Funny, the reason I searched this was because I just saw that episode. :P
Jaqueline, a hambone is what former slaves were passing around from one cooking pot to another in order to spice their soup. Slaves were forbidden to play their African instruments so they took to body percussion. The "hambone, hambone, where have you been ?- "All around the world and back again." refers to the hambone being passed around, because the slaveowners did not give the slaves the good meat but basically the bone or the leftovers that were considered to be gross by the white folks.

as of may 2010, samuel has been approached by a british tv company. they wish travel to north carolina soon to do an interview with him. perhaps i can get a copy of the interview and put it up on youtube. i hear that he is still as good as when i shot the video around 1994. stay tuned! thanks, carl

i like taking short videos with my old point and shoot canon a640. it has been everywhere with me for many years and never any problems! this video was done with a vhs camcorder (on my shoulder!) back in the early 1990's.

Hambone, Cakewalk...lots of things in history...and Jazz....so much of what (unfortunately garbage) has roots in jazz and hambone (aka Step Dance) comes from history...READ PEOPLE.
