles really is a challenge. It's a trade off on wind resistance, style, and ride. I ordered my MYLR with standard 19" Gemini for ride and resistance. But I got the Rimetrix wheel covers which look great and achieve the same mileage and let me get the ride of a 19" wheel.. So that's good.
I wish! Hopefully soon. And I totally agree. I bet the Rimetrix wheel covers look great! I heard the MYP wheels are a bit bumpy but we will see I guess.
Sadly, I don’t think the 4680 mY will have greater range because they won’t be able to sell the Fremont built mY. Once Austin is running smoothly, Tesla should increase range of mY using 4680 and offer a lower priced, lower range mY built in Fremont with old battery. The lower priced model would compete better with iD4, Mache, Polstar, etc.
@@carterajones As you know, Tesla can sell all the mY's it can make so there's little incentive to make any marketing changes. However, the competition is growing and nipping away from Tesla's market share. Soon there will be competitors from Japan, China, Korea, and more from the big 3 nipping away at Tesla. A good example is the Kia EV6 which a fine EV for many people.
Crossing my fingers my Model Y will have the new 4680 battery! Do you think it'll have it?

@@louisrodriques9323 that was several weeks ago, and odds are they are scaling up more production each week.

30%? I don’t think so pretty sure it was like 12-17%
I've heard many different figures, but I'd be surprised if the range increases even that much.
